Waterskiing like surfers.

why is it that only surfers can ride ocean waves? isn't there a way to ski a wave? well i think that would be a new sport idea.

what if someone got water skis on, got a jet ski, and got towed into a wave, let go of the rope and shred like a surfer.

is it possible? has it been done? and what do you think about ski surfing?

well it'd be way to hard to get yourself up onto skis while trying to ride a wave, whereas you just jump onto the surfboard. i dont know about the tow in thing, that might work but you'd have to have a pefect beach for it, not too choppy

uhhhhh, surfing is so cool as it is why would someone do something lame like skiing? You won't be able to do trick, slide rails, etc. Just get a surf board and rip it.

Ummmm, if your two skis together were about the size of a surfboard it should for sure be buoyant enought..... But I don't think you would be able to shift your weight to go faster or slow down or anything like you do on a surf board. Being able to move your feet is key on a surfboard.

? up and down the board? interesting style, unless your talking about a longboard. a couple weeks ago here in malibu some guy had really long waterskis...i think he built them. and he was skiing all around the outside the swells-they were about 6 feet. the dude towed into one of the sets and was able to stand on the wave and surf it for about 10 seconds, and then he lost his balance. so yes, it is possible, with big enough waves and a boat

the skis would have to be huge. and you would look really dumb doin it, think waterskiing vs. wakeboarding

This would be cool, I have also had this thought b4, also I've wondered with fatter skis if you could take waterskiing toward the heights of wakeboarding. I've never even seen waterski tricks over a wake except for lame one footed tricks. I have e mailed waterski companies and custom shops with both ideas and most said they would probably work. When i found out the prices of designing a test model for these ideas it changed my mind. Bottom line is i think it would be badass to see a waterskier tow into a big wave maybe a little butter 180 and carve just 1 line switch down the face, even if he ate shit afterward.

I'm sure it would be possible but it would be a pain in the ass. Certainly no as easy as paddling out on a surfboard.

you wouldnt be able to use regular water skis cus waterskiis sink when your on them without a boat, if you made a pair of surfboard waterskis they might work but could also be really unstable

i no ur talkin bout skiin but parks bonifay and some other guy got towed in on wakeboards and managed to surf, and thats not that much surface area

People have kinda done this before, it was called hangin 10. To ride a wake you need a large platform. and the only way this is going to work is with a board, i.e. a surf board.

There is wake surfinng, which is surfing behind a boat, then there is trick skiing, which pretty much died in the 80s/90s. Recently a local shop got a pair of new-generation trick skiis in that were a little longer and had wakeboard-like bindings on them. I figure just stick with wakeboarding though, The reason skiing is so cool, is cause you can get so much extra time in the air, and you are not constricted by a rope. wakeboarding works because you can pull yourself on a rope, and attempt to make it steezy. I just went wakeboarding today. It was fun, but I cant imagine twisting and turning behind a rope on skiis. it doesnt even seem like it would be that fun, as landing on water with two skiis would be extremely difficult.

Exactly. That to me seems like intentionally skiing in a big ass avalanche. One slip up and he's toast.

Yo I know people that do it in Maryland. But they get towed down the beach by an ATV and they just carve the waves on short trick waterskis. Never actually seen it done but it sounds dope.

Some of the first kiteboarders used water skis, and in kiteboarding one can often find oneself riding a wave...so that would be your best bet without jetski.
