Watch Picture This then tell me you stil think Idea was cool

Definitely like i love the idea that Think Thank goes for in creativity, but it just got over the top after awhile.
Like it got boring in my mind cuz it was just the same wierd things over and over and after watching a Think Thank movie three years in a row i couldnt get around to buy it. I think Patchwork Patterns was better.
Plus totally completely 100% different film then Picture This.
Once again has anyone seen We're People Too!? Better then Picture This, cuz it was just over done.

Snowmobiles we already owned?  I'm still paying for the sled that I got in February. 

Travel expenses = very cheap.  Alaska alone cost me 1300 in fuel.  Multiply that by 4, and add two plane tickets on top of it.  Not to mention numerous trips between Utah and the PNW.  And food is free....naturally.

Ask Iberg if he owns a 16mm camera...you just assume he does.  But don't bother asking about camera repairs, because nothing EVER goes wrong.  Yeah......

A heli trip for 4 people would consume most of your 20K, if not all of it.

Iberg, Weigand and Schwags all needed to be paid for their work.  I mean, they could film without pay, but then how would they pay bills without a real job, let alone eat?

Music costs money too.  Chris got paid to produce music, and Cali got paid to do vocals...

Sure Pollard did most of the editing, but who is Shane Nelson anyway?  Just some guy that offers his time and experience with video editing for free....not quite.

And lastly, how do you know what I do in the summer?  Sure I skied until mid August, but since then I've been building a house.  I guess construction isn't a job compared to say, customer services?

Oh, and you may know as much about filming as I do, for I never said you didn't.  I'm a skier, not a cinematographer.  You make assumptions, and voice your opinion, when you don't have any actual facts to back it except you didn't like the quality of the film, or just the film in general...that's fine, we don't expect you too....but don't claim you could do what we did unless you plan to actually do so.  Because for 20K I know you can't.

 
Snowboard movies are definitily above ski movies. and I don't see why, I guess they are just more progressive. Picture This, and the last few years of Mack Dawg are amazing. There's also one I forgot the name to, with all the physics equations scribbled into it, that one is sick as well. But ski film producers should really learn from the snowboard movies, we could easily do it in the budget they have. They just use very creative angles, fantastic cameras, some nice stands and good riders, oh and good editors. It's not like skiing doesn't have enough backing behind it to pull it off, of course they do. And it's not locations either, Picture This has soo many creative urban shots, not just rails, there's wall rides, bomb drops, boarding down icy roads, ridiculous transfers on urban features, and just really creative fun ideas. I have watched and enjoyed more snowboard videos, than I have ski.
 
one interesting point i would like to make is this. if someone can make a movie for 2000 dollars that legitimately gets me excited for skiing and showcases some progressive riding and styles that i have not seen before, that's BETTER than someone doing the same thing for 20,000, and MUCH BETTER than someone doing the same thing for 2,000,000. I would like to call that wasting money and resources. I am not against big budget movies at all, but i think it's so awesome how much i love IDEA and how simple it was. just goin out and filming what a year for these guys looks like. It's sorta like how many of the games for SUPER NINTENDO are a lot more fun than the crazy graphics stuff for xbox 360 and whatnot. Better graphics and more complicated games does not directly translate to better gameplay. high level of stoke and enjoyment can come from low budget as well as high budget.
 
no, i think that was the problem with idea. even though the skiing was sick. it felt like they borrowed too much from snowboarding, intentionally or not.
 
i thought the filming and the quality was pretty damn amazing,  id really like to see you shoot with film  and produce anything even close to as good as that.
 
You're entitled to you're opinion thread creator, but Idea is a sick movie. Are you actually a skier, do you even like skiing? Picture This is dope, but that's like saying try an apple, and tell me you still like oranges. Um yeah I like both, but don't compare them. In my opinion, I hope you're hands get chewed off by wolverines while you're sleeping so you can't type anymore.
 
one word BUDGET. Eric Iberg probably had to sell his snowmobile and live in his basement to pay for CAlI P's music. Snowboarding has a lot more money in it...

Shit i need to save up a little more then i can buy idea that movie changed my point of view and its one of the few movies that really gets me stoked for skiing like there were so many sick movies this season realtime, believe, enjoy, Etc. but non of them really got me stoked to ski like idea did and im feeling kind of unstoked right now being there is a lack of snow

Idea definitely did not look like it could have been made by a junior high student. No way. Maybe the logo of the movie, but that's about it. The parts I've seen have been professional. but I have yet to see the entire thing, so I guess I can't judge. It's nothing like Mack Dawg at all, since he has a ton of cash to spend while Iberg and his crew probably didn't have 1/4 that much. So quit your whining and be stoked that skiing has put out a chill, fun movie that has amazing shots in it.
 
pat milbery took me to the hospital, but i think picture this overuses gliding cams and shit i'd rather see 75% still and like 25% fancy.
 
Picture this is disgusting.. however it has high gimmick factor = Oakley RED camera.

I could shoot a hamster swimming in a fishtank and it woud look crazy with that camera.

Mucho respect for Idea holding so much water without the gimmick.
 
Andy says it right. I can't get over the fact that people here are even criticizing Idea. The movie is perfect. Those guys didn't have the best conditions to work with but they made one of the sickest ski movies ever. People assume way to much when it comes to how to produce a movie.
 
do you have any idea on how much it costs to develop 16mm? I really doubt it. and some people like the look of 16mm more then the fake feel of digital.

when was the last time you looked at the price of gas?

or the distance from WA/OR to Alaska?

or the cost of heli skiing?

or the amount of down time that goes into getting a couple days of heli time?

whats a real job?

 
I guess I just expect a lot from movies these days with all the cool shit they can do and I just didn't feel Idea was on par with what is possible.

and i still disagree, the 16 mm is sick and the whole vibe is great along with the best three skiers you could ask for.
 
mac dawgs filming and cinematography is amazing, and as a filmmaker its very inspiring to see, but then from a rider stand point most people hated the fact that it was wayyy over done and not focused on the riding.

also note, just to be in a mac dawg movie, your sponsor needs to shell out 27,000$ and that doesnt even include travel.so figure picture this has 16 athletes in it, 16x27000 is about 430,000 dollars budget, and then more that they recieve for travel expenses. No one in skiing has close to that as far as i know.

and if you like reallly good cinematography, and lots of riding check out isenseven
 
i don't understand why you are comparing the two. why can't you just say that you liked picture this a lot you're just bashing on idea for the sake of contention.
 
i agree, but that one session on the Mt. Hood step-down was so sick. i was left with the impression that given good weather and a bit of luck, the whole film would have been like that. ski movies do seem to be lagging. I thought Level 1 would break away from the pack, but they can't seem to find big enough backcountry features (although i haven't seen Realtime). maybe this year's films were weak because of the storm season, though.
