Watch Picture This then tell me you stil think Idea was cool

When you think about it, skiing has more smaller production companies, whereas in snowboarding there are 4 or 5 really big ones(absinthe, mack dawg, etc). This allows more money to flow to the larger companies, enabling better films. In my opinion Mountain Biking films have the best cinematography of any extreme sport, but since their are a fewer pool of riders and production companies, the companies get more out of the industry and the level of competition is higher.

Alright everybody, just calm down. The way I see it is the film branch of snowboarding & skiing is like the porno branch of having sex. Hey yeah, doing the real thing is pretty swell, but we can't do it when ever we want. Well some of us can, and even then it requires effort, work, & money (nix the first two if it's a prostitute, keep em if it's your girlfriend). So what do you do, you recreate that euphoria you get from the real thing. Only it's not that easy with just your imagination sometimes. Luckily people record the real thing so other people can watch it and help stimulate that associated euphoria. Now people have different preferences, luckily there's not just one type of film you can buy, there's lots of different styles that suit whatever it is that makes you tick. You don't hear people in the porno industry hating on "omg they've done that same ATM scene for like the past three years." They just focus on what ever it is that they like. Let's all take an example from these types of people and be more like them.

idea had great cinematography, yeah picture this had better, but they also have a way bigger budget.  and mac dawg downgraded to hd for some reason, while idea is still shot in 16mm

IDEA wasn't trying to be a normal ski film..thats the thing.

I don't think it was made to be comparable to anything else out there - people either liked it or they didn't

Some of these trendwhores are retarded.

How does expensive HD cameras and stupid branches floating in the picture shot after shot consitute great cinematography? It does not. Optimistic has mindblowingly good cinematography. Picture This looks nice for a trailer, but watch the movie 3 times and you'll see what I mean.

And then IDEA. IDEA looks like someone put a camera inside someones head while dreaming about skiing. It looks and feels like being inside someones dream. How is that not great cinematography. I've never seen as many skiers and snowboarders blown away and left speechless as by the IDEA.

yea picture this, idea, think thank are all fucking sick.

snowboarding has had way more time to be innovative and thats what we are seeing in their movies.

skiing is progressing so fast and will continue too.

I dont know man. It looks like he going to do like a tree tap type thing and gets his ski caught under a branch.(might be wrong their ill have to watch it again)

For the switch cork 3 although its pretty dope, i like colbys way better...

why ns couldn't have started watching snowboard films two or three years ago when they were actually good is beyond me.

well, who else does sw 7's in pow? or 9's in pow? or unnatural cork 5's in pow? or butters off cliffs? I think you are missing a big part of the movie. It's okay not to like the movie, but that criticism was pretty retarded.

Steele Spence, Mike Clarke, Travis Redd, Mark Abma, Chris Biollo, Stefan Thomas.  I think those skiers could easily do all those tricks that were so called "revolutionary".  I dont think im missing the movie dude, i just dont have my head up mahres ass.

i've seen picture this like 5 times and idea about the same. Idea is still good, it doesn't have the same level of filming, but it's still the most progressive movie i've seen

Although "picture this was a pretty" good film, for being a snowboarding movie, IDEA plain ruined it I am sorry to say, Idea is one of my top favorite movies this year probably

This year more than others I've come to the realization that ski movies abso-fucking-lutely blow. So far this year Ive purchased Idea and Yeah Dude for ski movies. Idea was fucking awesome IMO, I got exactly what I expected. People hate that others can land tricks like that in powder, but can they do that shit in 3 feet of fresh pow? I highly doubt it. The soundtrack was great too.

Yeah Dude on the other hand was complete horseshit, I purchased it to contrast Idea, but I honestly couldn't sit through the movie. There was no individuality in the movie, and the soundtrack..... ughh.... I honestly started reading the newspaper to find something more interesting.

The sad thing is, this is how I feel about ski movies in general. (exceptions: 1242, Happy Dayz, Idea, TBC)

Snowboarding is in a completely different ballpark. This year I've got Picture This, We're People Too!, Optimistic and Child Support, all of which blow this years movies out of the water. Picture This has epic cinematography, We're People Too! has awesome up and comers (even though I see them everday riding) throwing down. Optimistic is made by Absinthe what else do I have to say, and Child Support has sick riding and fucking great soundtrack. I get so much more stoked to go skiing when I watch Snowboard movies, Skiing movies make me want to leave me sticks at home and go shred the board.

i totally agree, ski movies are so fucking gay, i honestly dont know what their problem is.  like i bet you could put some random kid on this site in charge of making a ski video and it would be soooo much more entertaning to watch.

I own Idea, and the movie has greatly influenced what I think is cool to see with skiing. In Idea there are no cork 1080's or kangaroo flips, theres just 3 guys going out, skiing, having a blast, and making everything look as good as they can. After Idea, all those huge spins are just spins. They're nothing too special. Idea is the epitomy of style, and that's the beauty of it.

MDP using Panasonic P2's, idea is mostly film; which would you say is more expensive? Sure MDP has some coo gadgets but alot are homemade. MDP has a fleet of some of the worlds best cinematographers in the game, thats why they have the unique shots. Just because you own a dolly doesn't mean you can have dope shots.

for sure stop being such a hater...i am so tired of hearing about how much better snowboard movies are. i have seen a lot of movies including many mack dawg and robot food pics but i gotta say i honestly think what iberg and level 1 do is better than any snowboard movie. if you like snowboarding so much you are more than welcome to switch and get one more hater off ns and onto some snowboarding website

picture this is the only snowboard movie ive ever bought. and im glad i bought it i thought it was fucking sick and it was good to watch something different from ski movies.

Snowboarding movies are always going to be better than skiing movies simply because there is a much larger industry behind snowboarding and they've been doing it about 6 years longer than skiing has. Their budgets for films are so much larger than the average ski film budgets which allows for them to have these ridiculously elaborate shoots and camera angles. Just give ski films some time and it'll catch up.

'I'm not buying a ski movie this year in protest because I don't think any of them are worth it.'

that's probably not gonna do much to help ski movies improve, but good luck with your protest. -picture this is good, and i still think idea is cool. yep, it's my favorite snowsport movie.

idea is still cooler.

it would totally change what idea is, and idea wouldn;t have been as good, but the budget difference between idea and picture this is astronomical.

In my opinion picture this focused more on filming than they did on the snowboarding ... I also thought the movie came off as very contrived and too planned ... and HD does not and never will compare to true 16 mm film, It looks too perfect in a weird way. Snowboarding and skiing are not perfect, the one shot in picture this where they are sitting on their sleds eating while a rider comes up a runway seemed so fake ( that shot just stuck out in general to be fake to me ) While Idea showed all angles of skiing through simplicity and classic cinematography. My two cents

first of all im gona come out here and say i dont like picture this. weird edditing and didnt have an flow. but if you did thats cool and its your oppinion. wat i dont understand tho is why you have to put down idea and other ski movies to build picture this. and why boycot ski movies. support the sport you love and if thats skiing dont bash ski movies jst because you liked picture this better. jst talk about how much ou liked picture this. andy, pep, pollard and iberg made a great film btw

i already made a thread about idea being played. i think picture this is groundbreaking because they visually produced somehting new. they took hd and ran with it. the money that could've been spend on buying and developing 16mm was put towards new equipment and what not (16 mm costs a few hunderd dollars to develop 10 mins worth of film, some companies shoot upwards of 30 hrs of 16mm). while the riding in idea may be groundbreaking for skiing, visually its still the same. MDP created a visual presentation that will forever be copied/envied by every other action sport film company. and the riding did not suffer, it was mindblowing as well.

however, i'm not sure why these two movies are being compared. they are totally different, with completely different goals.

...Warren Miller? I'm pretty sure there has been skiing movies longer than there has been snowboarding movies. Maybe not good ones, but they've been around.

i think the one thing in idea that made me the most turned off by it was that one huge booter they had. the same jump getting hit time after time, with the same angle, with the same tree's in the way, with the same super far back hard to see the skier zoom time after time. it just wrecked the movie for me. i dont know why but for some reason, after that point, i just had a hard time watching it. its a retarded reason but i dunno, worst part of the movei right there. Child Support and picture this pwned idea.

I ski and dont paticualarly like snowboarding but I want to see picture this. It looks so amazing, the cinematography in the teaser was fantastic. Idea was okay, but it got boring to me actually.

i have both.

picture this is eye candy.

idea is (less) eye candy and an original soundtrack and a lot of heart and soul. there is real emotion behind the shots, not just bangers.

real sick movie. ideas still a good movie... it wasnt made to have flashy cinematography etc thats whats great about it. picture this is rediculous though. sick settings.

I don't see how it could have cost much more. You used snowmobiles you

already owned or lift tickets that were comped to access almost all of

the terrain you skied. You filmed with cameras that you already owned

to shoot. So basically you spent money on a couple days in a heli,

travel expenses which is basically just gas, and the cost of developing

the 16 mm film which by the way looked like crap. Editing isn't going

towards your expenses because you don't have real jobs during the

summer so there isn't any opportunity cost associated with the time

spend editing. Lastly you didn't have to pay to use anyone's music

because you got some guy in his basement to do all the music. If I was

one of the films sponsors I'd be wondering where all my money went. I

still think the three of you are great skiers and respect that immensly

I just don't think your film was any good. Oh and judging by the

quality of your FILM I probably know as much about FILMING as you do.

Way to go dude.

- I'd also like to see you make a film, any budget.

- Pep, Eric & Andy made one of the most spoken-about movies is skiing history, doesn't matter if you like it or not, they achieved something, and you didn't.

- The video section of your profile is empty.

Again, if you think it's so easy to make a movie that sends shockwaves through the skiing industry, then why don't you go ahead and show us all. In the meantime, stop being a useless bitch. Someone should paste that Tanner Hall n00b quote cuz it applies to you.
