I have a hi8 camera, and i was wondering, is there any way i can get the video onto my computer? i know absolutely nothing about these things.

 
only way to get it would be with a capture card that captures through USB which are decently cheap ($100 and less) and come with software and such but not the best quality or you can get a transcoder which takes the video and audio signals and transcodes them into DV25 signal which then goes through firewire but are more expensive ($250 plus where you might as well bag the idea and just buy a digital vid camera)

 
If you have a friend with a digital 8 camera your tape should play in there and you can transfer it by firewire, but like the dude above me said it will probably be worth it after that to get a digi, especially miniDV.

jus buy a onverter, like 50 bucks or something...but you need some editing software to actually have a purpose of putting it on your computer

 
hes probably means the dazzle video USB capture ones which i low quality and not that great, the guy above me is right, a good converter is 250-300 bucks so you might as well just buy a cheap dv camcorder
