ok so i have wakeboarded for a year an im pretty good

i can clear the wake and do grabs

on my hyperlite board it has 2 fins

i is a deep 2.5 and the other is smaller

can i just use the smaller for the back or do i have to ride both or can i go no fins

thanks alot

You need to have fins.. if you try it without fins, it will be all squirlley everywhere. I'm not sure if you should use the bigger one or the little one.. I think that's just personal preference. The bigger one is just so you can carve harder I think.

im so excited for wakeboarding im pretty mcuh at the same state as u ive tried flips adn spins it was very tragic

You can use only one fin if you want.. I don't konw why you would want this... but go ahead.. it will just make it hard to ride switch. If there is a fin in the back, it will be steady, if there is not, it will be squirlley.

well obv i know how to fucking wakeboard casue i can fucking clear the wake off a air nautque and do grabs over it and spin asshole

i just didnt take off the fins so shut the fuck up

How about you calm down? Okay. Instead of constantly bumping this thread, why not just DO IT. Try it for yourself, and tell people if it worked or something.

it takes practice and a little bit of skill to ride no fins, but its better, because you can ride away if you land 90.

you can ride with just a back fin if you want too

If you land 90, chances are you're edge is gonna be going down into the water, and you're gonna eat shit. Riding without fins is maaad squirelly. I've done it, and it's retarded.

landing with fins is really hard because if you are slightly off balance or dont land quite right the board will just shoot out from you. i prefer a shorter fin because the longer ones catch the water easily but its personal preference mostly. Does your board have the molded fins?

u can ride with one fin in back but then it would be weird to be fakie and i rode my wakeskate all summer last yr with out fins and it was fine and i thought it was more fun because u could butter so well

nah they are screw in

i like the stability they have but one is a HUGE fin ,2.5 cutter and the other is a smaller type(which i like)

but can i only use one, which would b squirley switch or should i go none or deep back small front

in stuck on it

its a hyperlite motive with vario bindings

i saw a pic of parks w/o fins so idk what i should do im gettin mixed results

most pros ride no fins. i talked to a pro on this subject, and he said they faded out at about the same time his career did. but pros' boards have molded fins.

if u hav a hyperlite it isnt that hard to go no fins cause the bottom of hyperlite boards are shaped real good. i hav a parks series and i ride no fins for most of the time. which board do u hav? cause if its parks, byerly, or murray u wont hav trouble going no fins or if u hav a state or motive than u could still get by

exactly, i wakeboard with my friend with no fins, its really not that hard, and since u have a hyperlite the bottom of ur board prolly has ridges on the sides, you really dont need a fin at all, learn to ride on the edges of the board instead, you dont go all over the place once u get used to it, first time i got up(i learned w/o fins n like it w/o them) i was all over, but 2nd time i figured out how to keep it straight and in control

i would just use the smaller one, so you get used to carvin on ur edges more n keeping ur speed going into the wake, then try it if you can with an even smaller fin or just none at all

practice makes perfect, keep practicing and you'l be able to ride w/o fins no problem

aight cool

yeah i got little "edges" on the bottom of my board

so it should b all good

i heard its alot more squirly in the begging but after u get it u can butter an shit better

yeah which board you have matters. you will have more control riding around with a fin, but the bigger the fin you have the harder it is to release off the wake for spins, and surface tricks. The majority of pros don't ride with center fins, because most good boards have small molded fins on the front and rear channels of the board. The biggest advantage to riding finless is you can hit sliders and ramps, which is harder to do with a big ol' center fin sticking out. My advice is unless you are hitting rails and jumps, or if you have a board with molded fins, just but some small fins to put on the front and back. If you are still a rec rider i doubt you'll be hitting sliders soon, and having fins will help bail you out on some sketchy landings.

yeah thats what i got

but its hard to spin off the wake wit the big one

so i prolly will try none

and if no likey ill just buy a lil one for them

my old LF board had 3 fins on each side but now my new hyperlite has 1 in the middle and pretty much built in fins on each side. its nice. fins are key or else youll wash out

the main purpose of the screw in fin is stability for when you carve, edge, and land your jumps. if you're trying to learn 180s or 360s, i recommend not using fins, since you can just practice surface tricks to get a feel for the spins. just keep on developing your skills while going finless occasionally in order to work on new spin tricks. after a while you will get a much better feel for it.

oh on a side note, for invert tricks, i prefer having fins for when i learn them since they 'grip' the water when i land.
