::WARNING::

CD's cheap? Think about this...a CD is about 2 cents worth of plastic. They cost almost nothing to make once production has started. Thats 19.88 cents of profit per CD sold, which is almost 1000% profit.

Right now I am sharing like 5000 files, and I will continue to do so. I have enough sense to know that the record companies are just using it as a threat. If everybody stopped sharing, file sharing would stop, thats what the're aiming for.

I think that certain stuff (like singles from CD's) should be free to download anyway. I mean, you can hear it on the radio for free, so you should be able to hear it on your computer for free whenever you want.

I remember during the Napster controversy studies showed that record sales increased since the introduction of napster. I don't know what it is now though.

ya. I'm pretty sure record sales are increasing, just not at the expected rate.

how do you really hear about songs? i've watched mtv and stuff they play the same kind of music and same people over and over..i wouldn't listen to nearly the same stuff if i just watched mtv and listened to the radio because the radio does the same things...

Coming from the industy not all record sales are down. The industy is coming up with ways to create CDs and DVDs that are protected to help cut down on burning and essentially sharing. But at the same time MANY artists but tracks on their sites so that you can sample the new album before it comes out. Many artists dont really care as long as their music is getting out there and people are enjoying it. The people who are complaining about filesharing are the executives of the labels. MANY rap artists have come out and said however you get my album I hope you like whether u buy it, borrow it or download it. The whole situation is being blown out of proportion!

If anything, file sharing has boosted the music industry. Just like some one before me said, file sharing is high, but CD sales are booming.

i did a debate on this this year, infact music sales dropped on napsters release..then climbed again to normal. things aren't that bad. Plus mp3's have benefits that the RIAA doesn't talk about, like higher concert turnouts, and more underground bands being noticed
