if i wanted to slalom ski is it easier to start in the water with one, or do the two ski start and then kick one off..?

ita much much easier to drop a ski. starting on one is totally different, and much harder, than on 2. you should be able to manage dropping a ski, after some practice its really not hard at all, try getting up on one after you know you can stay up once you get up

well...i've tried the ski dropping...its not that hard for me.

its just that once my foot's out of it, i cant get both feet balanced on the ski. the bare foot has to like drag in the water so as to stay standing... so if i'm this far would it be easier to just keep trying to get my foot back there or should i go for the one ski start....?

and is starting with one ski anything like wakeboarding..?

i've done it my whole life and found its easier if you are smaller and relatively athletic to just get up on one because you pop right up.

dropping one can be sketchy cuz alot of times you miss the foot hole and your kind of screwed, but this is how most people learn, "to get the feel for it" so to speak

i'd drop it once or twice to get the feel and then just try gettin up on one.

oh...........but just wakeboard...it's alot more fun

agreed.

...until one of the binding things just kind of falls off and all you have is a pair of ancient waterskis...

its better to just start with one ski because you actually get the feel of skiing with one ski and it is not that hard unless you aren't semi-strong and are willing to hold on

its not but the driver will hafta speed up and you will lean back a lot more

learning to start with one sucks

the boat hasta rip you outa the water

i recomend gloves if you not used to sking and the wear it can have on your hands

what you probably need to do is bend your ski leg knee more. Shift all your weight to that side before dropping the ski and then you won't need to rely on the other leg to balance. Keep your head up and feel for that toe slip. When you find it slide your foot in and redistribute your weight evenly over both feet.

Getting up on a slalom ski is not too much like wakeboarding. In wakeboarding you have such a large, bouyant board that its easy to just pop right up on top of the water. When getting up on a slalom ski you need to be as small as possible. THat is keep your knees right up into your chest and let the boat do all the work. Also i find it easier to put my back foot in while starting, (well actually i have to becacuse i ride a double boot.) if you're having trouble finding the back slip when you drop you'll probably want to start with two feet in as well.

Good luck!

easier to drop one, when you get up on one what you want to do is keep your back foot out. i use a double boot slalom so you have to get up with both feet in and that's a lot harder but to start, get up on 2 with the binding really loose on your weak foot and just step out of it when you're up and then ride around on 1 ski, you'll get the hang of it in no time. just remember, arms straight, knees bent, butt in, back straight

Try to find a someone with a set of beginner skis, its 2 skis and they are tied together so you can get up easier and be more stable if you have no clue what your doing. if you cant find any of those just work on getting up on two first and if you start to feel confident eventually drop one. Its wierd kicking the ski off your foot but it works. Hell, try getting up on one first, it takes some getting used to but maybe you'll get it, you'll have to get it eventually anyways cant hurt.

I think it's way easier to start on 2 skis you get balanced way better and shit. Then when you drop your ski just let your foot hang out for awhile don't rush it in to the back cover. Starting on one ski is way harder to balance yourself plus it's way harder physically.

sounds goood... i've pretty much heard most of that. i think whats getting me is the weight distributing after the ski is off. like, all my weights on the bare foot and the other one on the ski is just kinna hangin out and i start like spazzing and like going into like a squat..?? its pretty attractive...

i think the keeping my back straight and the leg with the ski bent will help a lot..

thanks

and...whats a wakeskate [or a wakeski..?]

i learned getting up on one. and i personally think its way less of a hassle than dropping a ski and not much more difficult. its a pain to search for a ski after you drop it after you have a long run all over the lake

just remember where you kicked it off or put some neon spray paint on the top and bottom of the ski.... i dont usually have that much trouble..

You are all going about this training in the most difficult of ways. To learn to one foot easy follow these steps.

Step 1: Its all about the dock-start. Sit on the edge of the dock, get your feet set, and hit it. You are instantly up giving the you the feeling of being up instantly.

Step 2: After getting used to skiing one footy, slowly remove your rear foot and ski as if you have just dropped a second ski. Then return your rear foot to the single ski.

Step 3: Now that you know what it feels like to ski on one foot, start in the water and after the boat starts pulling you, try to return to the possition you learned in step one while keeping your ski straight as the boat takes off.

Step 4: Shoot yourself for becoming a waterskier.

i barefoot, one of the sickest things i've ever done by far, such a rush and it just feels like you're walking on water, amazing feeling and super fun except if you don't keep your toes up and your ankles locked you fall so fucking hard because you're going 40 mph

well.

my boat is too big for the 'launch ramp' [if you could even call it that..] for the only lake around here with a dock-start-worthy dock. we pull each other around in this little beach/bay/rec area in the ocean. so 'difficult' is kinda my only option. and that right there kind of kills the rest of your advice..but thanks anyways...

my dad slalom skis and he says that it is alot easier to drop a ski when your first learning. this is because once u no how to ski slalom its easier to learn how to get up with just one ski. not that you couldent start with one, but its alot more to learn all at once

just wakeboard

i drop and star on one, depends on my mood

anyone know anything about freesyle water skis?

i saw some in a shop the other day and was like ZOMG cuz the only way i can catch air is on a wakeboard, but thatd be sick

do they work?

The hard part about dropping a ski is keeping your balance wheil dropping and the hard part abuot starting with one ski is keeping balance wheil getting up. So solve both prblms and sit on the dock with one ski and get up with the boat pulling you from there.

i started drop ski first got it first time

then trying to get up on one ski took me 2-3 trys

.capn. i doubt you slalom much

then buy a new one, cuz waterskiing......well its waterskiing. besides why water ski when you can WAKESKI SOOOOOO SUPER GNAR BAR SHREDTASTIC!

What you need to do is ride on two skis, and while cruising with those two on lift up, NOT drop, and balance on ski. Try to balance on just your right ski while picking up your left, then try balancing on just your left and pick up your right. Once you know what foot you feel more comfortable with balancing, you now know what foot to have in front.

Now that you have your front foot figuired out, it's time to drop a ski! Dropping is a ton easier than getting up on one because it doesn't take any extra strength or harder balancing skills. Drop your non dominant foot's ski and don't even worry about putting your foot into the holder of the other ski. Just relax and get a feel for the one ski balance. Once you have that down, move your bare foot next to your foot that is in the boot. Then when it is next to it, slowly move it back until you find the holder with your toes. Slip it in, ski away like a champ.

That's my best advice I can offer you, and it has worked with tons of my friends when they come up to my cabin.

not exactly.... cuz i think if there was more to do on waterskis it would be alot more fun... like you cant really do much other that carve on waterskis, unlike skiing. (and yeah, shure there are wake skis out there but at this point in time there not all that available to buy) according to ur stereotype if i was a bandwagon fan wouldent i be snowboarding and not skiing

i found it easier to drop one ski rather than start with one ski. Basically what works for me is just keep looking forward and slowly shift your weight on the single ski and slide out of the other. This should be done as your boat drives by your dock as then you dont have to go searching far for the ski.

that wasn't directed at you specifically...i just see a lot of people who are all "awwww jea I love wakeboarding blah blah blah" or "Yeah, I can wakeboard blah blah" and then you see them ridin' and they can't even throw down a tantrum, let alone a ralie, sbend, whirlybird, etc. it's just become the "cool" thing to do kind of like what has happened with snowboarding in the past 5 years or so...

there are alot of things you can do on skis. freestyle jumping has been around for a long time and is craaaazy fun. not to mention all of the stuff you can do barefooting (I know not on skis but you have to get there first)
