Ive been checking out some outerware cause I need some new gear, and was wondering what u guys thought would be best, obviously the higher waterproofness the more the clothing item will be... but is there a huge difference in a 10,000mm compared to a 5,000? I need some new pants first, cause my shit is bustin out of the waist.. any suggestions?

anything over 8,000mm is technically considered 'waterproof' for outerwear, anything less is genrerally considered to be water-resistant. if you go for the 10,000mm, you will probably never be wet as long as it's breathable and you layer properly. it's probably worth it.

alright cool.. thanks

As a rule I wouldn't trust anything under 10,000 if you're gonna be on the hill all day. I have a 30,000, by that point you have no worries whatsoever. I suggest you go all the way, get the best, most comfortable jacket you can find. It's like boots, it's not so much aperformance issue as it is just being able to enjoy yourself more on the mountain. Harder to have fun skiing if you're soaked.

If you ride anywhere in the nothern hemisphere waterproof-ness is not as much a factor as if you were riding down here in Aus. My advice is stop whinging, cause the snow you get is dry and fluffy and falls by the truck load

west coast snow is pretty damn wet as well. my jacket is 30000mm and pants are 15000mm (i think), never had a problem with the jacket, and very rarely with the pants. id recommend going over 10000mm though, just to be safe.

I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day

ya dood.... minimum 10,000.... i got bonfire shiz thats 10,000 and its quite good and not too bad $250 for pants

instead of 5000 this 20000. just buy gore-tex, waterproof to the max.

something that hasn't been mentioned but you should consider... generally the more waterproof something is, the less breathable it is. so you want to get something that will keep you dry, but not overkill... cause if you can get just as wet from perspiration as from snow.
