VW VR6 GTI (or an outback)

i'm getting a new car, that much is certain. and after not a whole lot of thinking i've determined that there are only two remotely intelligent choices in this universe: a volkswagen vr6 gti or a subaru outback. obviously these aren't exactly the same kind of cars. one is small, agile, quick, 2 door, 2 wheel drive and somewhat expensive to repair. the other is large, kind of momish, anything but aggresive, reliable as fuck and extremely easy to take care of, it doesn't require premium gas either.

i've driven the outback (my friend has one) and today i went and drove the 2000 gti (fuckin rallied that shit, thank god for a cool car salesman). i pretty much fell in love with it and i think i'm gonna go for the gti...

is there anyone who owns a gti or knows someone very closely who's had one. i'm just looking for some personal experience that could lean in the way of advice. what can you tell me.

obviously i don't need to hear any crap about why camaros kick the shit out of gti's, or that outbacks take longer to hotbox - i need some advice here. i also don't wanna hear about it if you have an ancient one (as dope as they may be).

you should be so lucky as to be reading this.

my momma's got an 03' outback. It's a 4 cylindar, which kinda sucks to be at 3500 rpm at 75mph, but the 6 wouldnt do that. Subaru's are kick ass, even if they are mom cars. Don't get the auto tho. Auto's suck.

used r32? why of course, let me just run out to the back garden and shake down the money tree. in fact fuck that, i'll just go for the NOS-free hpr edition which does 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds.

hey man i own a vr6 gti and i would go for that i have driven the outback too. I have had no problems with my car and love it

so get a 2 door impreza. i was close to getting a 98 GTI when the bastard sold it right before i showed up....... so i've got a 5 speed, 2 door, 96 impreza. 1.8L engine kinda sucks, but the 4wd + small car make it handle and drive like crazy...... it handles better than a GTI, and if you can find one with a 2.2L engine, or one of the turbo STI engines, even better.

now that i read your post, i'd say get a 98 GTI. I test drove the 4cyl, but i'm pretty sure that's the year before 93 octane was required in VW's. So, a 98 VR6 would be fast, sweet, and cheap to fill up. (I think.) and you can take the couple grand you save and pimp it out.

GTI = SICK

subaru = SICK

doesn't matter dude, either is a super nice car

however the gti is probably faster unless you get a wrx or sti. but you cant fit as much stuff in a gti as you can fit in a suby

Buy German, you can't go wrong, but if you do buy an import... hehehe... then get a wrx... wagon

yeah i bought the gti. 2001 with 11k on it for fucking 14,975. thats brand new. so anyway, i'm on the freeway today and i'm moving, i'm like 'shit, i should slow down i really can't afford a ticket.' i look down, i'm doing a 100. it feels like i can't be doing more than 75. the car is sick. it corners well, its fast off the line, it looks good, it smells good. the best part is, morons everywhere try to race with me and i always destroy them. i think i might add an after market intake and exhaust add like 20 to 25 horsepower.

Reccomendations:

WRX Wagon

Baja Turbo

Matrix XRS

Thse three have the closest performance to the VW GTi, but still have the room to haul your skis and/or other outdoor gear. Both Subarus (WRX and Baja) are AWD - the Martrix is FWD.

hell no, go get a Subaru Impreza(a good one, 2.5 mabe or wrx)! Impreza's will kick a GTI's ass so hard. Especially in snow.

small block 350 running at 12/1 compression pushing out over 400 horse easy. 5.7 liters, ohhhhhhhh god orgasm. sorry.

well, the GTI i was going to buy got sold......... so i got a 2 door subaru impreza. 96 with 88kmi for $5k. It'd decently fast, and handles better than the GTI. so I'm happy. Your VR6 GTI would easily beat me, granted........ but i still like mine!

all volks are good to drive, but are shit in the long run, after 2 years max your electrical will let go, your engine will start to fuck up. unless you are ready to spend alot on parts, go with the subaru. plus it's all wheel drive, alot easier to get to the moutain. a friend of mine got a brand new A4 1.8t (same engine as a volks) and the oil pump let go after 2 months. all the jettas 1.8t had a callback for that reasonm

yeah...VW's not lasting. Are you on crack son?

my best friend has a sick 20th anniversary edition GTI, he loves it, though he's got an suv to drive to the mountains in...

If you're not gonna drive to the mts too much, id go with the GTI, if so, the Subaru (as much as i generally detest subies)

haha isnt all Volkswagen cars manufactured in Germany, except for Passat and that SUV..

Mexican assembled cars = cheap and shitty quality.

I mean manufactured in Mexico, sorry me and my friends just finished 3 fat blunts.
