I have a dilemma.

Japan: My dad and I were planing on going to japan for 9 days or so to visit my aunt and cousin who moved to japan 2 years back and go skiing on Hokkaido for 5 days or so, there is some conflict with my aunt and work so we might not see her that much and my dad doesn't sound too sure about the trip right now. If i bother him enough i could get to japan.

Whistler: I told my mom about whistler's epic november and how i would rather go to whistler than spend my semester in france(there was a lot of problems with this). My mom thought about what i said and she said she would take me to whistler for a week and take a friend (friend would pay airfare and tickets of course).

The Problem: I REALLY want to go to both whistler and japan, for different though. I want to experience the culture of japan and also ski. I really want to ski whistler, REALLY badly. The problem is that the time frame for both events are durring president's week (the olympics). It would be sick to be at whistler during the fucking olympics. That would be so sick, but so would japan just less skiing. I need some help here.

P.S. Never really skiied anywhere other than NY or VT, i went to vail once but i couldn't do shit, the family i was with only did groomers and were uber gapers

If you want to get any real skiing in I wouldn't bother going to Whis during the olympics. Parts of the mountain will be closed off and the lines will most likely be retarded huge. Now if you want to party, that's a different story.

do you have a place to stay in Whistler during the Olympics? If not, you'll be going to Japan hotels, hostels, condos, houses have been booked up in whistler for a long time and I doubt you'll be able to find a place with such shot notice (atleast not for a reasonable price.) That being said I think the experience of traveling to Japan would be greater than you would get in Whistler during the Olympics. I live in Vancouver and Im going to embrace the Olympics and not bitch and moan about them like everyone else, but its going to be very chaotic those two weeks,

oh shit, i was going to go to Hokkaido with my 19 year old cousin and she tore her lcl. Think about it though, most people will attend the events and lines will be shorter. Booking flights and getting a hotel will be expensive though

Japan without a doubt. I got to go there last year and it was the sickest trip of my life and I've been to ski areas all over the west including Whistler. Don't get me wrong Whistler is sick, but you won't really be able to experience it during the Olympics. Japan is such a sick country and skiing Hokkaido would be absolutely amazing. Go to Japan dude, such a sick opportunity.

Good luck "watching" the olympics in person, they do lotteries even for standing area tickets. Plus, every hotel, hostel and condo is probably booked for that time period. So, go to japan.

What do you really like to watch in the olympics? I admit I like moguls and curling but most of the events I just don't care to watch.

Japan sounds way sicker, you will probably be watching the olympics in the morning or something before skiing and then you will get to ski japan and experience its culture. Maybe you will find a pokemon out there.

Go to Japan, Don't be stupid.

Japan is amazing, you'll really enjoy it there, even if you don't get to ski. You can ski in Hakuba if you're staying on Honshu instead of going all the way to Hokkaido. The snow isn't as good, but it's steeper and almost as good. You'll have an amazing time. Go to Japan. Drink Sapporo, eat Yoshinoya, get your mind blown.

The lines will still be massive. Bottom half of Whistler is closed due to Olympics. Good luck finding a hotel. If you do good luck getting to whistler from squamish or vancouver.

IMO go to Japan. 4 days of skiing in japan beats 1 run in a 8 hour day on whistler

alright i had dinner with my dad and we are going to japan and my mom still wants me to go to whistler, she is thinking about sending me and my brother out on Christmas night, i am SO FUCKING STOKED. I am deffinetly stoked more about japan though. I haven't been to asia yet, i am stoked on that for sure.

Now were talking bud you get to ski one of the best places on earth as a christmas present. Hit me up when u get here and ill show u around the mountain

Go to Japan and France are you kidding???

Don't miss those amazing opputunities

Whistler is gonna be a fucking zoo you will have so much more fun skiing pow in japan

I wouldn't be so quick to say that.

Whistler will be almost 100% open during the Olympics. I expect lines on-mountain actually would be less than what would be expected on a typical holiday weekend. Sure, Creekside Gondy will be closed and the Peak 2 Peak will be crowded, but aside from that, overall I think Whistler will probably be less crowded. Just stay on Blackcomb (which is oftentimes a given anyway) and you'll be good.

Prices would be outrageous though.

I should add that I'm not saying "go to Whistler." Personally I think Japan would be an amazing cultural experience and sick skiing experience. Definitely go to Japan.

Sorry for the double post.

here try this.

ski with a bunch of chill forginers and experience new culture way far from what your used to. or ski with half a billion gapers. id take japan if i were you
