I do not own a viewfinder. From what I hear, they are really used to block out external light so you can set your exposure and colors correctly. If thats what you want it for, then magic lantern would be a better and cheaper fix. You can use the histogram/waveform monitor, along with the zebras.

I have a LCDVF for my 5D and alway use it. I love it. Helps for blocking light, shot composition (2.5x), focus, and keeping the camera more stable if being hand held.

i got a seagull viewfinder ( a zacuto zfinder pro knock off) to use with a zacuto evf. I haven't purchased the EVF yet, but i'll say that probably will be getting one in the near future. the dot pitch on the back of the screen of my 5d at 3x magnification is just too spaced out, and the resolution isn't that great for pulling focus without the zoom feature that the cameras have.

i thought about the same thing however its pretty simple..i got one for cheap, maybe 50 dollars, and the quality of the magnification is terrible, so when im using manual I can't even see when its actually in focus..spend the extra dough and get a legit one, a crappy one isnt worth it

I like using it if im filming in the light, it helps me see the screen without having to turn up brightness.
