anyone else into modding their cars? i have a two door golf. im looking to put in a performance chip and new seats, as well as get new tires and eventually new brakes and suspension. whats everyone done to their dubs?

i almost got a GTI..... but some fucker bought it half an hour before i came back with the money.

so I ended up with a 2 door subaru impreza. 96, 95k miles currently. needs new struts........ which basically translates into 'i'm going to put an STI grade suspension in'. it's only a 1.8L though, so engine mods are pretty much worthless. so i'm going to slap that suspension in there, mabye drop $100 on some new speakers, and call it pimp. and mabye buy some gold/silver rally rims to really make the car.

Haha....I guess you could call my car 'modded'. I'm sure you've all seen it in other threads but here it is again. 1983 Buick Century, mmhmm.

Mods:

-Pioneer DEH-6400 CD Player

-Lightning Audio 6x9's

-Red neons under dash and dome lights

-Red neon rigged as a center brake light

-Otto Racing aluminum spoiler

-Ractive shift knob (for auto, haha)

-Ractive dual exhaust tip

-Rainbow colored fun-fur around seats

yah...my car is stock, but it's got stock bose and is by far the fastest car i have drove. Warning: the golf (unless the 1.8t) really won't be that fast, but it will be nice sounding, dependable, and quick. BTW my car is a 94' seville STS 32v northstar, hopefully I'll put some mufflers, k&n and maybe some 20s on it...maybe

wxfixx.com will help you out, dubs are fun to tune but they have some major advantages and disadvantages, i almost bought a vr6 but the extra weight of the engine versus the hp cancel out as it doesnt turn nearly as well.

I currently have a integra with a motor swap into her, full intake, exzauhst, short shifter, short geared tranny, lowered; rims and cams are coming this summer,

^ahhhhhh. NO.

Its not the weight addition that you have to worry about, its the additional torque. Thats why when swapping a VR into a 2 liter body, you should swap axles as well (4-lug to 5-lug)

As far as modding, my Jetta has H&R coils, Chip, Hella Dual rounds, FK badgeless 2-bar grille, Euro Rad support, GTI hood conversion, votex long fogs, smoked corners and blinkers, GT tails, Euro-plate tub, LSD, lightened flywheel, Euro lip, Euro light switch, magnaflow exhaust...eh, thats all I can think of. 172,XXX miles and going strong.

But yeah, vwvortex is your best resource for parts as well as info.

you missed the hartford car expo by a day or two. my cousin got a whole system for $158. he got 2 500watt subwoofers for $35 each. even if they blow or stop after a while, for only $35, it doesnt matter.

yeah you do need new axels but try driving a 1.8t and a vr6 and tell me which one turns better, torque isnt everything, my teg will take cars with waaay more torque, although its fun to sit and spin especially with rear wheel drive

i have an 88 jetta that i might eventualy do stuff to, my friend has a 96 he has intake, neons, subs, muffler, idk what else, im havin my subs put in this week. maybe ill get some tips from my friend who did his, its so nice

i dont really want to tune the engine much, i drive fast enough as it is. im not going to swap engines, this one only has aout 80000. it's a 96 cl, which is the euro model so parts might not work with it. all im doing to the engine is a chip, im more concerned with suspension and brakes and tires.

It has way more power and looks better than my mom's Jetta.

Also much better for going skiing.

what are some solid suspension companies, and what's an estimate as to how much i should spend on quality suspension? nothing rediculous, just something noticable nicer than stock.

Subaru wrx STI with a drop kit and compression injection package, 2 subs under the seats and last but not least a clifford 550 alarm ENgine rebuild w/ titanium cam shaft and race spark plugs :P need anything more?

if you want to lower your car just buy springs they are a shite load cheaper then coilovers and work just as well, tien springs are super soft so if you just want the look theyll do but performance wise they are nothing special, i have neuspeed sport, but i have heard good things about eibach sportline, dont know if they do vw's

oh and does this car look real enough for ya twin tip wonder, and i love the skylines but its illegal to import anything newer then 15 years in Alberta, r33s are just good but i want a r34 grrrr

R32 would be sweet, a pudgy mofo, but sweet nonetheless. how 'bout this shit...my dad works for a porsche/audi dealer in philly (and no we're not rich and he doesn't buy me anything, but yeah...) and this guy came in to the parts dept. asking if my dad could import a 2.7T A4 engine for him. he said sure but for lots of $$. the guy came in to pick it up when it arrived and it turns out he was planning on dropping it into a 90-something golf. the guys all thought he was insane, but he came back 2 months later and popped the hood on this little hatchback and there's a 2.7T engine sitting there in the bay. i guess the guy had to destroy all the bracing under the hood to get it there, but he re-supported it and made it work somehow. he flashed around a timeslip from his first drag run...10.90...'stock' engine only. damn, power to weight on that thing must be insane.

Even putting the 4.2T engine from an A6 into an A4 would be fast as shit.

yeah, the 4.2T would be incredibly badass in an A4, it's twin-turbo. my dad got some super huge deal on a post lease A6 quattro with the 4.2, that thing got up and freakin' went. it was natural too, no turbo. i think the 4.2T is only in the new RS6 and the A8, but i could be wrong

 
Looking at the audi site... no turbo on the A6.

But the A4 still weighs like 700 lbs less.

oh hell yeah. and i think german cars would be the way to go...luxury and power. i got hooked on 'em when i was like 10. it was one of those 'take your kid to work' days...sat in a black 911 turbo and played with the radio til it was time to go home! fun shit

 
That 2.7T motor is simply an S4 or A6 motor which can be found in the states. The 4.2 in A6's and A8's has no turbo, its just a V8.

R32... now what a amazing car. Did anyone see the article in car and driver last year? You can order the R32 from the factory with 660hp. A twin turbo vr6 that is all wheel drive and would blow any other import away.

i dont want to lower my car. it sits low anyways. i dont feel like driving diagonally into driveways. my friend fucked up his oil pan drivin fast in his lowered golf. i just want better siuspension
