Sup NS, im sure a lot of you wakeboard and i am looking to buy a used boat.

if you dont have any input about wakeboarding, wakeboarding boats, buying used boats, etc then get the fuck out now thankyou.

if you are still here, your help is appreciated.

first, what boat should i buy? i have, at most $55,000 and want a decently new boat (no older then 5 years) i will be wakeboarding, waterskiing, everything. my bro is looking at a used mastercraft Xstar or X2. do you guys have mastercraft boats? supra? what boat should i buy?

and second, i have family in the states and dont mind driving down to get a boat, do you think its worth getting one down there and having them drive it up? (to save some money)

and last, do you guys know any good places to buy used boats? (ive looked on kijiji and craigs list) any local marinas or shops? (i live 30 mins away from toronto and the cottage is near bracebridge and huntsville but i dont mind driving)

any info would be nice. we got a cottage on skeleton lake last summer and really need a boat.

NS help me find a boat.

+K ;)

this.

Depends on what kind of lake you're on... If its a pretty big lake x-stars are the shit. you really cant go wrong with mastercrafts.

But I have a Supra 21V and I love it.

alright, you all like this mastercraft Xstar... anyone know a good place to buy? im lurking kijiji and cragslist but if you guys know of any. send me some links, emails or phone numbers. Thanks a bunch NS +K to all of you

and yeah, im on the 5th largest lake in muskoka.

also may be building a zipline. shit is going to be pimp.

my friend has an x9 or x10 i forget which but its dope as fuck and ive seen people on x2 they look like they would get the job done

Thanks a bunch.

And yeah, does anyone know local marinas with these boats?
I live in Ontario, but don't mind driving to save money

Just go to every boat company's website and search for dealers. There are tons of used boats around, and pretty much every wakeboard boat is going to be good. There aren't any "shitty" quality wakeboard boat brands, so you should buy whatever you like the best that suits your needs.

I personally like the B52's (MB boats).

my good buddy in college had an 09 x2 and it was probably my favorite wake boat ive ridden behind. the smaller size makes it easier to weight down and get the wake dialed in how you like it, plus it handles better than the xstar. they still have the pickle fork bow like the xstar which adds a lot more room up front. it all depends on what youre looking for in the wake, malibus have long rampy wakes, nautiques have steep lippy wakes, and mastercrafts are a good inbetween, good kuck hope that helps man

Wakeboard boat technology really hasn't changed too much in the last 10 years, essentially they have only really gained a ballast system and that's it, most are on the same (or at least similar) hull designs that they've had from the mid nineties.

That being said, limiting yourself on 5 years is dumb just because you want a newer boat. Find something with as few hours as you can, good service records, and fits what you need dimension wise. If it doesn't have internal ballast then take the money you saved and buy fat sacks.

Talk to marina's (who are trying to offload inventory this time of year) and get an inspector to check it out before you buy it.

I can give you better recomendations if you can tell me what you are going to use it for. (i.e. serious wakeboarding or just leisure)

I used to work at a Mastercraft dealership, and now work at a place that sells Supras/Moombas.

First, I would never buy a new Mastercraft. They are stupidly overpriced because they think they are badasses. If you really want a new boat I would probably buy a Moomba. People don't give them enough credit. Brand new ones start around $28k.

When I think of a "good" boat, to me that means the engine is reliable, and it makes a good wake. I don't give a shit about anything else because I am on the lake to wakeboard.

Most wakeboard boats use Indmar engines, which are great. (There are also others like MerCruizer, PCM, and others, but they are all comparable).

Next is that all boats put out a crappy wake stock. No matter what. If you are serious at all about wakeboarding, you can't ride a stock boat. You are going to need lots of extra ballast. Then in that case, any boat can be fine tuned with the amount and position of ballast to make the wake awesome. Some need more, some need less, but they can all create an awesome wake. Mastercraft (i.e. expensive) wakes aren't better by any means.

After all I have ridden behind and seen, I would still buy something cheaper like a new, or newer, Moomba. You get everything you need for a retarded fraction of the price of the stuck up competitors. Sure you can get an older Mastercraft for that price, but you are going to have an engine with a few hundred hours on it, which is going to need things replaced much more often.

Mastercraft x stars yeah there overpriced but dont break down as much as other brands. I worked at a marina this year and supra/ nautiques were frequant flyers in gas and repairs when the two guys on mastercrad

Woops sorry. Had more miles and hours on there boat overral this summer. Mastercrafts have the biggest wakes and better double ups than you can imagine. There is a reason it is the official boat of the pwt. / thread

get an epic if you want to get serious about wakeboarding. No frills and 4000 pounds of stock ballast. mmmm

if your looking for a smaller boat (more bang for your buck) check out the mastercraft x7. X stars a miserable to waterski behind, but if you more into wakeboarding then skiing x star is where its at. X7 is a super all around boat. Barefoot, wakesurf slalom whatever. PM me if you have any questions as i have one.

here are a few for sale in my area of muskoka.

I have a mastercraft prostar 205. Its got a decent wake for wakeboarding and when you add some wake, it's just as big as an of the x series boats. The nice thing about it is that at waterski speeds, it throws almost no wake, so you get the best of both worlds.

I don't know where the nearest mastercraft dealer is to you guys, but we bought ours from New England Fresh Water Marine (NEFWM) in MA. They are all mastercraft new and used, and we super chill and professional. Check out their site to get an idea for used mastercrafts and you can probably get some info about close dealers from them

here's a loaded x-2 they've got around your price range. http://www.nefwm.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=09166681X8K13K2011J8I11I54JPMQ2835R0&veh=58525&pov=1738292

I doubt you'll find a new x-star in good shape for 55 grand, but the x-star is pretty much king of wake. make sure you figure out what features you want in the boat too. they have some crazy stuff these days. mechanical towers, built in camera, lcd screens, huge speaker system and lights and of course you'll want to spend a lot on wakeboards, tubes ect.

Sparknotes: I love my mastercraft, check out the link.

sorry for the dubpost, but to show you how reliable and well built mastercrafts are (imo).

my 97 prostar with 700+ hours still runs like new and has never had a big problem with the engine. it's a great starter boat, but you can do much better with 55,000 haha

Just browse. Do you wakeboard, talk to friends. If you have 55k you could buy a ridiculously nice boat.

Smells like a claim thread though

At the marina I worked at they had to be fixed constantly. right at about 430 hours. Both of them. I didn't even work at a saltwater marina. I worked on a lake. I have seen mastercrafts from the early 90's and late 80's in better shape. It is sad how nautiques and malibu boats only work for a couple years. Other than what I just said they would be nice boats.

hey thats sick your getting a boat, you have a nice budget to work with. Many people are suggesting the X Star but I would stay away from it because the surf wake sucks unless you fill it with 3000 pounds of ballast. If I were you I would look into Axis boats, they make two boats the A20 and the A22, they are much cheaper than mastercrafts but they are still a great boat. Be sure to check them out. I personally have 2005 Supra 22ssv and I love it, it throws a huge wake. Maybe make a thread in a wakeboard forum such as wakeworld. Im sure whatever you buy will work out great. Good Luck.

thats awesome bro, search www.searchtempest.com it pulls all the clist adds out and onto one screen for faster searching. i wouldnt do it through a marina because they always have high prices. umm check ebay and ski-it-again.com in the winter when all the skiiers are sellin their boats. its reallly depends what you want, if you want a slalom ski boat, your never going to get a parfect wake out of a cross over but it depends, if you want a wake boat and a ski boat, get an x2 they seem to be legit for it. also take into consideation, where you run it, i bought a 94 centurion falcon cause i ski, but the way the hull is shaped it cant take waves to save its LIFE! and im on the 1000 islands up in canada so i can only drive it early in the monrning or at dusk but thankfully we have 3 other boats and seadoos and standups haha

bump.

im leaning towards a used mastercraft because i dont mind paying some extra to have a reliable boat and it sounds like they are.

X2, X7, Xstar

thanks

As I said. All Mastercrafts, except for the past year of 2, use Indmar engines. Most Supras, Moombas, Malibus, and some years of others also use Indmar. I work at a parts counter and sell the parts for all these boats. Tige's mostly use PCM, which is kinda shitty, only because getting parts from them isn't easy, and aftermarket companies don't make a lot of stuff for them. MerCruizer is all that is left (used by a bunch of other brands/years) and they are very good engines. They also have almost every part for them offered by aftermarket companies, which saves a lot of money.

They are all very comparable when it comes to engine reliability. But when you break a boat specific part, (underwater gear, interior pieces, etc) you are going to be paying the most for a Mastercraft part. Malibu is kinda high too but not too bad. Others will almost always be cheaper simply due to the name.

Just my input. Like I said anything can have a great wake, so you will be happy no matter what.

what lake are you on man? ive been here on rosseau near windermere for almost 2 months. as for boats, my uncle has had a mastercraft ski boat for like 10 years. i dont know a tone about boats but he doesnt have to have a lot of work done on it annually and its a still a dope boat.
