Want to ski in New Zealand?

Ha...well, I do. I am starting to plan a trip for next winter. I want to ski/live/work there for a month or so - mid July to mid August. I was wondering if anyone on here either lives there, or has been there that would be willing to give me some information about mountains, resorts, work, whatever! It would be much appreciated! -Sara

i was in NZ a couple years back, and mount hutt had some jumps then so they've probably done some upgrading and the town of methven is only 20 mins away, although the road up to the mountain was pretty sketchy. Might be better to go to queenstown, although the mountains aren't as close queenstown iskinda like banff a party town.

Don't drink and park, accidents cause people.

I live there and it ruuuules!! Don't go to Mount Hutt, it's pretty crap if you like park, actually it's just not all that good all around. Wanaka and Queenstown are where it's at. I live in Dunedin and am about 3 hours away. Treble Cone is where the hard cores go. Cardrona is where the Asian tourists go, good mountain that. Coronet Peak is where all the ponsy ass fags go and it suuuucks big time. Remarkables is where the Australian and English tourists go and it's not too bad. But Treble cone is where it's at. Oh and Snow Park is the new full terrain park, it's not a ski field, just all terrain parks on the one mountain, pretty dope, that's a cool place too. Heaps of mountains, wicky wack place, you'll love it but Tyler is right, you can't just come for a month, no one will want to hire you for a month, come for a season, enjoy it and live it up. Message me if you want to know more, I have heaps of contacts and hookups also. peace.

I pretty much agree with Phatty, but this is it, Wanak is the skiers town, Queenstown is the snowboarders!

Wanaka's where its at, definetly go there and work Cardrona, or Snow park. Ill see you there next winter, Bring on surfing in summer!

Lagwagon. Is it legal to marry a band?

I'd say it's quite the opposite dude, I know more snowboarders in Wanaka and more skiers in Queenstown.

Temple Basin is where its at, its a small club field about 1.5 hours drive from Christchurch. The facilities are basic, but you will NEVER wait in a lift queue, you will enjoy some of the sickest terrain in NZ. Park however = non existant, you want it you build it.

Next year there are some plans for a gap jump over the ravine though :D

If you wan't a full on comercial field, pretty much what Tim said, I'd work for either cardrona or treble cone. Also it is way easier to find accomadation in wanaka than Queenstown.

Freshies for a week after a dump? Temple Basin - Hell Yeah!

and a heapload cheaper yo.

Would be pretty hard to find any accomodation or work around Temple though wouldn't it James?? Been ages since I've been there but that gap would be super sick dude!! haha, tell me when!!

But yah, Treble Cone would definatley be the hell rad place to work at, pretty cruisy, everyone who goes there actually knows how to ski coz it's pretty hard core, not really for beginners or intermediates at all. Check out some of the websites if you want:

THe only way you could get accomodation for the season near temple would be by working for temple basin. You get payed sweet bugger all, but you get free food and accomadation.

Tim you forgot www.snowsportsclub.co.nz :P Its very much under construction at the moment though :D

This is the gap I am looking to set up next year, its not really that far, just as intimidating as hell. The photo is from last summer, you won't catch me down there in the winter far to wet and cold.

Its probably about 15 meters at that spot. And about 10 m deep at its deepest place. There is a huge run in, the difficulty would be building the kicker and the landing, the landing is so flat you would need to do something to it.

Just need to make sure that you do NOT check your speed under any cirumstances :D

I live in nz its awesome but dont go 2 hutt it sucks got 2 treble cone cardrona or snowpark.

Hutt dosen't suck, its just not the best in NZ, it does have the most reliable snowfall in NZ though.
