his movies are supposed to be really good. not newschool skiing tho. mostly big mountain. but thats what you'd want to see on an IMAX screen. like youre right there. ive never seen his movies, but they look good.

I actually don't mind warren miller, he takes everything he sees on the hill and puts it in his movies, doesn't discriminate against anyone. And he shows everything, from big mountain to powder8 to trees to newschool (just a little bit).

Its not a a cutting edge newschool flick by any means, its made for the majority of skiers and it shows. He makes good movies that Ive been watching for as long as Ive skied. Dont expect to be awed and dont expect to be let down. Watch it with an open mind.

 
He doesn't do anything to ruin the sport..so i can't really complain about it. I just find the style he uses for his movies to be a little annoying...with the narrating, occasional long boring segment and some of the old footage. I don't mind watching them..but i don't think i'd drop any cash for his movies.

 
His newer shit isn't as good as his old movies, thats for damn sure. Hes definately not a good jib flick producer, but thats not a bad thing

Warren Miller has been making Ski movies for over 50 years. He might not make the best newschool movies now a days, but his audience is to just about every one uses the Ski Areas. When i was a youngster and racing still i used to love to watch his movies. His newest one Cold Fusion had a little new school in it which was cool. He may not be making new school movies like Teton Gravity, Poor Boy, and so on but he is the Father of ski movies and you should give him some respect.

 
he's a cool guy, but i think alot of newschool ppl. are kinda in a revolution stage, you know 'new'school... meaning just that. new change, and well he's been around for awhile. so hes not exactly new and its taken him a bit longer to change his genre of video's. but i think he'll be back making the shyte he used too (good shit) and well he'll probably always appeal more to the older generation anyways. but all around hes a cool good guy with good stuff

One of my neighbors is John Teaford. He is some big cheese as far as writing the warren miller movies. He told me that warren's soon is taking over his business so be ready to expect some more upbeat ski movies from them. As for warren miller movies, I enjoy some of them but alot of them are really long and about 90% backcountry. My opinion is that backcountry is good in moderation, skiing pow is fun but watching others ski pow can get annoying because you get jealous of them...

i woudnt buy one but you can rent them at blockbuster by me so i rented one a while ago and even though it isnt new school stuff its more about locations and stuff which is kind of interesting but i cant imagine watching his movies over and over like i do with newschool movies.

 
yea i dont mind watching them..some stuff is pretty funny..he has alot of people crashing all the time

I saw an interview with him on tv not too long ago...and he is REALLY dedicated to this sport and loves doing what he does. You gotta respect that. He tries to show the lighter side of skiing in parts of his videos, like people having trouble loading chairs, punters taking some funny falls. Stuff like that. It's funny to watch sometimes.

haha, good convo SkierX. I just think that the premieres are fun but I wouldn't drop 20 bucks on the movie. The best parts are def footage bought from PBP and does he have to have that damn chairlift scene every year? Gapers falling off the chair is only funny for so long. Overall his films are just a big-budget super ski anywhere possible movie. For example, in 'Cold Fusion' they ski in like Kenya, er, somewhere in Africa. Why the fuck would you want to do that? The snow quality was absolutely awful and the mountains were tiny and flat. Just because something it there doesn't mean you have to do it.

On the brighter side, he's exposing the new side of skiing to a broader audience and has inadventently introduced freeskiing to the a large majority of mainstream culture. I may never buy his films or strongly support Nissan Pathfinders shown a dozen times throughout the movie, but he's done good and I'm glad the sport has him.

50 years of making movies and bringing skiing into the main stream of things, and after all that you come on here and just trash talk him like he's some useless old man who cant do a thing?

one huge thing for me is that theyre funny

in cold fusion, when they were showing all the begginers falling off the chair is was laughing soo hard and it was hurting so much because i had just got stiches in under my eye from a biking accident.

I don't know...I don't have anything against him. His movies don't quite compare w/some movies I've seen lately but they're still pretty cool. I think he kind of has a different audience in mind..maybe I dunno. I liked Cold Fusion, though. It was a good way to get everyone excited about the season too.

I think warrens films show a good representation of skiing as an overall sport, not just newschool, oldschool, racing etc. just because he isnt pbp dosnt mean his movies suck and you have to understand the audience he is filming for isnt strictly newschoolers. he also films backcountry stuff like noone else although long slow-motion shots of people taking face shots and having a great time tend to frustrate (i still can't see any snow outsied my window)

 
He lives on that ranch thingy where only residents can ski at, its fuckin cool. You could ski virgin pow for daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays.

 
Mickey - Have you seen any other WM films besides Cold Fusion? Notice a trend in every single one of them with at least one scene of gapers falling off lifts. It just gets repetitive and uncreative after awhile.

Um, dudes I'm sorry to bust your bubbles but all those chairlift shots are set up. Do you really think he would just have the camera trained on the lift all day waiting for a crash on it? But anyway, I still do like his videos for the most part. But I think the biggest thing is that his audence is the middle aged crowd, and 90% of the guys that ski newschool are younger, out of his target group.
