WA Initiative I-957: Married = Kids

So check this out, I found it somewhat amusing...

In Washington State (home!) theres a initiative on the ballots. Basically, the initiative is this:

"Couples married in Washington file proof of procreation within

three years of the date of marriage or have their marriage automatically annulled"

At first, you may think that this is crazy. Second glance... yeah, still crazy. Who would support this, you may ask? Seems like something aimed against allowing gay marriages, right? And you'd be right... until you saw who's supporting it. Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance. And they're against the ban on gay marriage in our state.

I for one actually will be supporting this initiative. By actually enforcing the ruling our state gave to its reason against allowing gay marriages (They basically said its a legitimate state interest to limit

marriage to those couples able to have and raise children together...) with this series of initiatives (Next up - Banning Divorce if there is a child, #3: Having a child = legal marriage between parents), the state will have to repeal its ruling and hopefully allow gay marriages in Washington. Cool idea, eh?

And yeah, I'm totally a raging homosexual because I support gay marriage. Thanks!

You know that was thought up by some fucked up "Christian" (but not really) piece of shit that goes to those rallies thanking God for dead soldiers.

I fucking hate religion.

uhh, let's see; this freedom thing? I can't think of anything more 'free' than being able to present whatever idea you want (however crazy it may be) and get it to the ballots so people can vote on it.

so what if the idea is discriminatory? (well ya, it's nor right) but for somebody to be able to take their OWN ideas and put them into action so that people can collectively vote on it (democracy! yay!) is great. Whether he's proposing this idea BECAUSE it's discriminatory is between him and his maker, but I personally think it's great that somebody has the freedom to make a proposal and get it voted on.

i hope it opens some eyes...

i still don't understand how this government can openly discriminate against gays but at the same time hold them to all the other BS i.e. taxes... yay lets give my hard earned money to the government that continues to hold me as a second class citizen.

I think people missed the point.... This initiative is supported by a lot of gay rights groups because its showing that the State has no legitimate reason not to legalize marriages for all couples.

Did anyone flaming this thread even read the entirity (sp?) of Rekkers first post? If you didn't maybe you'll get it.

I'm not saying all gay rights groups, careful. But a few have backed this with enthusiasm. Its basically an affront to the state after they ruled this summer that basically they get to decide and regulate marriages because marriage involves procreation. By supporting this initiative and getting the lawmakers to eat their own words, its going to bring the light the injustice of such a ruling and make the state either give us a better ruling or allow marriages for all.

basicaly those who apose gay marriage would be for marriage of heterosexuals, however by the fundamentals of the church, marriage and procreation are supose to be cuppled (in otherwords if you don't plan on having a child after getting married, you shouldent get married)

what this is doing is forcing people to realize that what they believe marriage should be and what the church claims marriage should be/can be different so it is OK for people to support marriage without kids, as is it ok to suport gay marriage.

maybe theyre so bitter about not getting gay marriage allowed, they want to fuck with the straight people too?

its not that they are fucking with straight people, its that the state will now implement laws that go both directions in the terms of 'protecting marriage'
