Walking Dead Season 3 Thread

"hey what sup cutie? yea i have aids so you'll just have to blow me."

i wish that was clarified in the show how you cna get infected.

What I don't get is how you die if you get bite or scratched. It's like everyone is infected so obviously the virus or whatever it is isn't lethal right... So I guess a small scratch or getting bite on your hand will kill you...??

I think that's part of the suspense. I mean Shane turned into a walker without being bit or scratched, he simply died and came back that way. Rick has said the CDC guy told him they are all infected.

I'm confused by this as well. So no matter how they die, they come back as a zombie (as long as their head is intact), but if they get scratched or bit they also die? But then it can't be the infection that is killing them because everyone is already infected.

so spooky for lori. if her baby is dead, then it turns into a zombie, then will fuck up laurie inside and she'll turn into a zombie.

i could see the baby being born immune or osmething as well.

as if the antibodies were passed down through lori or somehting.

never thought of this. would be kinda cliche / corny IMO but would probably be pretty good plot-wise. i honestly have no idea how i think this show should wrap up, i never actually read to the end of the comics...

Nah it was derrell's drug stash but I noticed that too haha just a bunch of blue meth usnderneath the prescriptions haha

Babies don't have teeth or anything so I'm not sure it would be able to eat lorie from the inside out

You'd think after all this time they'd be rocking some zombie proof clothes. Leather jackets and masks or something. Going toe to toe with something that wants to claw and bite me, I'd sure as hell be wearing more than a tshirt

Why is everyone so put out by the little leaps in logic with this show? It's about zombies. If you can't suspend disbelief for the sake of being entertained, what's the point?

There are potentially logical explanations for every one of the "flaws" people have pointed out, for the sake of argument, I'll throw around a few ideas, but really, I can't imagine sitting there watching this show and looking for each and every little logical inconsistency.

"Why do people die from bites/scratches when they're already infected with the virus?"

Many viruses (and let's not just assume that whatever causes people to become walkers is a typical virus or behaves in the same ways as those we're familiar with...for all we know there's a friggin supernatural/paranormal/quantum physics element to it, haha) can be introduced to an organism and lie dormant and the "infected" is basically just a carrier wherein no signs or deleterious effects result.

It is feasible that these carriers could become actively infected after other substances are introduced and/or the virus undergoes some sort of transformation. It's possible that the virus, as a living organism, has a life cycle, perhaps like rabies where once certain other conditions are met post-infection, the virus behaves differently, mutates, rapidly reproduces and overwhelms other cells, etc.

There are many plausible explanations as to why a bite/scratch/direct bodily fluid contact would cause a change. 1.) there could literally be a chain reaction caused by the body's physiological response to trauma, i.e. shock whereas the virus responds to physiological changes brought on by the attack/injury itself. 2.) There could be varying levels of virus material between carriers and actively infected walkers. It could be that introducing walker saliva, blood, tissue, etc. to a carrier's blood causes a chemical reaction or somehow amplifies the virus. Specifically, it could be that the virus becomes active in the wake of an immuno response, hijacking white blood cells or t-cells and begins to attack healthy cells in a sort of micro-walker bite scenario 3.) It could be that the virus itself is ONLY active in dead or infarcted tissue. If that were the case, it could be posited that a zombie bite/scratch causes necrosis in the surrounding tissue (like a rapid onset gangrene) which makes it susceptible to the virus, triggering a systemic surge of the virus. This possibility fits nicely with the fact that all people who die, regardless of cause, be come walkers...it could just be that a healthy, active immune system keeps the virus at bay, and when that system ceases to function (death would certainly cause that cessation) the virus works it's magic. 4.) It's possible that virus has "male" and "female" or A and B subtypes and that full on active infection is contingent upon the two coming together. Expanding on that, it's possible that once the virus is active, or the person has become a walker, there is a secondary virus or a chemical process that results in a "delivery" virus being developed (bad analogy: you have radioactive plutonium, harmful, but that potential for harm is exponentially increased when it's implanted into a missile).

I realize none of those explanations are fool-proof or spot on, but the reason I did that was simply to say if you're going to start asking those sorts of internal show logic q's, go a step further and try to think of possible explanations. That's a big if, and I would recommend not doing either and just enjoying the show for what it is, haha.

As far as why don't people cover their mouth, and/or why aren't they infected by swallowing walker blood....well I don't know. It may be that there is a plausible reason,or it may be as simple as the producers decided to sacrifice a small degree of "reality" so that they didn't have to cover the faces of their actors. It's TV, it could be simply a pragmatic situation where covering faces makes getting dialog difficult....It could be that simple. This issue is though a little tougher to defend because on the show they go to lengths to ensure that their water isn't tainted by walker tissue (the well, and the canal in the prison yard), but then again, we haven't (they haven't) seen an instance where someone became infected by ingesting water contaminated by walker tissue, so we don't know that it even is transferable in that way, so perhaps they're just being cautious which is perfectly reasonable. There are many substances, chemicals, bacteria/viruses that are not orally active, meaning that they aren't transmitted through introduction to the mouth or GI tract.

Annnnd.....that's a whole lot of writing about pointless shit, hahaha. Guess that it's a good thing when a show can create this kind of dialog and debate, though. Hey, anything to avoid studying for my OEC midterm though, right? Ok, ok...back to reading about respiratory emergencies and thoracic trauma...

im pumped that the doctor got bit, now hopefully the wife dies and the show will be 4 1/2 times better! now to just get rid of the chick who's with the black samurai babe

my girl and i had this exact conversation the other night as we were watching the show. these guys are running around in sleeveless shirts like a bunch of retards. i'd be clad in leather head to toe with one of those riot gear helmets and shields to make sure that nothing can kill me without putting up a hell of a fight.

if hershel was wearing leather pants, he'd probably still have a leg!

depends, If its 30 celcius then theres no way that I would wear some leather pants and jacket with a helmet and all that shit, but I know that in season 3 it's winter or almost so yeah they should prolly find some better clothes. IMO I'd never be wearing tons of protection, I'd just fight till I die because I would think that there's little chance to find a cure so I would just have fun blowing zombies head all day err day

Andrea is actually such a sick character. Other than Maggie she's the only woman who has any balls to stand up for herself....Lori and carol just whine. In other thoughts, I sense sexual tension between Daryl and carol. That conversation they had standing on the bus? Yeah. It's gonna happen.

she has balls to stand up for herself but she shot a fellow with a sniper because of this. she better die, the black woman has much more balls and is a badass

meh, lori and carol have been playing an essential role of representing women in how this sort of situation would pan out. they have been mothers, done laundry and made food, whined, etc.

That one girl with the black chick is an idiot and shot someone by mistake.

Maggie is ok

the black chick is intense, i mean a smaurai sword is prob the ultimate stealth weapon for an apocolypse

I feel the same way about her as I do about the guy crying in the stairway in saving private Ryan. Nothing but hatred and wishing death upon her soul for shooting my favorite character in the show. Everything else you said: I agree and gusta. My second favorite is gonna be the black chick. Slave zombies ftw

the whole zombie thing is so fucking overused.

Zombies fucking suck. Theres no zombie apocalypse coming.

Fuck you all

/rant

hes just mad because when the Miami zombie came about he stocked up, bought knives, guns, canned food, etc. He was ready to slay some zombies. He's just wishing it would come and has finally come to the sad realization it is not going to.

And I just watched the season premier yesterday. So sick.. Next episode looks even better. So happy I decided to watch all the episodes and catch up.

Anyone else think that the producers are waiting until Merle re-enters the picture before giving T-Dog a story arc? I mean he was the guy who dropped the keys leaving Merle to chop his own arm off. There's gonna be some tension.

I wish I didn't know Merle was coming back but I think it will make an interesting dynamic. I mean Merle isn't really a people person so I think he might create some tension with everyone. I think it will more play out like Merle wants Daryl to come with him and leave the group and Daryl probably wont want to after everything that has happened. If Merle does decide to stay then we might get some character development from t-dog. Hopefully.

i felt that all last season but hes still kicking, im feeling/hoping the producers have something in mind for him. If he doesn't develop before the return of meril, andrea, etc. then i think he will be killed off.

Did anything ever happen with the black guy and his kid from the first episode? Thatd be a cool comeback

i already watched most of it on sunday during the marathon ahah. i think I only have like 4 full episodes to watch before i'm completely caught up

sorta wish i hadnt read as far into the comic. even though merle isnt in the comics, Im almost positive that i know where they are going to bring Merle back in the show. it will be awesome though.

kinda wish i wasn't then I'd be able to watch the third season without having to wait a week in between episodes!

So stoked for the next episdoe.

i am fucking stoked. I hope they turn the prison into a sweet ass zombie proof shelter. Holy fuckery i'm stoked.

Im glad Carl finally stopped being so fucking retarded and grew a pair of balls. He was so careless and stupid in the first two seasons. Now he will become a boss. New favorite character? The black chick

This. I couldn't stand Carl in the first 2 seasons. He was such a little bitch. So much better now. Even tho i'm sure he's still gong to fuck everything up since he's the only little kid and in every tv show the little kid fucks something up.
