Vinnie Gagnier's Run - Judges/Commentators are fucking up

Nah, you should probably shut the fuck up. He actually has a good point. Why don't you answer his question? ANTI-TRIPLES/COMPETITION is the whole Inspired/LaFa campaign, yet they support it when it's most convenient for them.

It's runs like these that keep me watching x-games/dew tour... And also if they're going to give a run like this a shitty score, at least do proper trick commentating on his run... Jeez.

Competition skiing is officially dead, originality means nothing and it's so sad. That run should have been in the high 70's at least.

No it was obviously a cork 7 because the guys commentating obviously know what they're talking about... That was ridiculous. "And the double with that grab, right spin." He just did a fucking double bio octograb and these guys don't even know what to call it.

That was fucked. Probably the most creative slope run I've ever watched. B-dog spit the truth and if this isn't better than another dub 12 mute then fuck comp skiing. Fucking ridiculous. But this is all "good for the sport" right? Big exposure, sure, but fuck that. FIS can kiss my (and gagnier's) ass.

I agree that he got jipped pretty hard by that score, but his only unnatural trick was that left 12 and it was pretty sketchy. Judges do like to see a variety of tricks, spinning both ways, even if all his natural spins were crazy-ass rotations.

He got robbed. But on another note, the judges said Henrik Harlot (Har-lot)istead of Harlout (Har-low) which I found entertaining.

Haha, did not notice that he did not make it. I was so stoked about that run! Style, tech and innovative! Shocking!

Why do you guys hate on other athletes runs? Thats not the point of this! Braaten killed it!

That was one of the most pathetic showings of judging I've ever witnessed in any sport.

Its judging like this that is forcing athletes to perform like robots in order to excel.

Get it together.

Looks like commentators and judges alike are chosen for how well they can add 180 rather than call the right type of flip

Spot on. It is a contest to see who can execute the more difficult trick better, not who can "STEEZ IT OUT THE MOST BRA". I definitely appreciate Vinni's rodeo 5 revert more than just about any other trick there. Thing was sick! But on paper it makes total sense that someone that does a lineup of higher risk tricks with more spinning, a perfectly executed grab, take off and landing gets a higher score. The judges know style better than most of the guys competing, check out who they are, but that isnt what they are scoring. You can't score a trick that only had 720 degrees of rotation with a single invert, sloppy grab, and less than perfect landing higher than a trick that had 1440 degrees of rotation, perfect grab, 2 inverts, and a stomped landing. That would be what is really stupid.

Go home Newschoolers, you're drunk!

yeah we should just make 1440's mandatory for every skier because it's hard to spin really fast.

seriously, you're fucking dull. I'm sick of seeing the same shit every year with some new random kid being able to stomp a dub 10 or dub 12 or dub 14 or whatever the fuck it will be next year.

give me some new shit. I want dope grabs and underflips and grabbed rodeos off of rails. if spinning your body quicker than the next guy makes you a better skier than the next guy in line, then fuck it. why try anything else in a comp besides trying to get that last 180 in so the judge thinks your trick is 'THAT MUCH DOPER BRAH'. Freeskiing came from originality and doing shit that others don't, and if people can't recognize it takes just as much talent to pull the moves Vinni Cash did, then fuck em.

Go watch gymnastics. Sounds like your type of sport. You like seeing people throw the exact same moves over and over with one more half rotation and a quarter inch less of movement in their feet to win a competition? Well goddamn, you could be the coach of the Chinese women's gymnast team. Because there is so much new shit going on in that sport and it's so fucking fun to follow year round with all the progression those 15 year old's are making for the sport.

It's a fucking competition. If there is going to be guidelines, then how about you give everyone a handbook that tells them what tricks to do and see who can do it best. Lets see how much you enjoy the Dew Tour then. Glad you appreciate the free part of freeskiing so much man.

You're a fucking idiot.

Vinnie threw one of the most tech runs ever. That 720 single invert (Nice aerials talk there bud)?

He throws a rodeo 5, and then REVERTS MID AIR. NO ONE DOES THAT EXCEPT VINNIE.

Right before that, Clean as fuck nose butter 270 to one foot slide. NO ONE DOES THAT IN COMPS EXCEPT VINNIE.

After, switch 12, no flips/inverts/cork. Pretty trickydicky, not much amplitude though.

Then you got this bad boy frontflip of the stupid boxes.

Then X SLIDE. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. NO ONE DOES THAT EXCEPT VINNIE.

Huge right 10 with the Octograb going on. Rowdy!

Finally, banger of bangers: DUB BIO 10 OCTOMOTHERFUCKINGGRAB.

I don't I have to say this but: NO ONE DOES THAT EXCEPT VINNIE!

He is the most creative skier on the comp scene, should have won Qualifiers.

Oh and Henrik slayed too, should have been 10-16th.

Right 7, commentator called it wrong. It's all in the left 12 landing, and frankly the 12 was super ugly and pencilled out.

Sickest run for watching purposes though, keep do your thing vinc.

Exactly this. This isn't fucken arials if I wanted to see who could spin the fastest I would be watching an arial completion. Its way sicker watching original tricks with sick style that are just as hard to do as a dub with a mute or other conventional tricks like that. Our sport was based of of originality and being free but considering in order to win you have to do the same tricks done by everyone else cause that's what the judges like is fucken stupid. That dub bio was crazy way more difficult then half the tricks other riders are doing. Some other runs are really sweet too but runs like Vinnie's stand out and are so sweet to watch and just as difficult

So you are telling me that the less difficult run should win? you are the piece of shit that cried when he didnt get a gold medal when he wasnt as good as everyone else. The most difficult tricks win! Thats what slopestyle COMPETITIONS are all about. I hated Goeppers run. It was too clean. Did he execute better than anyone else out there? Hell yea he did. Dope grabs, underflips, and grabbed rodeos off of rails? They were doing that shit 10 years ago man. That is old news. You and everyone else here is trying so hard to be the "anticomp" its fucking ridiculous. Competition skiing isnt for everyone. There are new tricks happening, going bigger, spinning faster, getting more stylish as things go on. If you choose to ignore that, you are just another jackass that refuses to accept change. Vinnis stuff is nothing new. Neither is Casabons. or Delormes. They have been doing it for years. same with a bunch of other guys. They are damn good skiers that dont fit well in the comp world because they are more focused on style than technicality. Thats awesome. I like that better too. But heres the kicker: Underflips arent hard rotations. Neither are rodeo 5 reverts. Jump on a tramp for a week and you will figure that out. The judges know this shit better than anyone on here ever will. Have fun with your skinny skis, camber, and 360s, things are still changing in the ski world.

To the people criticizing Vinni for not spinning to win:

Vincent Gagnier Season Edit 2013 from GSL Productions on Vimeo.

It's not like he's not capable. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Vinni will stomp a triple this season. He's just broader then the average comp skier though, and that was clearly shown today with his run.

Alright bro. I'm sure the next 1980 is going to blow your fucking pants off your legs from all the jizz Alex Schlopy and Nick Goepper just pumped out of your testes with his extra partial body twist, after all those months of hard practice on the tramp spinning his hips like he's the next Michelle Kwan, going for the gold medal.

That shit is going to change it. That's going to be the next pantychanger in the ski world that everyone is so excited about that someone figured out how to turn that half rotation and made me rethink the possibilities of what freeskiing has to offer. THE POSSIBILITIES THAT THE EXTRA 180 DEGREES HAS TO OFFER

Oh wait, they are going for that extra half body twist going for the gold medal just like Michelle Kwan.

I mean... Lol. Anyways, BskiP, post up a video of someone else doing the rodeo 5 pretz 1.

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not.

I honestly can't stand tramp edits for the life of me. I enjoy skiing. Skiing. Watching kids on trampolines is kind of like being the 10 year old kid at his friends house standing in the yard and being yelled at 'Watch Me Do This Backflip'. Cool. Cool. If I wanted to watch good kids on trampolines, once again, I'd watch gymnastics. I enjoy freeskiing.

I understand that fucking around on trampolines is a part of learning how to be better in the park, but does it require an edit? Maybe if you're lucky, you'll be the next chosen as a representative of the trampoline team for the 2016 Olympics. I hear their team is the most poppin shit since teenage zits.

I can't do any of this shit. Yeah, I can't. I'm a skier and I ski in west-bumblefuck-forest and I love it, but my favorite thing to watch is park. I want shit that blows my mind. If you're gonna be posting a video of you on a trampoline in August, you better be fucking a girl upside down doing a cork 7 to catch my attention. Baseball players don't post up videos of them fielding groundballs during practice. Chris Johnson doesn't make edits of himself juking people out at football practice and posting them up. Shaun White doesn't have videos out of him practicing his cockstroke to the frequency of Sal Masekala's voice.

And hell yeah show me someone doing a rodeo 5 pretz 1. I would love to see a video of anyone doing that

Dew tour...give him a wildcard into finals!

I think what hurt him was that of jumps/rails he spun on 5 were to the right and only the sw 12 was to the left. But i think id rather see that than a mirror image run of L-dub mute 10 to R-dub mute 10...

One of the only runs that was actually interesting. Rails in the middle were a little soft compared to everything else. I think the judges we're probably just confused at how different his tricks were. It really sucks that the judges are showing how they will be running things this year. Not too hyped on the standard that was just set from this event.

No one noticed his grab on that sw 7..? Grabbing truckdriver while skis crossed, or whatever double mute grabbing both skis that was. crazy.

dayum.

I know those dudes calling it have always been a bit outa touch with the real....

but fukkin a man.. the first trick (ungrabbed?) shoulda won the comp (270 nsbuta bs?) r u retareded vince? that's not supposed to happen!)

comps b comps. don't let that garbage guide your skiing.

Even if i'm really pissed that he scored much lower than he should of have, Vinnie's still the most innovative skier out here, I mean look at those fucking pretzels, octograbs, x-slides...And when it comes to future spins he can stomp them too, I actually think he has the sickest looking dubs (look at that season edit above)

So he could have easily sent even bigger tricks to get a better score (cos sadly thats kinda how it works) but it's fucking awesome that he prefers to do some real steezy shit. Maybe one day dew tour will forget about the $$ a bit and realise that it's freestyle not freespintowinwgafboutsteeze

On another note, dub bio 7 should have won him at least 25 more points...that trick is so fucking hard, like how does it even work??? Commentator didn't realise it was a bio lol

I think the main problems is that style is so subjective. There's no way the judges can be consistent over an entire field of different styles but its easy to see that skier A landed better and did an extra 180 than person B. Can't really blame the riders, clearly all these guys want to win because its how they make a living so they're gonna take advantage of that and prioratise perfect dubs over individuality. Vinnie took a chance and got unlucky, good on him though.

saying that, i think competition skiing progresses the sport faster than any other medium; just look how much weapons technology improves during wars, same idea.

Boy oh boy I can't wait for the Olympics now!! Seriously if they judge like this our sports in for some trouble.

I don't watch comp runs because they are all pretty boring and look the exact same to me. That said, that was one of the funnest and most entertaining runs I have ever seen. How much better would comps be if skiiers had completely different runs showcasing their own creativity and style and not just rehashing the "hot trick" of Year 20XX.

Are you seriously saying Vinnies run was less difficult than any other? Sure he spun less, but that scissor grab thing, butter to locked in backslide, plus the mute over the rainbow, and frontflip tail out of a box, AND the switch 5 REVERT IN MID AIR and a dub 10 bio octograb are less difficult? You should take a basic physics class or something, that might set your head straight.

And double post, but I spent 6 months jumping on gymnastics trampolines, learned some dubs but never took them to snow because yeah, I'm a fucking pussy. But once you set it's just momentum from the pent up potential energy turning kinetic and it carry's you around. But changing your rotation mid air? That literally goes against all that, and requires amazing air awareness as well as strength. Have fun with your short skis and "flippytrippletwists".

The commentators are sitting in proximity to the judges, that's what you're hearing.

As for this thread, well, there's always one they fuck up. I liked a lot of what VG did on that run, particularly the first and last jumps. But I really don't like one footers. I'm still torn on that particular one because it was kind of fucked that he butters into it although the angle isn't good enough to really see it. He pencilled out at the end of the second jump.

My suspicion is that the judges were kind of ambivalent about the mute grab on the rainbow and mistakenly thought the first jump was a screw up. That's really the only explanation I've got.

By the way, for the people giving backlash about Henshaw, Goepper, Joss's runs, etc, no one is saying Vinnie should have been ahead of them, just that he should have made finals. And he should have, if only because it would have been fun to see what he'd do.

We are living in a world where a dub 12 mute beats dub bio 12 octo in competition. I think we need to boycott AFP until the judges can get their shit straight.
