Washing Saga

so i was being a dingus and forgot to take my Saga jacket out of my bag after a rainy day on the mountain. 3 days later i take it out and it smells really bad, so how do i go about washing it to get the smell out?

I believe the tag on the jacket says to wash cold and hang to dry. I had to wash my anomie after like 3 years and it's definitely something you want to avoid doing, it messes with the waterproofing. I've kinda retired that jacket though now, and I use a different one for skiing and that one for rainy or cold days not on the mountain. i wouldn't necessarily say your jacket is ruined, but if there is any other way to get the smell out I would recommend it

nikwax tech wash followed by nikwax wash in dwr. cleans the jacket and adds a new coat of dwr, so it will be better than before.

or just fabreeze works too

It's good that your asking this, a lot of kids just throw their stuff in the washing machine with regular detergent and then they wonder why their jacket isn't too waterproof or breathable anymore. Regular powder detergents block the pores on your jacket, which causes the waterproofing and breathability of the fabric to deteriorate. It's important to choose a detergent designed for your tech shells, personally I use Nikwax Tech Wash for my outer shells, because I find it works best. It's designed to maintain and revitalize the DWR (Durable Water Repellency) Coating on your outerwear, which can wear away over time. From time to time I also use Nikwax TX Direct Wash In, this adds DWR. Its important to note that if you're going to use TX Direct Wash In, do so after washing the garment(s) with Tech Wash first.

You should be able to find these out most outdoor shops near you, if not the local ski shop. But I've also attach links to the products on Nikwax's website, so you can see what you're looking for.

Take a look at this thread here too, there's some discussion on washing outerwear here -http://www2.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/741698/cat_id/25/

I wash mine all the time. Wash it without soap on cold then throw it in the dryer on low for like a half hour to and hour it's clean and stays waterproof.

Just read the label and follow instructions. Or watch Arcteryx's videos if you have a spare 10 minutes. So much misinformation in this thread.
