Watch you music downloads - companies havent started the battle

Holy wow.

But yeah, I've always liekd the iTunes store too. Cause when you think about it, only 9.99 for a cd which would normally cost 15-20 bucks.

yea you can...my family got a letter from NBC. my brother got caught downloading a Seinfeld torrent, hahahah. I don't think they are suing us though, they just sent a warning letter.

for all you at university, just use Ruckus!

well im only in 9th grade so dont gotta owrry bout the univerity collage thing, i use itunes store anyway

fuck that, how do they choose which people to go after? i would be so pissed if i was that guy who only downloaded 100 songs and had to pay up

wow that is nutty...i download all my tv's shows because i dont have a decent tv to watch em on...fack

By saying downloading music is illegal is saying that letting a friend borrow your cd is illegal. They shouldn't be sueing the students, but the creators of the p2p programs...

thats true, but i think i might start buying some music from the more underground artists i listen to so they make more good stuff to listen to.

Well there is nothing wrong with letting a friend borrow your CD because once you pay for that item it is yours and you can do what you want to with it.

Yea...well I've shared about a million CD's with my cyber friends. Still legal? They're my real friends! I mean seriously they are! ...I think anal penetration by the record company would ensue.

thats what happens when you share, back in the day i got a letter from some place for downloading billy madison and it was just a warning they were gonna try to sue me 5000 dollars i guess, go fuck themselfs

The problem is that you will never be able to shut down mp3 trading. Ever. People, especially students, will always find a way around the rules and regulations, no matter what.

yeah i did a paper on this last year. if you physically share it, then it's okay, but when you don't physicallyy share (ie internet) then it's illegal. kind of a double standard.

Word, I buy a lot of my "underground" music because I'm buying it directly from the artists (as in... I put my money into their paypal accounts and they ship them to me) instead of corporations.

interesting articule

it is legal to lend a cd to your friend, but it is illegal for them to copy that CD in any way. When you 'share ' files on p2p or torrents you are not letting someone borrow the file, you are duplicating the file - thus it is illegal.

and for all the dudes at uni.. share your music folder so other people can get music they like. it would be hard for you to get into any trouble because you can just say that you didnt know anyone was accessing your computer and copying music from it

this thread is being monitored by the FBI, your all fucked. gus kiddin ya.

But yeah that sucks, but i wonder how that one record company can sue that girl for all of her songs, cause I bet a majority of the songs she has isnt theirs

yea all my friends in college say they're are HUGE ass fines, i think the most is in Dusquence its like 1k a song or something totally rediculous

if you don't share your music can you still get caught?

what about albumbase and rapidshare and stuff?

and i think this is bullshit its like sharing a cd with your friends but on a larger scale

if you download 100,000 songs, and you a minor, there is no way they are going to conivce a jury that you should pay 700,000 bucks.

it would be pretty hard to get a jury of peers to convict someone of illegal music downloading.

My guess is that with some exceptions (see below) a pissed of company is more likely (and would be better served) to go straight to the source of the problem, so sites like bittorrent would get hit before the people would. Thats more of less a guess based on some dumb logic, I have no factual base for that statement, I just hope to god I dont get caught.

As long as you don't keep them in a shared music folder they cant really prove whether you downloaded it or copied it from a purchased cd. I have a ton of songs on my computer that I have copied from cds I bought.
