Washing ski gear?

Ok, please excuse the stupidly n00bish question, BUT... I have a pair of white ski trousers and a yellow jacket, and they're stupidly in need of being washed due to the snowdome's in england not exactly having clean snow, anyway the question is if there's more to it than just shoving them in the machine with a tablet and pressing go? Does anybody actually know?

Cheers!

Tim

Ski trousers eh? I'm not sure about throwing them in a washing machine. I know it will for sure fuck with the waterproofing that they put on in the factory. But you can buy cans of that stuff and redo it yourself and usually it's better. I have only every gotten mine dry cleaned and that worked pretty well, but you have to trust your dry cleaners that they wont screw it up.

yeah, urmm 'pants' means underwear this side of the pond.

I was kinda expecting somebody to say they would lose the waterproofing, might well go the dry cleaning route at some point, cba with the jacket, but trousers would be good redone - might go buy some red or pink ones while that's being done :P

Uh. Not a good idea... will fuck up waterproofing, seams, and might fuck up the whole thing.

I just wipe mine down - mind you I have many pairs of pants, none of which are white.

I was my friends in the sink at school because we were nervous about putting them in the machine.. and it worked out alright.

yeah dont put em in the machine. take to a drycleaners you trust though cos they could fuck it up too.

and stop fallin down in shitty snow!

meh i do it to my old white ones

then i just spray this waterproofing stuff on them afterwards

its for sure not as good as before

but it works well enough i dont get soaked or anything

just dont put massive amounts of soap in

just a little will do it

If you don't want to dry clean I would say go the hand wash route. At least then you have control over it. Take some tide-to-go to those babies. haha.

They make exactly what you need. There are a number of brands out there, but I use Nikwax.

To wash it, you need TechWash. It is built to not clog up the pores in the breathable fabric, and it won't destroy the seam taping.

If you want to renew the waterproof coating on the surface, you can also get some TX Direct spray on, which you can use after you wash the pants before putting them in the dryer to make your clothes shed water instead of wetting through.

An REI or any decent outdoors store should have it, and be sure to read the directions.
