Warm helmets

What helmets that you guys know of actually have like a fabric liner inside? Ive looked at the giro fuse and 9 but they only consist of the foam mold with pads in em. Looks to me like they wouldn't keep you warm on cold days.

I guess im looking for something more aimed towards freeride, any suggestions?
 
dude i got a fuse and its hella warm even without a beanie underneath..

any helmet is gonna be warmer than a beanie i rekon
 
My G10 MX fits my head great with the liner in it, and if I pull the liner out, it fits great with a beanie under it.
 
i didn't know the 10 had a liner.

Ive been thinking and I want something with a hard outside shell and a liner inside, and preferrably available in silver... any ideas?
 
he's not joking. The helmet is designed to hold your head with what is there. Wearing a beanie underneith doesn't allow it to properly cradle your head.
 
Saying wearing a hat under your helmet is less safe is like saying the softer pads inside the helmet make it less safe because it allows your head to move around. Unless you have someone who is making you a custom molded helmet wearing a hat isn't going to give them much a performance change. In most cases the protection a helmet gives you only helps in road rash, and impaling type injuries...both things the hat does not deter the performance of. Having the helmet go over the hat and fit you instead of sitting on your head is important hat or not, if you want youre helmet to fit you with a hat just buy it a size larger and youll be fine. The design that goes into them as far as safety is alot less than most people think.
 
I have a giro G10 mx and it was warm as hell when I was out skiing in -15 degree Farenheit weather. The ear covers are really nice and the vents allow you to regulate the temperature really well.
 
the 9 is very warm, the coldest day we've had here was probably 10 degrees so far, I didn't have the vents plugged and I was not cold at all. Take the flaps off in the spring, plugs out in the medium temps and plugs in anything below 5 or so and you are good to go
 
Have you checked out the Leedom Vandal? It's a hardshell with seriously sick padding inside. venting's good in the spring. I got it with their audio Soundtracks. rocks. here's a pic:

Giro Nine's are actually super warm. Mine is so much warmer than my warmest hat. On super cold days I wear a really thin skullcap to keep my face warm.
 
those pads are designed to work with the helmet contours of the helmet. They just don't throw some foam up there and call it padding. The padding is proportional to the area in the helmet for where it is designed. Do not wear a beanie under your helmet.
 
The padding is nothing more than a comfort iten, the actual safety part of the helmet comes from the hardshell. The padding is not made custom for your head and therefore is probably not closer to the fit you would get from wearing a beanie. If your helmet is comfortable with a beanie under it, and still fits over your head properly, wear it.

If you think otherwise youre simply wrong.
 
there is less friction between a helmet and a hat than with hair and a helmet, plus, going up a size will make it too big without a doubt. this will deffinatly make the helmet less effective. you wont necessarily get a concussion if you wear a hat under the helmet, its just easier to et one. your call really, i dont suggest it though. my giro 9 is warm anyways, even with all of the vents open (i lost the pads that fill the holes)
 
if you want to stay warm and comfy goe with some racing shit like a boeri helmet you can make it look good if you got some smith regulator fuse
 
the plastic hard or in-mold (eg. giro 9.9 or G10) is only there to protect the grey foam underneath. That grey foan is what protects your head from impact.

The cause of a concussion is this, your skull and brain are moving together at what ever speed and your skull hits something causing it to stop. Your brain on the other hand will keep moving and smash into the inside of your skull bruising your brain (aka a concussion). The design of the foam is to compress in an impact and slow your skull down gradually lessoning the chance of your brain hitting the inside of your skull witch lessons the chance of a concussion.

That's why they say your should replace you helmet after a crash, cause the foam on the inside has compressed and it doesn't go back, not because its a conspearicy to get you to buy another one of the helmets.

What i said was that the hardshell is what protects your head, not the soft padding. The plastic on the inmold helmets is very thin and soft, hence when i say hardshell im speaking of the hard foam...not the shrunken plastic coating.
 
I went to Silver when it was 0 degrees earlier this year and my Giro Ravine SC (w/ the lame chick on the side) kept me plenty warm so long as I closed the vents.

I'd think almost any helmet would keep you warm.
