Want to Film With TGR?

yeah jeez what's the deal? I think if you simply started a thread called "I ski with Dave Crichton all the time" and posted a selfie, NS would crash due to the volume of web traffic.

haha, we gave Noah so mush shit when you said he should enter the grom contest, none of us are under 18, Carter and Noah are 18 and I'm 19. also Carter would probably like it if i clarified that he is from smuggs while Noah and I are form mad river. Thanks for giving us a shout out though, its was a lot of fun hanging out with the meatheads.

There are loads of hugely impressive U18 big mountain skiers out there, from those competing on the JFT to the various junior comps across North America and those just shredding around resorts- plenty of big cliffs, big tricks and technical lines to be found if you pay attention.

Dave Circhton said my coked 7 are sick back in 2003. He was just being a nice guy my corked 7s sucked ass...

At first I was like, "Fuck this TGR contest. No EC kid is ever going to win" Then I was like, "Shit maybe an EC kid can win. It takes way more tenacity to make an EC pow video then someone from the west. I bet TGR would notice that and judge accordingly"

So yeah.... Are you really have problems getting submissions for your contests?

Andy Parry your cork 7s suck, and can you even ski powder? We'd never film you from a heli. Hahaha. (It's Dunfee by the way).

Yes, EC kids stand a chance. I mean, all the Jones brothers are from cape cod, and know what an east coast kid with promise looks like. Speaking of:

/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

Loon local Jack Finn (15) just threw down a sick edit. I mean, he slid a snowmaking pipe in his entry! For Loon, that's pretty much backcountry right there.

A french kid named Ghen Sasakura (17) just dropped a rad big-mountain'ish edit:

And I wouldn't say we have a "hard time" getting entries, I just feel like the depth of the pool of entries has rarely matched the scale of the opportunity. Again, here's the link to enter:http://www.tetongravity.com/contests/2014-tgr-grom-contest/

If any NS'ers enter this thing, make sure to throw your edit into the thread so Andy can make of you (and TGR)!

Which is always so out of place in your movies, and you should consider stopping. That park shoot for the Olympic hopefuls (only one of which was in the Olympics which I thought was sobering considering how much they ripped in that seggy) was so out of place in Way of Life.

Loved the movie, hated that segment

I also would to like to agree that Superunknown has unfortunately turned to a more park/urban content driven contest. Ever since they started having the finals as a park shoot.

If L1 finds the next Pwhite or Wiley, they would surely pass them on to finals. But they won't find them, because no one is driven to submit an edit like that. The contest now determines what kind of skier wins before they even submit an entry

Thanks for the feedback. I personally have mixed feelings about those park-only segments, but would tend to agree with you. I think L1P's formula lends itself to park/urban while TGR's is more big mountain. I'm pretty sure there will be an urban segment in this year's film, although I have seen exactly zero of the shots from that trip. It'll be interesting to see how that turns out though, as it won't have been filmed by our in-house crew.

yes? youre complaining super unknown is now too park centric, when in reality its always been 99% park and found one of the best pure park skiers in freeskiing's history. And it will probably continue to do so.

You always wear your blue hat when you go to work. You have yet to die at work. Your blue hat has always stopped you from being killed.

Tom Wallisch was found from Superunknown. Tom Wallisch is a strictly park skier. Superunknown has always been for strictly park skiers.

L1's contest has not always been curtailed to strictly park skiers.

BUT now, it has the potential to be. Logan Imlach could still win Superunknown, because he is good enough. But we won't see entries like his anymore. No one is going to submit BC booter shots if they have to go to Sun Valley to compete against some Kiwi who only submitted urban and has never been to a real mountain.

Can anyone else see what I am trying to say?

An example of a common logical fallacy, equivocation:

"You always wear your blue hat when you go to work. You have yet to die at work. Your blue hat has always stopped you from being killed."

An example of the incorrect equivocation you are arguing:

"Tom Wallisch was found from Superunknown. Tom Wallisch is a strictly park skier. Superunknown has always been for strictly park skiers."

A logical fallacy is an improper form of argumentation, and it is incorrect. You used an improper form of argumention, and you are incorrect.

Finally, here I am restating that you incorrect, and wicked fucking retarded.

"L1's contest has not always been curtailed to strictly park skiers."

Are you through?

im asking when it specifically wasn't tailored to park skiers.

Obviously a non park specific skier could win it, but when was this time you state that it wasn't strictly curtailed to park skiers? What years?

/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngSam Goodhue just dropped a solid East Coast edit into the contest, with a cliff drop and Wal Mart snowboard backie included! Huzzah!

YO TGR!

Youtube didn't like the song for copyright issue and your site wouldn't let me upload this file but this is his actual submission. PLEASE take it instead of the other one!

Thanks!

Yo Sam! For some reason our inbox isn't letting me actually reply to your message there, but I'll just respond here. We can only do Youtube edits on the contest, and I'll do my best to remember yours for this week's Sunday deadline, but since we're really focused on the ski talent (vs. the overall editing skills and song selection), I'd suggest just slapping a song that won't get knocked for copyright issues and submitting that. If it's on our actual contest site, I'll remember you had to change the song. It's a sick entry, though!

A couple sick new entries are up for consideration this week, though:

/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

16 year old Luke Smith from Switzerland slays pretty hard in this edit. It's pretty rare to see someone at this age who can send difficult & technical lines at speed with strong technique and little hesitation. Kid goes fuckin' fast! Also the hand drag 3 off the big cliff at the end was raddddd!

/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

Jonah Elston, a 16 year old Mammoth/Mt. Bachelor loc, threw down a pretty solid park-heavy edit. It's clear the kid has good natural style, and threw in some fun pow shredding for good measure.

/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

This French dude Ghen Sasakura I'm pretty sure submitted a similar entry earlier in the contest, or maybe I'm mistaken. At any rate, Ghen rips! Flat 3s off cliffs over exposure, ripping lines, and plenty of nosebutters!

These are my top 3 picks for this week's Sony Action Cam giveaway, so we'll see what the rest of the office thinks. Definitely some RIPPERS in the lineup this year!

I'd like to see this contest get a bit more hype on here. This isn't a 100k prize purse like the CO-LAB but getting to film with TGR is a big deal.

Doesn't NS know that TGR's closing seg man as of late is Tim Durtschi? It's not all straightening big mountain gnar from Ian Mac, Dana Flahr and Todd Ligare (but I enjoy watching them). Because of his CO-LAB displayed talents, they are now filming switch pillow destroyer Nick McNutt. Dylan Hood, Sage, Dash Long and even Colter Hinchliffe also bring style to TGR. Then there's smooth operator Max Hammer and his padawan Daniel Tisi. SammyC is always on the athlete call list, plus they've worked with Clayton Vila and have a great relationship with the Martini's. I'm just making the point that you shouldn't forget about TGR when you think of quality snow entertainment.

…and with this contest someone has a chance to make a splash.

the problem is it's an 18 and under comp......superunknown is awesome because it's kids that are right below or pretty much on a professional level of park and urban. there is pretty much no one under 18 years old that is at or on a professional level of big mountain skiing. to film a legit big mountain part you need to be really proficient and intelligent at touring, sledding, or have a heli/cat budget. find a 17 year old kid that has any of that. it doesn't exist. cut off the age restriction and you'd actually have something worth watching. i've seen all the grom contest entries so far, and honestly i haven't found one worth watching all the way through.

hahaha ghen sasakura is a half japanese kid that was born in alaska, but is on student exchange this year in france. grew up skiing with him, he's legit for sure. his first edit is from ak, his second is all in france.

Ahhh, so that's where Ghen came from! Sick skier. But I still think you can be a nasty "big mountain skier" before you're 18, I mean you could just be some ripper at Squaw, Whistler, Mad River Glen, or wherever and spend your weekends jumping cliffs and figuring out how to ski through technical terrain instead of going in the park. I wouldn't sell yourself short on the under 18 thing; raw talent is pretty obvious even at that age.

I've always loved your movies, but I can't stand the park segments. Just don't fit and too much slo-mo in a lot of them. What I would love to see from you guys is a BC jib session with guys like tim durtschi, dane tudor, p white, wiley miller. Just have a bunch of bc jumps & natural features and maybe some launch rails made out of logs off a cliff.

I've also always wanted to see a BC jump (40 - 50ft) to landing about 30 ft in front of a cliff. It would be like a double drop but instead of the first drop it's a jump

lol i got that weighty feeling in my stomach just imagining that. safe to say people would keep the first air pretty stock, landing a solid jump at high speed where im usually pulling my set up turn sounds scary

age limit is stupid. Many unsponsored/unfound skiers that are good enough to film with TGR are in college or at least of college age.

Why not maybe an age 25 limit or no limit at all?

I'm working on an edit for 11 year old brother. He's pretty decent but he would have no chance against anyone who's 25. This contest is kids so kids can get noticed. Why take that away from them?

This thread is awesome! We need more freeski media posting and interacting on Newschoolers.

TGR, you rock.

We're f*ckin' awesome! Haha. Thanks Moose/Jason. We do need to be on here a bit more, maybe I'll just post my sarcastic comments from TGR instead of from the BroBOMB account...

pick me!!! pick me!!!!!

slaagmaster is that you?!?

In other news, shit is heating up with entries, Euro shred Alex Moorhead out in the streets (mountains) of Switzerland gettin' piittttted so pitted!

Well, after ignoring the Grom Contest for several weeks, we're back in the game and have some truly rad edits to sift through. We'll be getting in touch with individual winners but since we can't post new content on Tetongravity.com (we're launching a brand-spankin'-new site in the next few weeks!) this week, I'll announce some winners here:

Week 5 Winner: Xander Guldman - 15 - Sugar Bowl, CA

Week 6 Winner: Jaxin Hoerter - 13 - Breckenridge, CO

Jaxin can shred a lot of different shit, and with some actual style, at the tender age of 13. Radical.

Week 7 Winner: Parkin Costain - 15 - Whitefish, MT

Week 8 Winner: Seth Klein - 17 - Alta/Snowbird, UT

I hope this kid gets tons of chicks. There is some serious slaying of giant cliffs and double flips in this edit from Seth, pretty generous sizing of confident style and brass balls with this guy...

So all the people mentioned above, we'll be getting in contact with you to get your address to send along a Sony Action Cam! And you'll all be eligible for a chance to have your edit featured ahead of this year's ski film, Almost Ablaze, and the chance to film with TGR. Woot woot!

Honorable mentions:

Just behind these winners were some serious shredders who all deserve contention for the overall title:

Christian Kinnison - 17 - Alta/Snowbird, UT

Loic Isliker - 16 - The Netherlands

Aiden Ulrich - 17 - Jackson Hole, WY

Thanks to all the 91 entries this year - there were some CRAZY talented skiers especially, and the talent pool itself was a big step up. Thanks NS for participating and being a part of this thing too - can't wait to see who gets the golden ticket to the Wonka factory on June 20th!
