So here's the scene: I live in the hipster part of the city, directly off a Main Street. My side is houses, the other side a gated condo community. Decent neighborhood.

So the night a few nights ago I got home not too late, around 8 or 9 and noticed a dude smoking a cigarette leaning up against a small wooden fence by the sidewalk. No big deal, right? I lock my car, which he is roughly ten feet from, and go inside my house, another 25 feet or less away.

I FaceTime my lady friend, and now fast forward 2 or 3 hours to 1am.

I look outside and the guy is still there. Sometimes leaning against the fence, other times pacing, and occasionally he walks across the street. I'm still on the phone with my lady relaying her all this.. Another half hour passes and I think it's straight weird.

So I call the cops, tell them what I've seen, then wait. Two cars roll up ten minutes later, one cop looks around with the flashlight, the other cop talks to the guy. The guy hands the cops some papers, and a few minutes later, the cops leave, and the dudes stays there.

I go to bed, still confused.

I see him there the next two nights and try to just not think about it.

Then tonight I'm home and see him again, and my curiosity gets the best of me.

I keep tabs on him the next few hours. He chain smokes, has snacks that he eats, and a bottle of something to drink.

I want to see how shy this guy is, So I grab a couple cigarettes and go sit on my front steps to "smoke".. He immediately goes back to leaning on the fence and doesn't move or make any noise.

I light up the second cigarette. Take my time, and eventually he grabs his plastic bag, and walks by me and past the next building out of sight. I wait a few more minutes then go inside. Before I could even get my jacket off and look outside again, he was back.

Over the next hour, he crosses the street several times, walks up to the gated condo community and squats down like he's straining to see something. And he does this from several different angles. Then He'll eventually make his way back to his post 25 ft from my doorstep.

So now it's 3am and he's still there. Crossing the street, chain smoking, and pacing up and down the sidewalk, but never venturing very far.

WHAT DO I DO???? This is just weird guys. Do I call the cops again? If I call to try to find out why they didn't make the guy leave, would they tell me? Should I try to talk to the guy? what do you think he is? Or is doing???

Oh. And this guy is probably 40's, pulls out reader glasses to view his cell phone, wears black baggy pants, and a black puffy jacket, and a baseball cap. None of its torn up or dirty, all seems pretty new, even his shoes are decent condition.

talk to him. Tell him in a non creepy way that you have seen him chillin the past few nights and you were wondering whats up. It should not be a big deal if you just voice your concern to him.

probably a bounty hunter or bail bondsman trying to catch up with someone who skipped bail. or a repo man. my guess would be that his target lives across the street in a condo somewhere and he's hawkin' them waiting to make his move.

on that note, you should totally go talk to the dude. I'll bet he has some damn good stories.

this OP.

Just walk by him one day and say you seem him around and want to know what he is doing.

Make sure not to say this in a non creepy way because he might just shank you

If the cops don't bother him then he probably is undercover or something...go and talk to him probably has some awesome stories.

Are you opposed to asking him?

As mentioned probably an investigation going on of some sorts, I don't think he shank you

Or he is an assassin, will shank you, then set himself up in your place

agreed. if the cops let him stay then he obviously has some connection to the law. Guess he's not looking for you though so I wouldnt be too worried.

Or he might just be a crackhead...

If he is on a public sidewalk the cops do not have to make him leave for no reason i don't think

That's pretty odd, but I mean maybe he has a reason to be there. He did show the cops papers. Could be a lot of different things. He could be a private investigator trying to track down someones spouse to see if they are cheating.

Try talking to him and see what he is up to. Worst case scenario, he doesn't tell you.

my first guess would be his wife/ partner has broke up with him and not speaking to him. She now lives near you and he's creeping, trying to catch her going in or out the house and speak to her.

Yea, my first thought was a PI, specially since he showed the cops a thing of papers.

I went to sleep at 3:30 last night and he was still there, although he seemed a little more restless.

If he's there tonight, maybe I'll bum a smoke from him to try and start up a conversation..

go out, offer him a cigarette, and try to start up a conversation with him to see what he's doing/who he is

Maybe he thinks you're cute and he is to shy to talk to you. What he really wants is a strong man to hold him at night and tell him everything is going to be alright.

im gussing that hes a private detective or he works for the police and or goverment if you have a gated comunty beside you he could be watching somone who is involved with crime or something. do you know if anyone in the gated comunty drive black fancy german cars with windows the are very dark and tinted this might be a sighn that hes watching somone.

i might leave him alone for another day or two maybe go sit on your steps again and smoke and sees if he comes over. but i would not tell him that you know hes been there alot i would also not ask him if hes watching somone

TRUST ME I HAVE WATCHED LOTS OF CSI MIAMI lol
