Volkl Mantra

I haven't had the chance to ski the 191 Mantra, but everyone I talk to has said that the 191 was alot of ski. I'm 6'3" 185lbs and decided to go with the 184 upon talking to several reliable sources.

I'd looove to try the Sumo. What kind of flex does it have anyway. I have a pair of Prophet 130s and have wondered if the two will be similar??

Yeah the 2 are actually pretty similiar. I used the 184cm Mantra when we were testing them and I had a blast. I am 5'7, 180lbs. Skied everything well and was very impressed. Volkl wouldn't mount up a pair of the Sumo's for us though (no surprise there). The Prophet 130 is a pretty awesome ski, great for those epic weeks. The Sumo is shorter which is nice for guys that are looking for the Fattest ski they can take in the trees.

Tell you what. You get some Sumo's and I'll trade you for my 130s.

I have the feeling that it's going to be hard to get a pair, and even if I could, I am sure that it will quite expensive!! Something like a grand for a pair -- which is not worth it!

$1000 is retail, MAP is at 899 I believe. I know that is what the Sanouk is so I imagine that the Sumo would be the same. There are very few of this ski being made and I do not anticipate that the price will come down at least not until next fall.

No, I have worked there for about 8 years. I took a 2 year absence to run the Mammoth Mountain Ski Shop with Chop, just couldn't do the corporate America thing any more. It is nice to have control of what is ordered and not having to ask someone if your preseason order is alright. Not to mention try getting a raise or a bonus at a resort, they like to keep the money with the people that do the least. Not to mention many resorts higher people that have no idea about skiing or the industry. Some people did not even know how to fit shoes. Come on how hard is it to ask someones shoe size. One person that had worked their for 30 years did not know how to change a goggle lense. I just love to talk product with people all over the country and this job allows me to do it. Talk skiing everyday while still getting in about 70 days a year thanks to vacation time, night skiing, and having a boss that his main purpose is to go skiing with us as many days as possible. We all do everything from selling, mounting, and shipping.

well, until you guys said that, i was decided whether to go 1 or 2 back, but 1.5 sounds like a good compromise...good call

Yeah 1.5cm is the spot, talked to 12 guys now that have it mounted there and they love it. Only one guy I know had it mounted on the mark and that was because he was on the 191 and he was 5'10 so he already had enough tip and did not have to really worry about. It is amazing how well the ski handles when it is mounted back just that little bit.

the Mantra tail is slightly turned up...enough to ski backwards but not enough to really go switch (the Gotama is better for that)

191 vs 184

Sugarloafer....I'm still agonzing about moving up to the 191

6'1, 200 lbs

instead of mounting the 184's back 1.5 cm, why shouldn't I just do what your friend did and get the 191's and mount them on the line

it's only 3 inches difference in length between a 191 and a 194

is the stiffness of the ski that much harder to deal with in a 191?

I should probably demo a 191 early next season to be sure

Honestly, like you said the 191cm is not that much bigger of a ski and the flex is not a whole lot more than the 184cm. I love the 184 and I am 5'6", so the 191 and mounting it on the mark may be a great idea for you. If you can get out on the 191cm early season I would do it, you know there are not going to be many 191's left come December especially since there are no Explosivs out in the 190's.

I am going to get a pair opf Mantra's. I am about 99% sure I will go with the 184's because they will be my everyday ski and I don't want to deal with a 191 for everyday use. I'm 5'11'' and 175. Thanks for the info on the 1.5 dm back mount.

To love the times we have
To like what makes us sad
To live when others die
To lose and say goodbye
To last until our moment comes

No Problem, enjoy your Mantra's. I agree for everyday use for your height and everything you may like the 184cm better. It is a very versatile ski in the 184cm. If I was bigger and using it for pow days I would consider 191cm more.
