I'm from Calgary, and planning my first ever trip down the I-70 in February. I was curious as to where the best places to ski (so far I've got Vail and Breckenridge in mind), the best places to stay (so far the Dillon Super 8 is the cheapest), and the best places to drink (completely lost on this one), and a great restaurant in Aspen (to splurge on one night).

I appreciate any help, and in return can give the same sort of advice for Banff\Lake Louise if any of you are up this way.

if you're in dillon/silverthorne, the old chicago's (it's in one of the hotels) has $2.50 burger baskets and $2 drafts from 4-6 on weekdays.

I'm gonna get the 3 of 5 day Vail multi-day lift ticket, my choices or resorts are Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin.

So it sounds like Vail, Breckenridge, and Arapahoe Basin...

 
way better. A basin is old school. no fast lifts, but it is open till june and that is why it gets all the hype. keystone is killer

GO to silverton Mountain. If you can't go there sell your lift tickets to Breckenridge and Vail and buy Copper and Winterpark tickets. The snow is better and crowds smaller. Plus Vail's price for a damn lift ticket is redickless! (

 
Man you gotta come south. The snow is better. The terrain is better. The lift lines are shorter. The people are more low-key. Crested Butte, Silverton, Telluride, Wolf Creek.....are where it's at as far as skiing is concerned.

I have never been to Colorado so that is why I'm going there... I plan to retire in Tahoe though.

I'm also used to Banff/Lake Louise so I can't remember the last time I had to wait in line longer than 5 minutes, I guess it'd be the last time I was in Whistler.

Anyone know a really nice place to eat in Aspen? Not stupid expensive, but somewhat expensive is okay.

 
try grabing a sandwich from safeway. it is cheap and taste good

Definately check out breck's park. If you like to ski outside of the park, head over to abasin. There's a couple bars and clubs- mostly in breck and keystone- they don't have shit on denver clubs though.

dude as far as an I-70 trip...do all to avoid aspen seriously...and if ur looking for really good quality big mtn type skiing i would hit up A-basin,Loveland,Copper and Breck on week days...but loveland and a-basin ne time...if ur coming for parks and shit...Loveland has boosted theres quite a bit but so has all of colorado...Keystone has a nice setup but it doesnt flow like a slopestyle park...brecks is awesome...coppers can be...Winter parks will be awesome this year with the new rail setup there doing replicas of handrails all across the state..and will have amazing jumps this year..i would avoid vail...nice park sometimes but powder gets eaten up faster than turkey on thanksgiving

The back bowls of Vail seem to be worth a look, Keystone for A51, and Breck for both park/terrain...

 
Breck and keystone for the park, both a decent resorts for everyday skiing, A-basin if there is tons of snow, they have some sick runs, i dunno i like there, even if it is oldschool. and vail on a pow day cause there is just soo much terrian, and all the bowls are sick. . Loveland looks like it has some potentail if there lots of snow i only get to ride there in the April so there wasn't too much left. never been to cooper but pln to hit it up this year.

dude did u say cooper?? ha ya right i hope u meant copper...ne ways breck for terrain...gets stomped out really quick so u gotta hit it fast...the back bowls at vail get hit up super quick the closer u get to two elks lodge...the only really quality bowls r the sundown and the stuff off the outer mongolia bowls and that small poma lift...and bluesky basin gets hit up just as fast...i would highly consider beaver creek on a crazy powder day...its almost never crowded...deff check it out

Does anyone know if the BBQ rail at A51 is lit every night? Or is that something they save for filming?

 
They save it for filming. And I will strongly recommend for you to go to A-Basin over Keystone. Keystone's only worthwhile attribute is the park, the rest of the mountain is a waste. At A-Basin, you will get some quality terrrain for the entire day, just great moguls/steeps/trees. It's smallish but awesome. I'd actually say go to Keystone over Breckenridge for pure park experience, Keystone is more laid back and fun, plus Breckenridge is an overall awful mountain. And pretty much any restaraunt on the main stretch of Aspen has great food, there are some especially good Italian places there.

The Keystone stop is for the all-day park experience, and that's it. I've heard lots of good about Breck for both terrain and park, and the 'an overall awful mountain' seems a little harsh. And the bowls of Vail are famous, so I gotta go see what all the hype is about...

 
The bowls of vail arent that steep...and can be ridiculousy crazy on a powder day....cliffs r minimal...if you do any bowls do the outer mongolia bowls...you have to go thru a weird gate thing...as far as keystone...park is sweet and they have really really nice bowls and trees...breck is awesome park but the lower mtn is flat so head up to the top and trek up to the top of peak 8 or peak 7 and youll have a good time
