ok, so im rocking all white this year and i want to keep it looking sharp, the only problem is nix wax is kinda pricey, so what is ok and not ok to use to wash stuff? is there anything i should look for in detergents that will ruin waterproofing? or maybe even help it?

and yes, i did use the serch bar.

Watch out, don't fall on them rails! :D

I had a white jacket last year, just a shell, and after getting rust all over it I put it through the wash, and it came out fine. Just read the washing instructions on the tag and do what it says.

nikwax tech wash really sucks. it leaves a lot of residue on your outerwear. Granger's G-Wash is the way to go. REI carries it, not sure who else.

If you want your outerwear to stay waterproof, use the Granger's G-Wash. Regular laundry detergent will actually break down your outerwear's waterproofing capabilities much faster than using something like g-wash. If you want your expensive outerwear to stay waterproof then use it. If you don't mind it turning into a paper bag half way through the season, then use regular detergent.

nikwax tech wash. its a good non detergent cleaner and only costs $8 for a 10 oz bottle. it should last for a season of washing. its worth keeping your gear in good shape.
