Wakeboarding

Is it similiar riding a snowboard? like edge wise? Because it looks supr fun, and i got hard watching sum clips (no homo)

Yes and no. The biggest difference is gravity is pushing you down the mtn. when you're riding a snowboard - the force is fairly evenly distributed behind you. Obviously when you're wakeboarding you're being pulled by a boat, i.e. the "pull" force is concentrated at your arms meaning you need more core strength & leg/hip strength/coordination. It's pretty easy tho. If you're a good rider, you shouldn't have a hard time transitioning.

not all that much like snowboarding from my one experience. especially the edges its much looser.

......Captain Obvious i guess

really the only similarities is that the boards look similar. as said above balance is completly different because wakeboarding you have to compensate for the pull of the boat by leaning back but snowboarding you need almost neutral to forward(took me a while to adjust). i never snowboarded in pow but i can guess that would be similar.

Its hardly the same, but super fun. If you get an opportunity to try it go for it. Just remember to let the boat do the work for you when learning to just get up(no homo), I used to do some work with a buddy of mine (Nick Jones, check him out if ya like wakeboarding) at Bo Lake up near bellingham, Wa, and most girls learn to get up quicker than guys because they are more relaxed and not so ego worried about getting up right away. Once ur up just keep the handle low and although it may seem unnatural, keep your weight balanced between your feet, trust me, once ur up and going you will not be able to push the nose of the board under the water. Hands low and pulled into your lead hip is the biggest thing to remember though. Go out and kill it though, it super fun man and is basically what I spend my entire summer doing.

Yeah hes one of my best friends, grew up with him. We both started wakeboarding at the same time like 8 or 9 years ago behind a 18 foot sea-ray. Needless to say he progressed a bit faster than me, all I can in the same amount of time is a tantrum and 3's, but yeah hes pretty sick, rides for CWB, Bakes Marine, Malibu, Imperial Motion, Jet Pilot and EVO, so he gets hooked up with some serious shit. Seriously, hella jealous that a 22 year old gets a brand new 80,000 dollar Wakesetter to use every year for free. Just get out there and have fun though, its sick plus all the ladies are in bikini's instead of jackets and pants and goggles and the beer flows!

well a 3 and a tantrum would still be awesome to do. idk if you have seen this video, but i was watching another wakeboarding vid. and the guy did a 1080 or 1260? one of those two. and i think its incredible they can still hang on to the rope

Thats the toughest part, not to hard to just throw yourself spinning and land on your board, keepin the handle is the hardest part. Danny Harf is probably the guy ur thinkin of though.

i have to say that wakeboarding was probably one of the easiest sports to learn. but to get good is tough.

Wakeboarding is fun. But wakeskiing looks way better. Yup. Its real in case you haven't heard of it.http://www.hosports.com/category/154226/Wakeskis

I'm sorry but I do not think wakeskis look cool at all, and from what I've seen might be kind of dangerous because I'm not sure if your feet can release from the bindings.

there I said it, I love snow skiing but in the trick department I give it to wakeboarding for coming up with better looking tricks.

and just for fun here is some trick skiing, those guys are ridiculous.

I was at a waterski convention back in March and HO Sports was there with a few pairs of wakeskis. basically they're wakeboard bindings with a slightly different base plate. you can definitely come out of them. you probably wouldn't come out as easily because you don't have the problem of catching an edge like you do on a wakeboard. the thing I'd be worried about is bashing the fuck out of the inside of your shins/ankles when you're learning to spin/throw different tricks.

it hurts sooooooo bad to fall. the water pretty much kills you.

of course i cant swim worth shit.

you should try though i bet anybody could get it,

the riding itself doesnt really carry over that much, it definitely helps to have snowboarded, but ive had friends who are amazing at snowboarding get up on the wakeboard and not be able to turn and catch their edges all the time, and dudes that have never ridden a snowboard get up and cut like theyve been doing it since they were born,

once you get into carving hard it definately starts to feel like snowboarding

the tricks carry over super good though, i started wakeboarding in late july, and by the end of august i had landed heelside backrolls, frontside and backside 360's and grabbed frontside 180's off both sides of the wake, because besides having a handle, its just like snowboarding, when you get into hitting rails, its basically the same too, except it feels really wierd at first because a snowboard can flex, and a wakeboard can flex a little, but not really very much, so it feels super harsh when you hit rails, and the board has a really extreme rocker, so leaning into presses takes practice

not to mention going 23.5 miles per hour hittin a rail...first time I hit one I was scared as fuck, that shit can hurt to fall on.
