Water Skiing as Off-Season Practice

I have never water-skied before: I have inner-tubed and gone wake boarding, but that is the extent of my "boat sport" experience. But, I have the chance to go out on a wake boat a bunch with a friend this summer.

So my question is: will water skiing help my snow ski technique? Do the skills and muscle groups transfer over? Anything I should do differently or watch out for? Anything that can create bad ski habits that I shouldn't do? Any other advice?

I'd imagine it will help my general technique, and maybe with tricks/jibbing/butters, but am completely in the dark.

Thanks in advanced everyone!

In a word... no. It’s very different. But, I’d encourage you to go out and do it and have fun. Enjoy the summer. Don’t spend it worrying about your ski technique.

id go with a no, although it does build up your legs

wakeboarding is a way better time imo

Noted! Definitely gonna have fun regardless: will be riding the boat and skiing/tubing/wakeboarding either way. Was just curious how well it well help with my muscles and technique for next winter

The general technique on water skis is pretty different, you're pushing your feet down to turn (if you have both skis on) instead of turning them over on edge like you do on snow skis. With that being said, it's still really fun and does fulfill the two plank fix temporarily during the summer

It’ll definitely keep your legs in shape, and it’s way fun regardless. Might help with the rhythm of making powder turns but not a strong connection

HA

I wish my parents had a cottage

Or a boat

Or anything cool for that matter

Yeah, your parents really dropped the ball. They thought that if they had a son they would finally have something cool but you came up way short on that one.

water skiing is a great way to hone your urban skiing winch tow in abilities

Honestly used to do this with a bunch of neighborhood kids/teenagers back when my parents lived in the Truckee area and I lived with them.

On a good snow day you could just have your older brother whipping you around the neighborhood in his truck, as you're holding on for dear life, smashing into snow banks.

good times.....
