My friends and I are putting together a water ramp this summer. We have the perfect place (my friends grandmas lives on lake superior and has a 40+ foot dock and the water is about 6 feet deep, and she said we could put it there) We have a plan, but we need to know what works the best to slide on? We were thinkin carpet and soap? or does anyone know anything about the stuff they use on professional water ramps? I think its called andendex or somethin like that. Any ideas would be great. thanks

that sounds rad..i dont have any tips for you...but good luck,,,

ok i also have a similar question. how do you swim after you land? I want to drop a 45 foot cliff into the st croix river this summer with skis and get some pics to send into freeze for stunt of the month. I was thinking just leave your boots unbuckled and ditch em after you hit the water. anybody know how they swim afterwards?

water ramps have those circle things that they got on the loading area of lifts at the ski hills. they just put those on and have a water spraying system that keeps them wet so you can slide on them. astroturf with soap and water on it works alright (we made a summer rail thing with it last year)

they have leashes on the skis and they release on impact... than you swim to the shore (with a lifejacket on)

when you swim out you can just put your feet behind you, so your tails are kinda touching your back. but that was in a pool in park city, and your in a moving river soooo, not sure if that'll work.

bunch of f**kin' savages in this town

i have no idea what to do, but i just think that having a personal water ramp would be the sweetest thing ever. good luck and if it works, send in some pics.

Wet pool liner works good for sliding down, it's a lot faster then carpet with soap and you don't have to worry about getting a whole bunch of soap in the lake.

As for swimming away just ware a lifejacket and swim with your arms.

and for the guy thinking of dropping 45' into water on skis, that’s going to hurt! Landing in water isn't like landing in powder, powder doesn't have any surface tension like water does so when you hit that water with you skis on its going to be like landing a 45' cliff on flat hard packed snow.

Your skis will probably break and you might too, thats why they have bubble machines at water ramp places.

45ft. You definately need to put bubbles in the landing or you can die. No joke. I know one fool who broke his back on a regular diving board. If the water is flat and calm it's like landing on cemenet. Put bubbles in the landing, some how?

Yeah a water ramp would be sweet, but wear a life jacket. I also reccomend picking up so old equitment at a sportmart or something. You can a whole (boots, bindings and skis) of NEW 8 year old models for like 40 bucks.

Hate to be a party pooper... but dii read that wrong? The water is 6 FEET deep?

If so... be careful due, that is reall shallow and you could get messed up in watter that shallow, life jacket or not.

It's probably about 6 and a 1/2 feet deep, that should be good? For the bubble thing I dont think we could do anything about that, but it shouldn't be that bad? I plan to wear full clothing, like 2 shirts a sweatshirt and a life jacket (plus helmet cuz landing on your head in water hurts).

T-lo

Eh, i don't know much aout water ramps, but still seem sorta shallow. Just check around an see what the normal depth of ramps is to play it safe. And good luck with it all.

I have a water ramp close to my house so i know what im talking about:

1. Wear swimsuit, landing on your hip hurts more than powder.

2. helmet and lifejacket.

3. tie a rope on to your boots and tie it to your skiis, so they don`t fall of.

4. It takes time and much money to build, so you should start soon.

Good luck.

Hey T-Lo What state touching Superior is she on? I'm on Lake Michigan in Escanaba (upper peninsula), and maybe I could check it out or give you a hand with it if its nearby. If the stupid lake levels weren't so low here (they're down like 2 ft) I might try this myself.

Also, is the landing sand or rock, and if its sand is it deep sand or just covering some rocks? Because with 6 ft, you'll be smacking your tips into the ground sometimes, as well as yourself, and sand is much more forgiving.

Another thing, anyone think you could build a water ramp using a playground slide with a lip on the end? You could just find an old rusty playground slide, put it on the dock, and build a lip at the end of it. Not much width for your feet, but probably cheap and easy.

James

jreinhart555, We're in Duluth Minnesota, right on the eastern tip of Lake Superior. We also thought about the slide idea, but I don't know if it would work. If we build it, and it's fun You could sure come out for a day if you wanted to drive that far. I'll tell you how it turns out.

6 ft with bubbles is also a death trap.

if you get more than 3 feet of air off the ramp, youre going to break your skis or your legs. 6 feet is not deep. find somewhere deeper.

and for the guys skiing off that cliff, maybe drive a few boats right where youre landing just before you go to make some waves and shit, or if you know people who scuba dive, get some of those diving air tanks, and get them to hold them far underneath the water, and open them so the air comes up and breaks it up. might work. probably not.

6 feet is plenty deep unless you going to be landing straight on your head. Most of the time when you hit the water your head doesn't even go under and even if you did make it to the bottom wearing skis and a lifejacket your going to be going so slow that it won't hurt at all.

Yeahh a lot of times when you stick your trick your head doesn't get wet. It is rare to go any deeper than your whole body under. Bubbles make you sink more so without bubbles you could probably be alright in 6 ft. Also, no bubbles will hurt like a bitch, but its not gonna snap your shit. We've all seen someone hit the double at PC and not get bubbles, they survive.

to swim out just bend your knees and do a backscratcher and use your arms to swim out. but 6 feet isnt deep enough. but good luck man

its gonna hurt hittin without bubbles

whats up now bitch

dont jump that 45ft...youll die seriously. your skis will snap in half on impact then they will point vertical and one will go right through your neck into yoru head

if you wear a life jacket 6.5 should be deep enough, just dont make the jump huge

There's a 65 ft booter. get your coat

6 feet is a little shallow. but i think i would use astroturf for your inrun. but make sure its wet.

first off, there is no freeze stunt of the month anymore and also dropping 45 into bubbleless water will hurt ten times more than you think

i would like to point out that freeze magazine doesn't exist anymore

1st) 6 ft not enough unless its a real small jump

2nd) don't need bubbles

3) helmet & lifejacket for sure

4) jack yr bindings up to max din, no rope or

straps needed.

5) call ambulance now cause with only 6 ft yr gonna need one

Stress will get you nowhere,

oh to swim yr bend yr knees up close to yr and crawl with yr arms, but life jacket is 110% needed or else you will sink and end up as fish food

Stress will get you nowhere,

true yr head usually doesn't go under when no bubbles, but if you land sideways or upside down it will, If u are 6' tall well do the math,

you ski wont break, they break somtimes but thats like from falling 30 ft + and they are usually

wood crappy ones, I use my 1080 and they are still holding up after 20 sessions & I still ski with them also in the spring. u will wreck your boots more than yr ski's

Stress will get you nowhere,

dude 6 ft deep ur gonna die even if its 6 and 1/2 ur still gonna get hurt badly

as far as the ramp surface goes, carpet and soap won't work unless u have a really long inrun or if u r only planing on catching a few feet of air....the stuff real ramps are made out of is really expensive, but if u are looking to get more than a few feet of air, thats wut u will need...also 6 feet of water should be deep enough if u wear a life vest..just make sure there aren't any large rocks at the bottom...i think the water at placids ramps is like 8 feet deep, but they have bubbles to push u up

yo tyson im coming out if this works out good ill help you guys if you need help just haller at me

You're a real skier if your ski gear is worth more than your car.

the shit that good ramp places use is called snowflex... but it is so ridiculously expensive. then there is also this stuff, that i dont know the exact name for it, but its nick name is meany, i think its less... then lastly that green astroturf and water will work... but dude, falling 40 feet onto water with n o bubbles is just retarted and will hurt...
