Waterskiing like surfers.

Just wait a few more years until someone does it and this thread will be bumped up so that everyone can look at it and be like, "wtf? hahaha, we were so stupid back then!"

You could get towed into a big wave on water skis and ride it, but it would be very difficult and you wouldn't have much control. When you are surfing you have one foot closer to the nose of the board and one closer to the tail. This enables you to shift your weight forward and backwards on the board. If you have ever surfed you will know that it is pretty important to be able to do this.

With water skis you wouldn't be able to shift your weight forward and backwards as much, while still keeping your balance.

So.... I'm sure you could do it, but I don't think it would work that great.

Kelly Slater gets tow assisted into a wave on water skis in Taj Burrow's Fair Bits. He also rides a guitar case, a table, a door, and a surf scooter. Slater had better luck riding a door then water skis. You just cant position yourself properly.

That was a hilarious video, the coffee table at the end did it for me. awesome And that door bouncing along, just priceless.

I still think this could totally be done on skis though, it would just take large skis and someone with balls big enough to try it on one of those large waves like in that first vid posted. The whole reason they tow in to big waves is that they are going too fast to paddle into, faster is better for standing on waterskis, slater(or whoever) in your video tried waterskis on a small wave(slow). Plus I don't know anything about him but that guy who tried it there has probably been surfing his whole life and isn't that good on waterskis.

And for all those saying leave surfing in the sea and skiing in the mountains, how bout a little progression between sports, what the hell is snowboarding anyway, or even skating. It's just somebody who loved their sport enough to try it in a different situation.
