Walmart = evil empire

how many agree that walmart is the worst store in the world it just basicly kills the United states economy. I mean they buy almost every thing from china and other asian countries sell it for moderately cheap and they dont have to pay taxes on the stuff that they ship in because china pays no taxes to the u.s. Boost there economy. Then they dont pay their staff anything so there just making of like bandits. Does any one else feel this is complete bullshit. i mean the least the u.s gov could do is to start putting a tax on goods shipped in from china that way they would start buying more u.s. goods.

Also when walmart gets done with a store and like decides to build a supet center or something instead of selling it they leave it so no other stores can purchase it. They dont tare it down they leave it cause they dont want to spend the money. also they dont give back to the community they are in at all they take business away from the local business. Causing the stores to close and shit. i believe we should do something about this its going to get out of hand and just screw us over.

sorry about the rant i hope some of u agree with me

agreed, but it's parking lot is really smooth and fun to skate on and they have lots of manny pads all over and lots of grass gaps

that isn't why their stuff is cheap. everyone buys from china. it's cheap because they do all the distribution and shipping themselves.

no. walmart is the biggest corporation. but people will probably think any company that is the worlds biggest corporation will be an "evil empire."

whatever im sure if you ownded walmart youd do the same cause people like being rich...and its not effecting us that much..

That's the way business works. The people who can create the most for the cheapest (providing it doesn't fall apart) get the cash. I think Wal-Mart is doing a great job. If not for outsourcing everything would be more expensive. Although I do agree outsourcing is kind of immoral.

That makes a lot of sense, you do realize that they share most of the same business practice and pay scales and benefits packages. But, you being the ignorant dumbass are completely influenced by the media and marketing. Just because Target advertizes to the upper middle class like yourself, allows them to distance themselves from WalMart. They are profiting on people who lack common sense like you. So, don't have some above it all attitude because you shop at Target. Also without cheap imports America would be fucked, we are used to having inexpensive retail items.

whats the difference between stores like wal mart and target and shit? they sell the same fucken stuff but for some reason people rag on wal mart cuz theyre the giant. if walmart sells levis jeans people say theyre using children to make them but right next door there could be another store thats selling levis but no one will say a damn thing even though theyre not made at different locations. i say just leave wal mart alone. they had a plan and they succeeded

Maybe you should look at what they give to their communities and in charitable giving. Newsweek ranked Target higher than any other, and you cite no sources for your facts. Please, do yourself a favor and do a bit of research.

charitable giving is such a low percentage that it doesn't equate to shit. I don't have to cite sources because it come knowledge. WalMart takes the public flack, while Target can slip in behind unphased. I can gurantee that I know more about this than you do. And who the fuck cites Newsweek?

think about this

walmart helps lower income families afford things they probably wouldn't be able afford otherwise

as for pay, they pay alot better than other company's and offer health care and all that stuff

Yes, but theres an argument that Walmart lowers property values and kills other businesses in these low income areas, which effectively keeps people poor, or makes their situation worse.

To threadstarter: So basically you are advocating high protective tariffs so that we don't import as much from China, when really that would just lower the standard of living for millions of Americans who would no longer be able to afford cheap imported goods.

A more logical approach to reducing chinese imports would be to convince them to stop undervaluing the yuan relative to the US Dollars, tariffs and quotas would just screw over American consumers. Free trade ftw.

Also, Walmart is great. They are an example of a ruthlessly efficient corporation that delivers real savings to its consumers.

i for one am now boycotting all walmarts, they are truely an evil empire, they in no way help the american econemy, and for all of you who say "cheap prices for the american consumer" well, we are actually paying them in a way, they have the most employees on welfare or some sort of food stamps than any other company in the U.S, its mind boggling how much the government has to pay these walmart employees with their "full time" jobs that are 26 hours

EXACTLY! There are people within our country who live paycheck to pay check, and often get basic necesities at cheap prices due to walmart. On the other hand, our people living paycheck to paycheck live considerably nicer here than in the rest of the world, but intra-nationally it creates a ton of jobs, and can give products to those who wouldn't be able to afford them at a speciality store. It gets rid of mom and pop places, but hey this is capitalism not selling girl scout cookies.

i used to think that, but penn & tellers episode on wal-mart actually proves how beneficial it is, making the same points some kids make here.

Walmart must go because it is a breeding gound for hazardous bacteria and virous but Sams Club (a branch of walmart is you didn't know) can stay cause they are legit as hell and even have lower prices

Walmart also encourages it's employees to take out welfare to cover benefits that they don't offer. If any of you are actually true fiscal conservatives this should enrage and disgust you to no end. But I'm pretty sure most of you just listen to glenn beck and walmart isn't a very popular topic for him.

its a business, isnt the the idea of having a business is to maximize profits so you can be successful? big or small corporations will still fight it out with other business so that they get more customers to maximize profits. its not very hard to understand. walmart wanted to be the corporate giant and they did just that so props for them on achieving that. i doubt it was easy work to become that large of a company. ever go to a walmart store in a bit city?? its always jam packed because they appeal to the customers and get them to shop there. theres no idiots behind this corporation otherwise theyd be bankrupt

i really dont mind them. they bring jobs to the young, the old, and the retarded ones. all the shit they sell is mad cheap and if it breaks just take it back. and it provided a really fun road to drive on that when it rains a huge mini pond forms and you can blast through it. mad fun. whatever thats my view

^ for every 2 jobs walmart hands out, it gets rid of 3 for people working in small buisness....you do the math

And creates market efficiency, with lower prices and transactions cost. This raises consumer welfare, if the small businesses still want to compete they need to fill a niche, either via customer service, or a different product line. Many can't stay in business because they don't have the necessary skill set to recognize this and just blame it on Walmart and not their lack of business skills and looking at the bigger picture. When I can mathematically prove that Walmart lowered the CPI in the last decade and a half, I will win the noble prize, or one of Walmart's coveted vests. Uppermiddle class, elitist socialists, stop bitching about Walmart. Even though I guess Walmart's master plan is to turn the country into a giant, socialist walmart. Oh no, keep the poor in a perpetual debt-cycle. Go suck Karl Marx's dick.

wal mart has done some pretty shitty stuff. like a while ago the wal mart brand fish had very high levels of mercury in it. business wise, walmart is successful, but morally, and ethically, they can do pretty much whatever shitty stuff they want, and they do.

not to mention the ammount of robberys that take place in their parking lots

and a little fact: the waltons have donated under 1% of the earnings to charity, where as Bill Gates has donated almost 50% of his.

If you can't actually spell economy, then your opinion in said subject should not be taken seriously at all

I beleive target gives 5% to charity, sure target is close to as bad, but it is a little better, I try to shop at local stores but if i have to buy something i would much rather do it at a store that does care a little bit about the community and their employees (target).
