Voting/Electoral Votes....Why Vote If I know my candidate is not going to get the pop vote?

So I want to vote for Obama but I'm in a state that is a McCain favorite. It's predicted that McCain will win the popular vote without a doubt. So why vote? I mean if the president was elected by the overall popular vote, then I could see why it would be important to vote. But if McCain wins the pop vote as expected, that means that my states electoral votes will go for McCain, and my Obama vote will have no meaning. So why do people even bother voting if they know their candidate is not going to get the states pop vote?

 
we learned about people like you in my gov. class.....................every vote counts, and it's wrong that you have a freedom to vote and you don't even appreciate it..........just vote...it's once every 4 years, so it's not gonna kill you to take 20 minutes outta your day

but honestly vote for whoever you want, dont be driven by the fact that you should vote for mccain because everyone else in your state is. vote for obama if you want to.
 
then explain to me how my vote counts? my state has i think 5 electoral votes....mccain wins the pop vote and the electors are supposed to vote in favor of the people, but they actually don't have to if they want to go the other way...so those 5 electoral votes go towards mccains overall electoral votes, and those obama votes don't mean anything.
 
cali is a strong obama state...

and okay if mccain wins your state your vote doesnt count. but maybe your vote will put obama in the lead. just maybe...
 
so maybe its the favorite right now. polls can be wrong. maybe your vote will be the vote to push it in obamas favor. just vote.
 
there are a few epic moves of legislature that have been won by one vote

you never know what might happen

plus if you have a "i voted" sticker, you get free ice cream from Ben and Jerry's
 
I live in Utah, no matter what McCain is going to win, I'm easily not going to vote although i am politically involved, the electoral college is messed up.
 
We should just do away with the electoral college. How retarded is it that a presidential candidate can win the popular vote but lose the election? Doesn't make sense.
 
Agreed yet when i researched it, there are not too many other better ideas that have been suggested, and the govornment is scared that one state with outnumbered votes like california could make the election. they don't want a state from having too much power over the executive branch.
 
I agree the electoral college is outdated and should not be used anymore. Where did you see that McCain is goin to win the popular vote because everything ive seen says hes goin to get destroyed in the popular vote.
 
Utah, republican for life, yet colorado republican vote for 43 years is 9 points ahead on obama, correct me if i'm wrong.
