Volkl Walls?

Right now I'm planning on buying 169 Volkl Walls along with boots and bindings which I'm undecided on, I also considered Rossi Ghettos and Salomon Thrusters

I ski in Minnesota for about 20 days/year so it's icy, I'm probably 70% park, 30% groomers here (almost always riding switch)

I also ski various other places (real mountains) for about 8 days/year, I don't touch the parks at all

I'm 5' 10" and 145-150 pounds, beginner-intermediate in park but I've been skiing more and more park lately, and advanced in most other areas that I've had a chance to ski

I won't even bother asking about boots until I get to a bootfitter

Is the 169 Wall a good fit?

What bindings would work well? PX 12 Jibs?

Any other ideas on skis or bindings you have would be appreciated too

you want something longer then 169 if your 5'10. and yeah look px's rossi axials or fks they all work great. you can usually find a pair of bindings on here for pretty cheap.

I'm kinda hesitant to move up from 169 because I usually ski either groomers or park, and I'm still a beginner-intermediate in park

I would deffenitly go up the next size, like 175 or what ever it is. Once you start getting better in the park your going to deffenitly want that extra ski under you... I made this same mistake once and now Ive had to pay for it. Im the same size as you and I have 178 anthems now which I love.

same, i made the mistake of goin to short when i was startin out, once you improve, and you will quick, your gonna be like daaamn it why are these so tiny, plus you cant go as fast which is no fun.

I went from 165, 06 troublemakers to 178 anthems and I like the anthems size way better. So much faster and way more control in the air. The tip of your ski should curve around your head when your standing straight up.

hahaha but that's the reason i'm getting new skis now that i finally have the money

i just dont know if i could handle 177's even though everyone here so far has said i should

You would love it, mount it up true center and it will feel like its shorter than 177. As far as bindings, out of those three choices, i would go with the look. But personally i would buy a pair of salomon 914's or sth 16's if you can afford them.

I'm 5"8 130 and i have the 169s.. And i think i that they are a good size for me.. but you got a bit more height and weight so 177 would be good for you.. i'm still not sure i picked the right size.. such a sick ski though, i would definately go for the wall over the thruster and the ghetto.. but i would say that because thats what i picked

so i basically have the ideal wall setup youre lokkin for- im 5'9, 165 lbs and ride the 177 walls center mounted. they are incredible, great on steeps and awesome switch due to the symmetry. AND i also put the look px12 jib wides on them, which rule. Probly the best bindings ive ever owned, better than salomon of marker easily. So yea, id go for the 177s, center mount them, and shred. Good Luck.

haha i just bought the px12 wide jibs before i read this, probably less than 2 minutes ago

they were $150 on evogear.com

nice man!! good deal on them too, theyre usually like 200 ish kinda. good luck with your mounting etc.

its the best one ive skied on, and ive skied on like 25 park skis from a bunch of companies in the last month at demoes- jesters are deece, but id look at looks or salomon z12s for bindings- my friend broke 2 pairs of jesters in 2 days. hm.

im gunna go out on a limb here and say u read that in Freeskier's buyer's guide, but anyways, i am 5'10 also, and i weight around 155-160, i have the volkl walls ina 177. Definetly get the 177's, i found that volkl ski actually run shorter, so these will feel a tad bit smaller than they actually are, and especially if u will mount them true center, i could have easily handled the 185's if i new how short volk runs. My only dislike about the ski, is the stiffness of it, i wish it was a tad bit softer, but thats also becausemy last pair of skis were Armada t-halls.

im 5'7"-8" somewhere inbetween and i didnt know if i should get 169s orr 177s and i got the 77s they are kinda hard to spin with but for you they are a good length, and i would get the jesters they work really god with mine, and are light.

I'm 5'8-9 and 135.. i have the 169s and they are probably the best ski i ever owned.. took em out in a foot of fresh today because my elizabeths had about 7 inches of base missing and they were really solid.. dropped a few 10-20 footers on them and they handled it well.. they are pretty solid on piste not as poor at high speed as the thruster.. great switch only fault is i find them a little stiff to butter.. for your size i would get the 177 though...

i wouldn't get walls there so stiff it's impossible to butter on them and tons of people have had problems with the bindings ripping out and the ski breaking

I'm probably going to buy Walls for next year. I also heard they measured short. I'm 5'9, 5'10 on a good day and between 175lbs and 180. I'm on the fence between the 177s and 184s... given that I weigh more than you, would you suggest stepping up to the 184s?

9 cm is not a very big step up in size. You should definitely go with 177s, especially since they are symmetrical and will be center mounted, making them feel shorter than they are. for an idea, a 17 cm difference is a little more than 6 inches, so its really not that much difference. Also if you're going to grow you will want them longer and if you're going to get better you will want them longer.

i have them. you can butter easily but they are quite poppy too. and i have never met anyone who has snapped a wall and would make a bet that mine wont.
