It seems such an utterly crazy idea. Just another indication that FIS still regards freestyle skiing as a fad and isn't taking the athletes and the sport seriously. I'm stoked that we get to see it in the Olympics, but I can't help but feel that newschool skiing (at least in the competition side) is being slowly corrupted.
 
Yossarian makes good points. Theyre just not taking these events seriously, Obviously they value judging in the Olympics so or must be the sport that they don't value
 
Agreed. It's absolutely ridiculous. Remember how much snowboard pipe revitalized the winter Olympics when it was introduced? It became one of the premiere sports of the event and the ratings were through the roof (apparently--I don't have hard evidence available). The introduction of these sports is going to keep the youth interested in the Olympics, something that is utterly important to the future of the games. It's sad to think about the millions of dollars they spend putting on a spectacular opening ceremony for the Olympics yet they cannot afford the money to have proper judging? Is this a joke? It's sad to see our sports not being taken seriously.
 
awful idea. this is the most disappointing thing i have heard. there isn't one sport that combines judges in the olympics so why do it with skiing and boarding. that big jump thing they have with the really wide skis has there own judges and no one even watches that. this has to changes because it ruins the sport. personally, i think all the riders should boycott the olympics until they change this.

well i guess i live under one heck of a rock. i cant watch that vid right now and i've got no idea what the fis has done. could someone give me the basics?

I am not aware of how concrete of a possibility this is, but what I have gathered is that FIS is discussing using the same judges for skiing and snowboarding in the Olympics. That would be some weak sauce.
 
seems like this could be a good thing, ski judges are known to be the worst ever,tom of all people should know, he lost the usopen cuz a judge gave him a ZERO for not using poles.

snowboarding gave birth to ns skiing, or else it would really still be aerials and FIS twister spread eagles,

who can actually judge ns skiing in two more years? there are few people who truly understand ns skiing now, and they couldnt be bias per country...or per someones personal style

they should just cancel this shitshow now

this is why it was such a BAD IDEA to have FREESKIING HALFPIPE in the OLYMPICS in the first place!!! It is 100% completely clear that the Olympics is all about making money. If you dont see that by now then you are completely blind.

FIS has no interest in the long term health of our sport and they only have short term earnings in mind.

ATTN POTENTIAL OLYMPIC ATHLETES: If you compete you are a clown in the corporate circus doing tricks for peanuts while the fat cats are cashing in. KEEP THE 'FREE' in FREESKIING and BOYCOTT FIS and this structured/restrictive form of skiing.

Haha at you calling out pros who want to make a living off of skiing and have a chance to compete in the Olympics, pretty funny. You prob live completely off your parents.
 
I still have my High North 'FIS SUCKS' wife beater from back in the day.
Coming from restrictive freestyle, Szocs and the crew knew what was up. It was only a matter of time before FIS did something stupid like this.
I need to repost McConkey's rants against FIS. Let me find them......

 
there are literally no skiers or snowboarders who actually like FIS, why the hell does it exist? they make shity rules and destroy the fun of skiing/snowboarding!!
 
I see mine everytime I go home and open my old dresser at my Dad's house... Those shirts (and stickers were priceless).
 
They do run a ridiculous amount of racing events. So some people must like them. I don't have a problem with FIS existing - if it wasn't FIS it would be something else.

It's that FIS is swiftly becoming increasingly out of touch with the rest of the community and as such is becoming more of a hindrance as opposed to an organisation concerned with the promotion and progression of snowsports.

This is what I personally feel the New Canadian Airforce were against - the restriction and the limitation that was put on a sport that was evolving faster than the corporate entities behind it.
