Want to be an Amplid boot product tester?

The ARC has begun development of our new ski boot project, and a limited number will available early next season. These will be for testing by our team riders, key shop staff, friends, and a few lucky Newschoolers members. True to Amplid's "scientific underground" approach, we're opening this opportunity for riders around the world to participate in the design feedback process, refining several models to be introduced in 09.

Interested? Here's the deal: follow the link below to our special ARC test page for details. A limited number of pre-orders will be accepted, and the boots will be shipped by October 15, 2008 (or sooner if they're finished in production). The feedback process will be explained when you receive your order, then we'll be collecting test-data and comments throughout the season.

Oh, and there's one little catch. We have to submit final production numbers in just a few days, so this offer is only open for 48 hours from now, or until the program is full (whichever comes first). Quantities are also limited by size, so don't wait too long if you want them.

Here's the link, no promo code necessary for test team pricing:

Good luck, and never stop riding.

the Amplid Research Cartel

355 for a boot that we know nothing about? Sounds like it could either be really dope or a waste of 355. Nothing against amplid, dope ass company, but you'd think if you're "testing" the boots they would be cheap or even free...

sooo let me get this straight... we're pretty much taking a huge gamble by spending $355 on a boot we know nothing about, that hasnt gone through a a real world testing phase...

Correct, a more appropriate title for this thread would have been "Want to buy an Amplid boot?"

In all honesty, I would gladly pay $100 to test your boots, but $355 is frankly unreasonable, and unrealistic for a lot of skiers.

wow.. yeah. i was all ready to click the link then i saw what you guys were saying. i guess it's cool to be testing new product, but i guess if i was on that marketing team, i'd use it as a promo as well-- with a discount price or no cost at all, like described. you're looking for opinions from the customers, so you really could benefit greatly by losing a little in giving away a boot intially. i hope this works out for amplid, but mehhhhhh no dinero here.

I'd love to test out your new boots but not for $350 or whatever the price tag is. I'd shell out $100 tops for a boot that it totally untested.

More info will be added to that page shortly. To clarify quickly, these boots have already gone through the design and internal testing phase for many months. The "pre-launch" model released to testers is a full-production quality boot, which if we wanted to, we could begin selling to the entire market next season.

But we won't. Instead we'll take time to hear what those who ride it have to say, what you like, what you want tweaked, etc. This is what it takes to build products to our next level standard.

These boots are being offered at a special test team price. If you work for a shop, feel free to contact us directly. The actual retail price will be considerably higher, yet competitive with other freeski boots currently available. This is one reason the ARC test program is very limited.

I am sure it is a re make of some old model, or last. it costs a company millions to just up and produce an all new ski boot, seeing as Amplid gets their bindings by Tyrolia and their owner is closely relayed to HEad snowboards leads me to believe these are head boots. Dalbello Il Moro was 350.0 wholesale to put the cost into persepctive

with two top buckles.

the way its described seems like its a legit boot but 48 hours is a little short notice i think. good luck.

It just proves that the old raichle was way ahead of its time. Every new freestyle boot is based on it. Dalbello Kryptons, Fulltilt is the actual flexon reincarnate, that new goofy looking rossi boot, now this. They are all based on the basic 3 piece shell.

Boots aren't something you buy over the internet unless you've tried the exact model on in person, and you know it fits. Nothing is worse than an imperfect boot fit.

You could purchase this boot and it could be way too wide or narrow for your foot. You just don't know. Don't waste your money.

Those look like the old LINE transfer boot

they look sick, but i have nice boots for my feet.

definatly not a flexon rampage clone.

look at teh cuff, it's a wrap around seems like a mix between the flexon lower part and a regular boot upper part.

i think the reverse buckle on the toe part isa bad idea as it will be easier to unclip when doing crossing skis.

it's really nice to see your using wrap aroudn intuition style liners.

having info on the wideness of the boot and the stiffness and overall fir would help

spending 355 on something you never put your feet in seems illogical to me.

boots are not something you should get without knowing if they fit your feet. I also believe having random nobodies that dont even know if the bot fit their feet wont give you good reviews since the boot might just not be what they need as far as fit goes.

I will test them and if they turn out then I will purchase them. If not I will still pay a certain amount towards them, but not the full value.

Wow, thanks for all the interest so far. Seriously bigger response than we imagined, and the queue is filling up fast. A more detailed description is posted now. If you're not ready to commit, but still want to demo them once they arrive, select Amplid dealers will have some to try. Again, availability will be very limited, and they probably won't last long, so it might help to inquire with your local shop now.

Looks like a new Line Transfer (which came from the Flexon, I know).

I like the part that comes over the ankle joint, this thing reminds me of a touring boot (the walk feature will be very appreciated, for sure).

Replaceable sole?

And there is no way on earth that I would buy a boot still in the development stages without trying it on, especially at that price.

I feel bad for anyone who pays to be a test subject....that whole concept is twisted.

i think the whole not having a powerstrap thing is alittle sketchy. no support on the top 3 inches in front..... i dunno, little skeptical

This whole idea is ridiculous. You seriously think you're going to get good feedback from doing a boot test like this?

And yes, it looks like it's just a rebranded Raichle/Deelux boot with DIN soles, but that price is actually alright compared to full retail.

isn't the whole advantage of being a product tester that you get the stuff for free? I could buy spks or dalbellos or anything for that much money and not have any homework to do for them.

sounds like you get a discount before they jack up the price next year. So is saving $100 bucks or so worth it if you don't get to try on the boot or know any of the specs? Only thing i can tell is it looks shockingly like a dalbello with inverted toe buckle, id liners, and 3 piece design. And from the looks of it they replaced the power strap with another buckle. Maybe they did something different and made it with a wider last?

Great response so far, but it's last call now and we're about to close the program in a few hours. Looks like we'll be building a few more than projected. Thanks again to everyone who contacted us with questions, and especially those getting involved, we really appreciate your support.

i just realized there's a more details link. It answers some questions

We started with lengthy team rider input sessions, then recruited a few

seasoned boot scientists from the underground ranks of the cartel.

There's solid history here, blended with newschool freestyle/freeride

thinking. It has a 3 piece shell for performance, comfort,

adjustability, and ease of entry. The separate tongue construction

allows for variable progressive flex. For 08, this boot will have a

medium stiffness, targeted for all-mountain and park riding (not too

soft, not too stiff, basically just what our team asked for). We're

also considering the option of multiple tongues, depending on upcoming

rider feedback.

The photos above are a bit rough (production prototype shown). The

version shipping in October will be upgraded in several ways. First,

the finish and graphics will be improved cosmetically. A webbing

top-strap has already been added (missing from the photos). The

production liner is actually much different than the one shown. We're

using a high-end, custom heat-moldable thermoform liner (with tongue,

not the wrap-around liner shown). The cuff has cant angle adjustment,

and multiple forward lean lock points which are easily changed

on-the-fly, as well as an open walk-mode. Reversed fore-foot buckle,

obviously, to eliminate catching.

Sizing is standard modopoint, and the US equivalents shown have

been verified by our early testers (shells change on the full size,

i.e. 27 and 27.5 are the same with a different half-size liner). These

boots are speced for medium sole width (super wide feet beware). The

liners allow for a cutom fit range within each shell size, and working

with a good bootfitter is always the ticket regardless what brand you

choose. As with any boot, we can't guarantee fit over the phone, but

we're confident that our chart is accurate. Stock in-season will be

almost non-existent, with just a few extra pair available; so while it

might be remotely possible, please don't count on being able to

exchange sizes (although we'll do our best of course). The Subgenious

retail price will be somewhere between $500-600 USD, with the

possibility of a wider offering in the future. Our goal is to build a

no-compromise, technologically advanced ski boot, from the best

materials available, and at a sustainable competitive price. Stay tuned

for more info on the results of this test program, and on the

development of our boot lineup moving forward.

What a joke, even with charts and shit its gonna fit less than half of the people who buy it ( for testing) . If you need boots go to a shop and get fitted. This is a scam to make some money so they can produce more, do you really think there going to take random peoples input in design? Thats why they have team riders. Save your money, don't ever buy a boot online. They are trying to make you feel "special" by saying its testing, BS
