okay so today was the first day of using balls in soccer practice. i am a keeper and i am fighting for the starting possition with this other kid. and it is also a new coach and i want to show how much better i am then this kid. so when we were doing break aways and crosses, when i would go for the ball and takes the legs out from underneath the kids everyone would would bitch at me. i mean i don't want to hurt anyone but yet i also want to prove myself to coach and show him that im not fuckin around. i also believe that you play the way you prctice,m so if im a pussy in practice then coach will think im not that good and not start me. so what should i do? play like a pussy, or go as hard as i can and have everyone bitch at me?

neither...?

it's practice, you dont need try and kill every potential teammate. do what you need to when you to, and you'll get the place.

assuming you have preseason games, thats the time to prove you're worth it.

well i have neva played soccer for a team but any otha sport i know i wouldnt not give my best at practice.. but i also wouldn't want to injure a teammate even if they are jocking for the starting spot

Instead of taking out the legs, try to stay on your feet, and just lean against him while going for the ball. If you do end up knocking him over, your coach (if he knows what he is doing) will see that you're not doing anything illegal and will let it slide.

well i take the legs out for the 1 on 1's. for crosses there is no reason to take the legs out, but for the one on ones that is when i slide and take them out. so what do i do? i am not out to hurt anyone but yet i also want the spot for starting keeper and also want coach to see how good i am.

i think he meant he was playing in goal, while the rest of the team's outfield was practicing breakaways and crosses

so, i think he means he's coming out of the goal and taking them out, instead of staying in goal and giving them a chance to shoot

damnit i got pwned by 20 seconds

but yeah, i guess being keeper you really wanna fight for your spot - if you're second of 2 keepers trying out, you definitely wanna get on top, because although i dont play goalie, i bet that having to be on the bench there every game even though you're not needed is a bitch

Wow, you're right, my bad. I skimmed over the part where it said "keeper". However, you are completely allowed to come out of the goal to take out people, and you should as much as possible. If your teammates bitch about it, tell them to shoot earlier instead of dribbling it right up to you.

If it's 1v1 your teammates shouldn't care that you are going rough. Yes, it's practice, but it's what they would be facing in games. You don't need to go as hard in practices. Judge yourself off the other guy, go harder but not so hard you keep pissing everyone else off.

worrrd. we are coached to shoot from the edge of the box, the coach drills it into our heads. shooting a lot from the edge of the boxes works really well if you can place your shots (bottom or top corner on either side).

No, its your team you shouldnt risk hurting them, plus if your coach has any class they wouldnt want you to play like that anyway.

you should never do that to your team in practice, its one thing to just play hard, its another to play physical like you would in a game. Whenever we have practice and there is a 50/50 ball no one goes 120% trying to get it, but they still try and no when to back down so no one gets hurt. As for that retarded saying that the way you play in practice is the way you would in a game is completely wrong. I'm not going to try and kill my self to score a goal in practice, but i guarantee you that i would in any game that's worth something.

what level are you playing at? High school i'd say don't go killing people because it isn't as serious as college. And i'm just curious, what type of situation are you going in feet first? Even in 1v1 the keeper should usually be going in hands first, you want to get the ball in your hands first and foremost. But actually as a keeper i'm not the greatest possible at 1v1 situations so do whatever you need to to get the ball

And i say do what you need to in order to get the start, but draw the line at killing other players in practice

your coach also wants to make sure you work well with the team im sure...soo take it easy on the teammates and you're golden

I was in the same position 3 years ago, I lost the starting job in preseason. You do not want to sit on the bench all year. I don't know about your team but if my high school coach didn't think we were going 100% for every ball we'd be doing sprints. Plus a goalie should never have to back down from a 50/50 ball. A ref will always side with a goalie so its the attackers responsibility to get out of the way.

I've played soccer for 12 years now. If you know you're better then this other guy, you shouldn't have to hurt your team mates to prove it. Just play your best without being too physical, and your coach will notice.

if you are better than him, the coach will notice, and besides, i habe watched coaches not start kids just because they were too agressive during practice.

i've played soccer all my life and if you were just going in really hard i doubt your teammates would be bitching at you. Anyone I've ever played with loves it when a keeper takes a guy out cleanly, its one of the most badass parts of the game, even if its just practice. If it's a 1v1 drill and the guy got that close its his own damn fault. On the other hand, I bet the reason you're getting bitched at is because you're probably playing the body instead of the ball, or you're coming out with your feet or somehting. If your slide isn't clean or if you're getting too much body that's bad, especially in practice against your own teammates, and they have every right to bitch you out. Basically, go in hard, but make sure its clean and not gratuitously physical in practice.

I know what you are talking about. I play forward and was charging at the goalie on a long ball yesterday, and I pulled back at the last second so I wouldn't run this freshman tiny goalie right over. My coach pulled me aside and said, "No matter what, always practice 100% as if it were a game." And I think he has the right idea.

if you want to win you sometimes need to be aggressive- how much I dont know- but if I was going out for something I rwally wanted- id fuck errbody up that came between me and it

you were doing what goalies are supposed to do and if he isnt a dumb ass then your coach will see that

but try not to slide unless you really need to

but the best thing is to ask him what he wants you to do in a 50/50 situation since you have already proved you can slide and then you know what he wants and you dont have to rely on newschoolers

dude it sounds lik you were absolutely not going too hard. your teammates are just being bitches. they should understand that you are working for pt. plus it makes you better and itll make them better. keep hustling and enjoy not riding pine
