VT open train

you got it buddy.. thats why the train got rediculous, i think stratton needs to act a bit more professional and spot the differences between the US OPEN and the VT OPEN
 
if the vto doesnt happen at stratton next year, killy or mt snow are bound to hold a "vto" like comp. maybe even wv or somthin, or okemo. you have to see the reality of it, as much as they hate it, they are still gonna run it, cause just like people said its the money, if they say no, then another resort will just hold a comp and they will make money instead. itd just be stupid for stratton to not run the comp next year
 
If you keep making all of these restrictions, people who are core will stop coming.

Be happy that your mountain is getting any hype at all, the only reason people on NS (who arent from east coast)even care about stratton right now is because of this dope ass train that happened there so STFU
 
as a stratton skier (sad i know) i have to say i'm really proud of that train. Sadly i wasn't there for it, ( my rents wouldnt let me come up and miss 3 days of school) but im sure it will be remembered for a while to come as the most fun anybody's had in that park all year because it was pretty weak this year, and its not just because of the snow. There was a 55 footer set up in Byrneside where the first jump is now... but they basically got rid of it. I just hope if the VTO is still at stratton next year we can all be part of a train that the mountain can appreciate and be proud of instead of just getting pissed off.
 
Can't see it at Killy, besides thier park quality was way down hill this year compared to last at the same time. Too early for Peaks to step up and do a VTO at Snow.. but maybe.... Peaks is VERY park orientated. I hear good things about Loon. It was our first trip to Stratton and of all the comps we went to this year, it had a weird (not in a good way) vibe from the resort.

It started the minute we went to the Main Lodge ticket and asked about the location of registration for the VTO and we were told that it was over. I tried to explain "freeskiing open" finally got an answer.
 
Yeah they really do. Waterville would be sick also because of the rope tow... but it'd be too short of a course I think.
 
Okay just to clear some things up I talked to my buddy who works in upper management at stratton and hears what he told ( he thought the train was awesome too so dont flip out ) :

-ahmet was tackled on the big air-which is i still think was uncalled for-b/c they asked for his "Creditials" (whatever that means) and he didnt have any and just walked away, patrol flipped then you kno the rest.

-word of the train didnt even get most of employees of stratton just the rowdiness of the park being poached. yes thats right kids the park was never opened in the first place to begin wit. It supposed to be closed all day to prepare for the weekend like most big resorts do. Park crew was pissed cuz they were going to re-set everything and fix it up.

-the park crew was not fired. they were just yelled at a bunch and really pissed off.

in general it was weird cuz at first when i told my friend that works there about a friend of mine getting tackled on the big air he acted like he didnt hear about it but then when we started talkin some more he just started to defend stratton and explained to me what really happened with ahmet. I mean i guess this is normal but it seems weird, seems like theres something he isnt tell me. Overall, he also told me how the behavior and rowdiness from the US Open is what really ruined it for the vt open....so basically the event organizers were alreayd pissed dealing with the boarders and we just got the belt of the step father from em.

OH YEAH and one more thing who ever critisized Ross Powers in all of this better shut up. Just because hes sponsored by the mountain doesnt mean he stands for what stratton stands for. Ross is the fuckin man, such a humble kid.

I don't understand why Stratton flipped a bitch about this still.

Byrneside was open. I took laps on it before the train started.

Once the train started they were getting pissed...for what reason? just us being to close?

The only problem I see with the train was that kids did duck the rope AFTER they closed the park.
 
i don't know where you get your information from but your friend in upper managment has a lot of it wrong

1st: byrnside park (where the train took place) was open all day. i rode it all morning before the trains took place and never ducked a rope. i have never heard of a resort closing a park to "prepare for the weekend" when the park isn't the one with the comp on it. that would just be stupid.

2nd: there was no rowdiness from the US open at all. i don't know where that came from but that comp was run fine and went off fine. if anything stratton would have been pissed by the US open because no fans showed up to watch, not because of any rowdiness.

also, i do agree the vto was run by complete retards. kelly and chrissy (the chick that was the starter) are both bitches and absolutely suck a running anything. hopefully both of them will be relieved of thier duties next year and the guy "turk" will be taking over. for those that remember turk at the start gates he rules and will be much better at running comps
 
has anything like this actually EVER happend anywhere, it sounds like a pretty orriginal event, and freakin epic too
 
there was some misbehavior on the athletes of the us open on their part. my friend is manager at the stratton mountain club and meets weekly with the vp of operations. According to him that park was closed and to be set for the weekend. Thats what he told me.....someone could hav easily moved the rope considering it was vt open week and everyone wants to ski park. Most mountains especially stratton close their park to get it ready for the weekend. I have been to stratton several times when the mountain is fine and byrnside was closed cuz they were prepping it for the weekend. I'm not talkin about the way the us open was run im saying how the cooperation of the athletes went. They pushed strattons buttons too far -it makes perfect sense because of how uptight they were.
 
sorry man, but no one moved the rope, they had the big park closed, and the other mini park closed, but they left up byrnside so we only had a mini park for slopestyle competitors and all other competitors to practice in... but byrnside was open for sure until ski patrol closed it from the trains
 
^^^ naaaaaaa the athletes did not push Strattons button too far.. it was the other way around. I wonder, is this the first event they ever put on? In some ways it seemed like it, even though it obviously wasn't thier first event.

You don't bring 200 testosterone laden teenage athletes together for 5 days with nothing to play on. It was bad enough that they limited course use due to conditions and on top of that, most of the parks were closed. That particular park was open first thing in the morning, fully groomed, I know, I was there, first AM. Put a hundred super talented extreme sports enthusiasts together with free time and what do you think will happen?

Even silly little parking lot rail jams know that they have to have more than just the comp rail to keep kids entertained. Seems to me that you reap what you sow.
 
That was epic.

The VTO will more than likely stay at Stratton. I mean when you're bringing in a few big names then that will give you some good coin. I think that the park crew is to blame. Take the X Games for example. Theres been no problems there with off the main course stuff in the little parks because they can keep everyone happy and Stratton didn't this year.
 
wow what a riot.i say they were right in closing the park down but next time they just gotta back off singling out ppl and letting it go...maybe clip the leaders pass idk

so funny tho and its pointless to argue over the internet about something in the past.
 
nope. it was open all day. we skied it without any problems at all. the park rangers in it never said anything or the ski patrol. your source is wrong
 
I love this thread!

For what it's worth:

-Sunbowl slopestyle course will mos def NOT be open again this season. The warm temps and rain really melted out and wrecked the features.

-The sypincer person is not me, just been away and busy with planning for next season.

-In the talks about next season the "issues" of VtOpen were brought up and discussed. The future is def uncertain but no decisions have been made either way.

-The 2 Open events make Stratton no money and are infact a huge expense. Yes, the resort gets coverage, exposure, and it brings people to the mtn. However, the money made in no way offsets the costs brought on by hosting and setting up the events. And the exposure isn't always positive...

-Stratton is owned by Intrawest/Fortress. Because it is a corporation ALL of our income goes to them and then they decide how much we will get back for capital improvements, buying new things and such. It is a shock how little they actually give back to the individual dept's to spend.

-The Ross Powers deal (with parks) ended 2 seasons ago. I guess he has some deals going on with the mtn or marketing still, but not like it used to be.
