Vimeo introducing a new feature- 'Tip Jar'

Damn, that's sick!

I need to get plus, I guess this will inspire me to (and then add more stuff to my account...)

saw this earlier today. I think it's a pretty cool idea, but I'm guessing that the majority of people aren't going to receive many "tips"

the one thing I was really surprised about when I upgraded is that there isn't an "unlisted" option for videos. You either need to make it private with a password or public, seems like a really basic feature that they should have

perhaps it's just a Vimeo PLUS feature...but under the 'Privacy' settings, there is an option for 'Hide this video from Vimeo.com'. This option is if "I want to post this video on the web but don't want it to be available on Vimeo.com. (This will hide your video on Vimeo.com and remove it from public Albums, Channels, and Groups.)"

Is this what you mean?

yeah, I have plus. But when you try and link people to a video you choose to "hide from vimeo", they aren't able to watch it

its for like using their player/embed on your site, but with no redirect when you click the title

Why is that funny?

Being a videographer doesn't mean you have to be ignorant of tools and tricks to make a better image. DoF is a very powerful way of making an image that much better, whether it be shallow or extreme depth of field.

As much as it is a hype to bash shallow DoF nowadays, DoF doesn't mean it has to be shallow.

The tip jar seems like a good idea, and I think it would be great for aspiring film makers.

But I noticed something at the end - pay to watch? That seems like it may take away from Vimeo, and turn it into something expensive...

I agree that the pay to watch feature will be extremely overused but could be good once in a while for people who make full production movies and post them on vimeo

Are you kidding me? Dude shut the fuck up. It was blatantly a joke by vimeo. Anyone who says "awesome depth of field" is probably commenting on SHALLOW DOF and have no idea what theyre talking about, they just think it looks cool. Why are you being such a cock? lay off.

Maybe I mistook genuine replies for 'haha, such noobs' mistakes, but I've just been seeing so much negativity going on around here and it honestly just sucks. The balance 'Oh my god, that was so sick' comments vs: that's shit, learn to shoot etc. etc. is just very crooked.

dub post...but if a video is bad, no one is going to say "oh my god, that was so sick." if everyone was like that, then no one would get anywhere with their videography/photography. i would rather have more negative comments to know what i need to work on rather than a bunch of people say oh thats cool when really there are spots that need work.

recently you are the most negative poster i have encountered, you should get the last few grains of sand out of your vagina and save them in a bottle to remind yourself of this overly productive period of your internet career

Recently would be the 6D thread and that thread only?

That was totally justified. The 6D is a great camera and it's ridiculous that as soon as the word 'Canon' drops in combination with something camera, video or visual related everybody starts flaming Canon for being a shit company, while the opposite is true.

Just pay attention to what I said in my last post; there's so many unnecesary negative posts out there. It's stupid.

nope literally every mention of canon has you hiking up your britches and pulling out your cock to blast away at anyone who has anything to say about canon.

How did you even manage to make an argument out of this thread...

I'll rest my case, because this is going nowhere. It's just stupid that people seem so negative. It thought M&A was different than NSG, apparently not; I know this is the internet, but nevertheless I'd hope for a little more positivism.

In this case, instead of commenting on how good a system the Tip Jar is or how good it may turn out to be, people don't even mention it and are just saying irrelevant stuff about the comments.

OT: I think it's a super good idea. Vimeo might be onto something here; if they execute it right, this has real potential; especially for indie filmmakers. Can't wait how it turns out and see if it's actually going to work!

HAHA are you fucking kidding me? You're the one getting so fucking angry at everyone. If we wanna hate on canon, were going to. get the fuck over it and stop bitching.

look who started the shit fest in this thread...... it was you

there was light joking about a humorous comment and then you come in with your panties all wedged up and started crying about heath being a big meany

I like how everyone hated on Tijmen for a comment. Better yet, when he defended himself, everyone said he was the hater and was the one ruining the thread, when literally 4 of you ganged up on him....

FWIW, I agree with him. The arguments that he's made have valid points to them, and 90% of the people in M&A tend to regurgitate opinions that are posted earlier by those with more "presence." He happens to have a different opinion than a few of you, which is great. If both sides of any topic can be represented, be it on a new camera, a photo, a video, certain theory, or technique, then the two sides can bounce their thoughts back and fourth. This is called discussion! It's what forums are supposed to be based around!

Sure you can have a cynical view on things, and maybe asking for everyone to be positive is a stretch, but there's no need to hate because their view is different. We're all guilty of it, and lets try to tone it down. Many of you guys have a great wealth of knowledge regarding the arts of photo and video, lets promote that and share it with those that lurk to learn.

And sorry Evan, I hate to do this, but really? I think this is you being the angry one. (I dare you to log in and reply to this before monday HAHAHAH)

"HAHA are you fucking kidding me? You're the one getting so fucking angry at everyone. If we wanna hate on canon, were going to. get the fuck over it and stop bitching."

I completely agree with this. The way I read his comments were very rational and made sense to me. Then a certain few members who I always see posting something and then defending their opinions like they are the god of film making or some shit and anyone who dares question them is ignorant and a hater. I dunno I guess I just think people should say what they want to say and not get flack for it unless its actually insulting or ill intended.
