Was it worth it?

ok so this is what happened.

6/6/06. im downtown with my friend jim for this business summit conference eating amazing food at this theater where the presentation is going to take place. my friend is getting into the music business, and through his connections, thats why we are there.

after its over, we know "the fray" if playing at the Murat theater. so we go to the murat, wearing our nice suits and ask if we can get in. they say that its sold out. so me and jim walk into the part we are allowed to go in. after trying to get in through the photographer guys, we are walking out and we see a stack of security guard shirts. we grab two, sneak past this thing to the downtstairs bathrooms. we change there and throw our jackets and shirts into this old cabniet. since we already had on black pants, we fit in as we sneak past the upstairs gate and into the concert.

we walk slow and basiclly act employed, telling kids not to lean on stuff and whatnot. so then we see tons of our friends, who we talk to nonchalantly. so the fray comes on and im as close to the stage as possible, and turning around occasionally to watch them, but more so keeping an eye on any trouble in the croud, keeping up the security image. after they finish, i hand out set set lists and picks to the croud and usher everyone out.

on the way back to our clothes, a head security guard stops us and asks us who we are and why he hasnt seen us ever. i just give him the "yeah im jake and hes jim, we work here". we get back to our basement bathroom hideout and change back. we take back routes around the Murat to avoid the head guard. well wehn we get upstairs, we hear "HEY! GET OVER HERE" and notice the head security guard sprinting at us. we panic, and book it towards the back door. we get out, i trip, ripping the pants of my suit. we both are still clutching our guard shirts, because we are panicked. so we run together, and then seperatly. 6 guards, at least 2 "civilians", and 2 cops are chasing us. i throw out all i learned from track and sprint full out left, and jim goes right. like 6 of the 10 follow him, and 4 me.

i get away, hide in the project housing a few blocks down. once im sure im safe, its about 12:20 now, i call him a few thousand times. hes not answering his phone. i call my friend mel, who saw us running. she can get me a ride, a kid from broadripple with a 300M is going to meet me at intersection on michigan street. i get there, and wait.

i keep calling jim. hes not answering. i know what i have to do. so i call mel and tell that kid not to come. i walk back to the murat. as im close, two cops grab me from behind and say "we know its you, come with us". so i go with them. jims already there, hes surrounded by 4 guards. these guys are all obviously high school drop outs, that eat creatine like its breath mints. so they are all pissed, and me and jim are scared shitless. we give the shirts back to the guys and they keep yelling at us. they were after the shirts we stole.

so jim tells me that one of the guards tackled him and punched him after we got out. he also never gave up my name, not even after they applied pressure. they call our parents, who at 12:30 ish drive downtown to pick us up from the back of the cop car.

so im facing a civil suit for the theft of the shirt, which we didnt have any intention to steal and gave back, i can never go back to the murat, and i have to pay for the ticket. criminally, im only 17, so it will be expunged because i havent any prior offenses, and they didnt read me my rights or anything.

im also deep with my parents. obviously no cell, im grounded, and have been passing the time scraping paint off lawn furnirure, or painting my house. i got to play the godfather game with my mom for a few hrs yesterday. and i cant go back to my old town in michigan for my friends grad parties.

do you think it was worth it?

i do.

well lets see. getting to see a shitty fucking band and getting in deep shit or not seeing the band and having everything be good for summer? i really dont know...

WELL. Thats sounds like FUN! Ill remeber this if I ever run into a situation like that. But It never occured to you to drop the suits? I mean if you would have dropped them you would have gotten away fine and had a kick ass story.

are you kidding me? sounds to me like the whole thing was blow out of poportion(sp?). My parents would be the ones after the gards for the shit they did, the material was returned and the only harm that was done was to you guys. I would have call that straight bull. My parents would have never grounded me over that, but they are pretty chill

i would have just left the shirts in the bathroom where u got changed instead of walking around the building carrying them

hell no it wasent worth it

you were away scot free and you went back?

your friend got busted.

nowhere in the man rules does it say you have to go get busted too. he knew not to give your name up. you would have been golden.

we didnt drop the shirts because we were so scared. you know when you are really really scared and arent really thinking straight?

they already cooled off.

i played the godfather videogame with my mom for like 3 hrs yesterday and before that, and this morning we went to da vinci code. also i get to go to my friends grad party today, just not the one back at my old town, and i still besides that am pretty grounded

its a good story, i wouldn't have done it for the fray, but still, something to tell your kids

that is the problem, people need to stop being pussies and sueing people over stupid shit. They got in trouble and a security guard gave them what they might have deserved.

Hahaha i think it was worth it. the fray arentmy favorite band but that sounded like a kickass time. i love that stuff when ur adreniline is going and stuff.

Jake, Just be glad you are 17, I'm sure that the states must have some sort of protection for minors like they do in Canada. Most likley you will get off from the charges with a minimal court sentence. Im sure your parent will get you a good lawyer.

I think your biggest challenge will be building back the trust of your parents. PS, I don't really think it was worth is. Just make sure you learn your lesson.

we didnt get in any legal trouble and the murat hasnt sent me anything...probably because it reflects negativly upon the security there.

and yes, they were all huge guards.

Totally worth it, Rent-a-cops are fuckin' dicks, they think they are the shit cause they have the shirt and a headset, Except this one time that a security guy let my buddies and I set up and slide this handrail for like an hour and a half.

But your friend should definitly pursue some legal action against that guy that socked him, that's bullshit. And The Fray is a good band.
