whoever decided to start worshiping the bible anyway? how do they know if it is correct or not, its been around for thousands of years so the message is probably completly distorted and unreal.

also has anyone actually ever sat down and read some passages out of the old testament? it's riduclous. in the old testament, God is made out to be ruthless and unforgiving, obviously not much of a God that anyone would want to worship.

i think the bible iteself is completly obsolite. people should choose to believe in God the way they see him instead of a 4000 year old document that's probably untrue anyway.

Apparently none of you have ever seen a religious person being controlled by the holy spirit. I would never believe it either, but when you see people speaking in tongues and the joy that they get you begin to believe that there is something out there. Now the next question is which branch of Christianity are you willing to believe in. I don't even know why you would want to discuss this on here with all of the 15 year olds who have no clue about life, politics or religion.

yeah I was born baptist raised baptist so we have sort of a lose belief but it is belief none the less. I thinks it's straight if you believe in something but I think that it crosses the line when you get cult followings sort of like the opus dei, who are way too fanatical in their catholic beliefs. but what does everyone think?

cmon man, there has to be some form of life after this, like what happens when we die, do we die and that's it? i don't think so. God is out there man, you just have to find him (or her, depending how you view God). i already stated that i think the bible is bogus, but i beileve in an afterlife, there's definatly something after we die, i can feel it.

ohh yeah also the thing about the Jewish slaves. I find weird how the only place where it mentions jews being slaves in Egypt is in the Bible. there are no Egyptian records of this ( which many say is because they were too ashamed to record it) which might be true. but I wont beleive this until at least 1 piece of archeological evidence is unveilled proving that jewish people were at one point enprisonned in Egypt.

also, i have read a fair amount of the old testiment becuase while im really pretty non-religious, i do like to talk about my religion in my youthgroup (i think many of us are this way) im jewish and the tora is the old testiment/ I wouldn't say that god is made out to be ruthless. when we study it, we have like 5 different translations. you cant rely on just one.

WEll I think that you have to take into account that the bible was written not by god but by other people told by god what to write. I don't worship the bible I just take it as the word of god, thats all. I am not one of the ott evangelist trying to convert everyone causeI know you all have something that you believe in, and I think it's cool and also respect that. Steeze patrol I think you were way out of line saying that only little kids believe in this shit, and that my parents forced me into religion, because that is not true in my case anyway. I find my religion as sort of a foundation that I know will support me whenever I need it. I know that sounds gay but it is true. I also do belive in evolution, but in a different way. I believe that god created the world universe etc. But I think that he may have created simple life forms which may have evolved into the things we are and that surround us today. This is a good thought provoking discussion let's keep it up.

First of all I don't really beleive in much religion. I think buddism is good, and the original words of jesus was whats good, but the church has warped it entirely.

Let me tell you something first that might hint something is wrong with church. Jesus was a black man. He had dark skin, much like a modern day muslim.

I think its heinus to beleive there is a thinking entity living above our heads making all our decisions for us that we should sacrifice ourselves to.

What I do beleive is that there is a total system of checks and balances which make up nature. That is pricicely what all organisms live off and have in every second and every aspect of your life. Balances.

Look all around you, you see people who get really good grades, they have no social life, that is a balance. You see jocks who are really athletic with little mental capacity. Its all about balance.

Im not sure that many people "worship the bible", people worship God, and use the bible as a guidebook on how to honour God when living their lives. If people worship the bible then i think they've lost the point of christianity.

 
i dont think people should be taking it litteraly when it has been translated. in the translation some word have had their meanings changed(not on purpose but some words can be translated differnt ways)

I really can't say what i exactly beleive, i was raised roman catholic, but right now i dont practice and consider myself agnositic. I think the possibility of a higher power is possible, but if there is one I dont think that things like the bible and religious groups have got the right idea. Whether jesus was really the son of god or any of the stories are true ect, ect, who can say? But what is very likely is that he was a person that preached for peace tolerance and goodwill towards all people, but despite that his words have been twisted and used to justify things like hate, war, and control. For this very reason I am against oganized religion. All interpritations have been twisted or take the bible (which contradicts itself about every 2 pages) way to literally. I think the only time that christianity may have been pure, was when its followers had no power or status and were persecuted

I am a christian, but I have major issues with people who take the bible 100% literally. It was written in metaphores and many of the stories are parables that are not to be taken literally, but instead used to understand the overall message. If you say "train of thought", it doesn't mean that you got on a train and then started having a fluid order of thoughts. It is the same way with the bible. Fundamentalism is what is ruining this world, it doesn't matter if you are protestant, catholic, muslim, whatever, it is the fundamentalists who are ruining everything. There is a trend in recent history with televangelists and nondenominational preachers, speakers, and writters sweeping people's emotions. These people are operating outside the boundaries of uniform doctrine and pushing their extreme views on other people. They preach the opinion of men, not the truth of God.
