Volkl Wall

I'm looking at getting some Volkl Walls, but I'm having a hard time deciding on which length to get. I'm 5'10 175lbs-180lbs. I'd say either the 177's or 185's. I ski park the most, but do hit the whole mountain. I should also mention I live in MN, so powder/BC is nonexistent.

I'm also deciding between the Jester's or STH16's for bindings. The Jester's seem pretty innovative, but I currently have Markers which are total crap--about as durable as a paper clip held on the ski with Elmer's glue.

Any advice would be appreciated!

the wall should be good for you

i saw the duke binding at volkl intro day in ontario last winter and it's awesome. the only difference between the jester and the duke is that the duke has an integrated touring plate in it.

you'll be in good shape with either the sth or the jester

First off, the Walls are sick and I used mine at camp of champs this summer. I'm 6'0" 170 lb and I bought the 177 and they're the perfect length for me. I ski in the East as well and I really don't think you need that extra length...just my opinion

As for the bindings I have no experience with the Jester or STH-16...but I can tell you that I went with the Salomon z12's and they're perfect. Their the lightest binding on the market, look great, haven't prereleased once, and you can get them for a good deal.

they sound really nice, like a stiffer anthem i guess. better for west coast, but i guess they'd be great east coast too.

Get the 177, you don't need the extra length, i wouldn't think.

dude in mn you won't need the extra length if you're only 5'10'' just get the 177 and go with the sth16 binding, so light. and with the walls you're gonna have a way light setup. the only problem i see with the walls is that they're wayyyy stiff, i think that the bridge is a cooler ski, a little wider, softer, lighter. but the wall would be amazing for landing switch. the nose is so stiff that you would stomp the shit out of everything and never butter out on the landing.

go to pinewskis and pick some walls up. they just got them in and they're sick.

just gotta man up son.^ as for the person who started this thread, I'm 6'0 185 n i rode the dogen 178's last year n absolutely loved them. Dunno what kind of changes they made this year, but i know that the wall took the place of the dogen, so i would assume u would be legit with a 177.

ummmm im pretty sure the bridge is stiffer than the wall. the wall is a park ski and is softer than the bridge because its an all mountain and pow ski..... but someone correct me if im wrong. i remember flexing both in a store and i remember the wall being much softer. hell, my karmas are almost as stiff as my rossi race skis with a metal plate on them.

i loooooooooooove my volkl walls, i rode them this summer at momentum, and theyre soooo nice, defenitely a little stiffer than what i had before (Dynastar TM's the green ones with the eyes) they held up well on rails, and were really solid for jumping, eithe of those bindings would be good on the wall

185's dude it's a cemetrical ski, center that shit. you can handle it for sure.

And for the thread starter i would go with the 177's im like the same size and i loved that ski in that size.

I would say the 177s, but I think the 185s would be fine, especially if you do alot of big jumps and all mountain, you have more ski under you. Those are definitely a great choice of ski, and for bindings, the Jesters are looking sick. The Salomon's are supposed to be really good and they are light, but I have some 2 year old s810s that cracked all around the screw holes, part of the heelpiece baseplate broke off and the brakes cracked. Salomon did repair them under warranty, but I ahd to wait a bit. Also I noticed the toepiece comes loose sometimes, and you have to tighten it down so your skis don't randomly fly off, which is irritating. They may have fixed this problem by now though. I know Volkl and Marker are also owned by the same company, so the Walls and Jesters would have more chance of being tested together, so may work a bit better, although I don't think that would be very significant.

If your riding mainly park id give another vote towards the z12's, so light, dont really think u need sth 16 for riding park but thats just me

I went from 1080 FOILS to Volkl Walls and I can tell you thet there isn't a huge difference....I would say they are equivalent in weight.

symmetrical

as far as the jester, i was going to jump all over them this year but after playing with them in the shop, im going to wait a year. i don't think everything they did was completely thought through. i have the 916s on a set of guns and love the binding. good adjustment and easy to work on.

i flexed them at my local shop, they seem pretty stiff. but for your hight and weight i'd go 177, 185 might be a tad long in the park

The I think about this, how much difference is there really between 177 and 185. Center mounted, that's only a 4cm difference at each tip. Doesn't seem like that shoudl make too much diffrence one way or the other... am I wrong? I always seem to get hung up dealing with what lenghts to buy...

Isn't weight what really matters though, not your height? At 175-180lbs I probably weigh more than your average 5'10" guy...

That's muscle, not fat, too.

im like 5'9 160, just bought volkl walls in 177 and they seem just a little too long. i think you would be alright with the same lenght.

the wall is a decent all mountain ski though? is there a huge gap in all mountain performance between the wall and bridge?
