Volkl Tigersharks in New England or not?

Hi,

I am fairly new to skiing, this is going to be my 4th season. I am

33, 5.7 180lb. I consider myself a good intermediate hoping to go to

advanced intermediate, not sure I will ever be an expert.

I am considering buying Volkl Tigersharks 10ft. Previously I

skied on Atomics Beta V 170s. I think I could handle something faster.

I am not sure if I should go with 168 or 161 to compensate for

speed and to be able to relax more, or maybe this is going to be too

much of a ski for me regardless of the lenght?

Any advise is greatly appreciated,

Thanks

those are the ones without that switch in the back right? cuz that just a stupid idea that will get broken and screw up the ski. i would get the 168 because it has a short turn radius. only heard good things about them

To be honest, you won't get a good response on this website. The majority of the kids that post on here are 14-19 and they might think they know what they are talking about, but they don't.

I have seen a man with Tigersharks in MA, so I would say that it would be worth it to pick up a pair. However, I would recommend going to your local shop and asking some people there, because you just won't get enough legitimate responses on here.

Gonna need a little more information than that on where you ski, what you ski, how often, etc.

The Tigershark is a great ski, but if you being honest about your ability level it might be a little too much for you. If you want to stick with Volkl try something like the AC20. One of the best things you could do though is visit a ski shop, get some advice there.

First of all, you're looking at a sick pair of sticks going with the TigerSharks 10ft, especially the power switch.

The 2 sizes you're looking at are really a question of personal preference. I would go ahead though and recommend the 161. Here's why. First off, the 168 can handle a very advanced skier at about 200+ pounds, no problem. You won't need that much ski for your specs. The construction is bomb-proof and trust me, before you can throw this off it's edge, it'll take a hell of alot of pressure and speed. Second, the radius of the 168 won't differ much from the 161. The power switch wont help the radius of the ski, but it will greatly help the re-load, so the loss of energy is minimal from edge to edge.

For your caliber of skiing, the 168 would just be overkill. The 161 will allow you to have a more versatile ride, alot more fun and lively, and you won't risk over-powering it in any way. Hope this helps.

hahah....

basically any race ski or similar is going to be great for EC skiing...you should probably talk to someone in a shop as well. if you'd classify yourself as an "intermediate" skier, tigersharks might be too unforgiving and too much ski for you..

dude, I hope you get them, they are soooo awesome. my pops has got a pair and they shred. Ive only ripped them GS status down groomers, but it felt like I was flying a fighter jet. The mirrored volant-esque graphics, once your used to it, is pretty awesome. You feel like you are riding on a UFO or a jet or something.

I would go with the 168. 161 is just too short. It will give you more stability.

Have fun!

judging by your stats i would recommend liberty BFF's, they're pretty rare but if you can get your hands on them it's the perfect ec groomer ski

i worked at a ski shop last year, and i was talking to the atomic rep about the tiger sharks, i was interested in them because they have alot of shit to them.....and form what ur syaing, i think it is too much ski for u, its much more of an expert ski, and not ppl that came in picked the ski up, becuase such a small variety of ppl could ski that particular model...
