Waxed canvas ski coat

waxed canvas is the old school alternative to waterproof/breathable laminates. It works alright, but is very heavy and doesn't keep out water for as long as normal waterproof layers and requires more maintenance.

In this day and age you can get other materials which do an equal job of keeping water out, while improving in all the areas which waxed canvas falls short, such as maintenance and bulk.

do you have a waxed canvas jacket that you want to wear skiing from time to time? sure, go for it, its not like half this site doesn't wear hooides and other ramdom crap up on the mountain from time to time.

do you want to buy a waxed canvas jacket to be your go to ski gear? Thats probably not the best idea, some other technical fabric will treat you well.

I wear an LL Bean DWR coated cotton coat as my go to now for skiing. It's comfy, durable, water resistant enough, and looks good. I've skied in it in pow and never got wet, even after a double eject.

I was thinking of making one for the fuck of it. So I guess that's way I'll be doing in my free time.
