Wake Surfing?

hey does anyone on here wake surf?... ive seen people do it but ive never done it, is it all the hype or not?

and im looking for a cheap landlock...cuase there arent any on ebay
 
ive wake surfed. it fun and def. something to do when you dont want to wakeboard or you have too many people in the boat. its the best when you get to big ass boats with good ballist (sp) system to really sink the back and you ride in the middle of both. the wave is usually about 4 or 5 feet high. sick
 
yeah its definitely fun to do when its too choppy to ride, and yeah you can use a normal surfboard, but its a small wave, so you want something thats small and manuverable it would be fun to take a longboard and jut fucking chill on the wake for like an hour, you would never lose it and you coul just keep going and going and going
 
yeah i wake surf when i cant regular surf. its really fun, this summer was the first summer that i really got good at it and now i can basically do all the tricks i dont on my surf board, on my wakesurf board. things like 180s, 3's, tail presses, snap turns. things like that. man do i love it tho...
 
wakesurfing is great. like everyone has said its a nice diversion wen the water is too choppy to board but its also just fun to go out for the sole purpose of wakesurfing and get some good long sets in. you can go for hours. i have a wakesurf specific board. its 5'4". i would not suggest gettin the landlock. if you are looking for something aroung that price range and from hyperlite then get the broadcast 5'6". for that price range you cant beat it. youll realize tho after you do it a few times that you want a better board and you will end up gettin a nice hand made one that is probably a little smaller. just my .02. out of curiosity wat kind of boat do you have?
 
uhh thats acctaully what i have now... i have a broadcast.. and its sick.

It takes alot of work to get the wake just perfect but i can do it now and its soo much fun.
 
yeah^ whats he talking about? i saw some people wakesurfing doubles one time and it looked like fun. they were like slapping fives and everything... i like wakesurfing cuase u can carry a conversation with someone while u are riding.
 
i can do it all right my firnd is so good with no rope he can switch sides adn everything si we can go doubles next tie im there he has bith sides down perfect

 
im buyin a board next season. i got tired of wakeboarding and now i strictly wakeskate and i've been told wakesurfing is dope

 
wow this thread made me feel like a total newb. i've been skurfing for the past 6 years of my life or so and thats just surfing behind a boat with a surf board and holding onto the line, how is it possible to let go of the line and keep with the wave, i was skurfing my 5'10" retro and that thing wouldnt even stay with the wave, and its fat. What could someone fill me in
 
ballast the boat more heavily one one side than the other so you get a big wake on port/passenger side.

Drive slow (10-15)

get up with a rope, toss it on board and surf...

Don't do it too long in a boat without side exhaust pipes because you'll get headaches from the carbon monoxide and you can die.

5-10 is kinda big though... you're going to be only a couple feet behind the boat.

don't do it with an outboard.
 
oh that sucks cant do it, ive done whipp'ns to ferry wakes on a ski, but those only last a good 25 yrds, and i dont have ballast tanks on my whaler so ill stick with skurfing and reall surfing
 
ArmadaJH if u dont have ballast just get some weights and some fat chicks to all sit on the very back port side of the boat. and then you just gotta hold your short rope and get used to riding...

Lean forward= Gas/Go

Lean Back= Break/Slow

u just gotta feel around and watch your rope to see where there is slack and try to balance there...and find the "sweet spot"
 
it's super fun. one time we filled 2200 pounds in the ballasts on ONE corner and then 6 of us sat there so it was like 3500 pounds in one corner of the boat. the wake was nipple height!!
 
buy fatsacks and put them both on one side - I think a good set is about 600lbs per sack..

And since your boat is going to be super low in the water, get your bilge pump checked out so you don't sink
 
I hate driving when people are surfing... the boat is basically doing a wheelie...and sitting side ways... and it doesnt turn good... but when its your turn to ride it was all worth it.
 
yeah ill stick with my version its more fun like actually surfing a wave, what u guys are doing seems more like surfing a slow flat crumbly wave, and if i trim up all the way i get a decent size wake, and that beats buying ballast tanks and food to make my friends fat
 
i am pretty pro at wake-surfing...its way fun except it eventually gets a little old, ive heard about different boards where you can do spins and stuff tho, myn is just a little surfboard that i carve up on. its way fun just to surf without the rope for a long time
 
i really wanna try, I just need a boat to use, we've got a boat to use that's fine for wakeskatin and wakeboarding, cept theres no tower, we need a REAL wake boat, but my friend and i dont have 50 g's lyin around, and i'm only at my cottage for like 2 weeks a year
 
ive done it, i can ride but cant through any tricks. if you are pro its like insane
 
yeah i know im holding a rope but it sounds like what your doing is like surfing a slow crumbly wave, w/e either way its fun but we would all rather surfing instead
 
yeah i've seen people do it with gigantic longboards. like 12 ft. long crazy. and they were good too!! i dont know it was pretty cool i quess... where would you keep a board that big on your boat??
 
has just been made illegal in utah you cannot pull or ride any object within 20 feet of the furthest point back on the boat tickets are now being issued...... could become a trend in other states........
 
^ people riding behind outboard boats getting shit munched off by the prop basically people being dumbshits ruining it for the rest of us
 
are you kidding? the only place i do it is in lake powell....

but on the other hand i guess cliff jumping is illegal too so i dont think it will stop me
