"Virtual Memory Low"***

I'm editing a vid of the season in sony vegas. its around 15 minutes long right now and windows keeps sending error messages that freeze it saying my "virtual memory is too low". I'm not running a lot of programs but i was just wondering what other people have done. I'm hesitant to mess with the memory settins in the windows properties. once it freezes it makes Vegas shut down? any one have this problem or know something to do to help out?

yeah, either delete shit of ur C: disk drive or get an external hard drive. i have 250 GB and its great. only like 100$

No! You guys are crackers.

As far as I know, the virtual memory error has to do with your RAM and not your ROM. Try opening up task manager (crt alt del) and end some programs you aren't using.

It should clear itself up then.

i had that too.

clear out your hard drive man, and you won't need to get an external.

most of the stuff on my comp was just scrap after a while anyway.

get more actual memory and you won't worry about virtual memory

i doubt your hard drive is so full that you have no room

yep, DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE, A NEW HARD DRIVE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING, NEITHER WILL DELETING FILES. You need more ram, but first pressing CTRL ALT DELETE and closing any processes you don't need running to free up some ram. If that isn't working you're going to need to buy a new stick of ram.

exactly, its not HD morons its VIRTUAL memory which is more RAM (Random Access Memory), get more RAM and you'll be good.

Actually virtual memory is HD. The computer looks for memory that is not currently being used and stores it in virtual memory on the hard drive, thus freeing space in you RAM. If you get more physical memory, you will reduce the need for your computer to use virtual memory, which is much slower than your RAM. There are also limitations on how much virtual memory you can effectively use. To solve these memory issues you should invest in more RAM.

*nice job expanding RAM into Random Access Memory to make yourself look smarter

Go to My computer. Right click on your hard drive (C:) , then go to Properties. (or the second you highlight your C drive it should show you how much free space you have in the status bar on the bottom).

If you have plenty of space free (several gigs?) then you know it has to do with your System Resources / Ram.

#1 I suggest checking for viruses/backdoors/trojans. I've dealt with a number of ones that'll tie up almost 100% of your system resources... if you've got one of those running on your computer, that would definitely be a problem.

Go to download.com and search for Security Task Manager . See what processes you have running in your memory. Try Quarenting suspiscious processes.. if you are not sure what something is just search it on google for a description.

#2 You could try tampering with how much space you have allocated for virutal memory.. but honestly that's rarely the cause of these problems. Your os usually sets aside more than enough.

#3 How much ram does your pc have? get some more!

are you fuckin kidding me? Look at yourself...

SICK!

not.

im goig to try chekcing for viruses, etc. i just didnt have time. I looked up changing the virtual memory for xp on google and got alot of info saying that you shouldnt mess with it to much but i did increase it a little to see if that helps.

if nothing works i guess i will just have to get some more RAM or just stick it out until i can get another computer.

does any one else have any thing more i could try. im desperate because its making this editing go 10x slower.

yes this is correct. You need to stop all the programs running in your background that are uneeded. You should probably get a spyware remover program also because you probably have a bunch

ding ding ding. hes got it.

im a design major, and alot of the software we use is very demanding. you pretty much need to be running a gig or 2 to keep the computer moving, so we are all very aware of this kinda technical problem. Virtual memory is temporary storage on the hard drive. clearing it up and changing the settings in the program that address how much virtual memory is used will HELP, and keep it from freezing, but more ram is what you really need. my guess is your on a desktop with about a half gig of ram, and you can easily snag a gig to go along with that for prolly 50 bucks or so (ii have a laptop, its more round 100 bucks there, so im not exactly sure what the cost are for a desktop tho). DO NOT bother with best buy or places like that. New egg.com, tigerdirect, and a couple others are much better and cheaper. very quick shipping as well. if you up your ram, youll be amazed at how much faster your comp renders your video files and processes the files. its one of the best, and cheapest upgrades you can do if your doing editing work.

chill out man. the worst way to take something like that is retalliating.

but if you want to free up memory just delte unused programs or old viedeos

you can change how much virtual memory your computer is using, if you go somewhere in control panel. all it is is the equivalent of ram on your hard drive, so i think you could maybe just get more ram.

I don't really know alot about the shit inside a computer. But I know I am getting the same message and my HD is almost full.

I've gotten that too, no way it's the hard drive. I have two hard drives; 40 gig and 200 gig, neither are full. I normally ignore it. :D

did you not notice how the picture you qouted is completely different from the one posted....weird

yeah that is strange.

he looks like a total douchebag in both pics anyway. no surprise there.

AGAIN, freeing up space on the HD will not do much. sure it will eileveate the msg, but it wont speed anything up. if you actually want it to speed up in processing videos, get some more ram. you will thank me, and its cheap, and super easy to install.

yeah im going to look into getting more RAM.

what do i do to install it though is it relitivley easy?

because i dont know much about messing around with the computer as far as parts go. That must be the problem because vegas always takes a little while to load all the settings and it includes the dvd studio in it so that program always loads and i end up closing it so that its not running also.
