Video onto computer

I didnt feel like waiting an hour for a response so i'll post my thread right huur,i have had this cheap samsung video camera bought of off ebay for a while and have still not been able to put footage onto my computer for editing. how does one do this? (i did do a search on this first, nothing came up)

 
u need a video program first of all..but ull probly need like a usb or firewire to hook up ur cam directly to ur comp
 
ja i have . . but sofar whenever i plug it into the USB i am only alowed to recorde video straight onto the computer, not put existing video on.
