Yeah, I believe I learned from Mythbusters that in 14 seconds a human hit terminal velocity (140 mph area) and they cannot accelerate anymore. I'm almost positive what I just said was incorrect because it most likely depends on how you are falling.
 
very true, but it almost seems fake how they perfectly missed him the entire time he was in the air.
 
"terrible shot what a fag" - Guess what, it was his warm-up run for the day, and not only that but as said many times in this thread he skied the wrong line, why the fuck would you have the perfect angels for that?

"not a record its just stupidity" - Former record holder was Jamie Pierre, starting his ski run 10 feet from the cliff drop, skiing with a speed around 5mph? and then landing on his head. Compared to Fred who skied a really good line with good speed.

I don't understand the hate on Fred(the skier), isn't he known enough or what is it that make this more stupid and not a cliff record compared to Jamie's utter stupidity?
 
well the thing is, jamie KNEW what he was doing, he took the BALLS to do that massive fucking cliff and did it. cliff's are really just about balls it doesnt take ANY skill whatsoever (really big ones). This guy didnt even mean to drop that cliff it just happened because his lack of preparation, he required no balls to do it, anyone here on newschoolers could have done that cliff, they'd just have to be stupid enough to miss there entire fucking line and go off a near 300 ft cliff.

Youre saying it took no balls to realize that he had missed his line and find a way off of 300 hundred foot cliff that wouldnt kill him? You have got to be shitting me, he was fucking looking at death right there. Sure missing his line was stupid, but youre fucking kidding yourself if you think every big mountain pro hasnt done the same. It looks a lot different from the top. Not only that, but he had the peace of mind to control himself in the air and land in a position that would hopefully not kill him. Off of a 300 hundred foot, unscoped cliff! I dont doubt for a second he made the right decision at the time, at the speed he was going theres no way he could just stop without rolling off the cliff(death) or try to hit it a little further down (even shittier cliff). Glad your keyboard warrior shittalking is doing well for you, but you are a fucking idiot~

Point is, not killing yourself under those conditions is a fucking intense skill~
 
I am pretty sure he said in an interview that once he realized he was in the wrong spot and that there was no way to stop before the cliff that he knew he had to just go for it.
 
Even though this guy didn't intend to launch the massive cliff I don't understand why something like this shouldn't count for the new record. This guy stuck his landing just as much if not cleaner than Pierre (obviously from the shitty video no one can really tell how he landed). He looks totally in control when he leaves the lip. I think because he had SO much speed going into it that it might have actually helped his form in the air, he was more like a falling rock than a falling piece of paper (like Pierre). Regardless I think this is going to change the future of Massive cliff drops. I mean sure he didn't ski away, but obviously you cannot physically ski away from something like that. Fred's drop should be counted. The line he skis before is fucking badass! Even though the camera guy missed the actual drop the footage is insane. I must have watched it 20-30 times last night. Also like Scott said, Fred realized he was in the wrong place right before he launched it and realized he just had to point it. Fucking badass. You can tell when he leaves the air that's exactly what hes doing, hoping to live but in complete control.
 
Damn, that was badass. He was certainly in complete control when he went off and knew what he was doing. Should certainly count as the record but if he doesn't want it too then more respect to him...

Think just after he went off the cameraman was saying to the pilot something along the lines of "Go left, Go left" no doubt to try and see what happened.
 
A records a record and Fred definately dropped it. Hard to believe, but it seems to be true. That was a huge line and he linked it together well. Not sure why he wanted to traverse above such big cliff in the first place. He must have just gotten stuck in a chute after he dropped too low on his line. As for comparison of style, going off at mach speed, he had a perfect huck form and seemed to more or less stick the landing correctly on his back. Pierre's was on his head, which under no terms counts as landing. A translation would be great, I think it is a scandinavian language, maybe norwegian. The heli pilot if french and as fred drops the cliff, he says "go left, go left. Oh no, he is lost."
 
shit mad respect for dude, i read in an article dude saw what was happening at the last minute and made the decision to charge the cliff rather than try to stop and maybe end up in the rocks, thats some balls for a split second thing like that.
 
i don't know exactly how far you have to fall to reach terminal velocity, but with the long fat skis and big jackets to create more friction it would take a person longer to reach with ski gear on then without...
I've always been a firm believer that we can jump from a airplane way up in the sky and ski away from it, just as long as the snow is steep and deep. I mean, look at all the cases of people surviving falls after their parachute doesn't open.
 
I can't believe some of you are hating on him for this. Who cares if dropping huge cliffs doesn't take huge amounts of skill? It's still burly as fuck, and it was an ACCIDENT.

to do what fed did takes balls. alot of them. it takes balls and skill to not land on your head like jamie off a cliff that big. and yeah right, most people on newschoolers could not do something like that. i would bet that almost anyone on newschoolers would die in a situation like that. its not stupid either to miss a line. if you have ever skied big mountain lines you would know that it is pretty easy to get lost of where you are in the line. i have done before, when you are in a big line like that it becomes really hard to know excatly where you are if you are in unfamiler terrien. what fred did i would just call it a simple mistake. not stupid.

How did he not "EARN" that shit? really man, lay it out for me. Because I fail to see how a legit big mountain ripper, who has sent massive drops (intentionally) in the past "didn't earn that shit". Since your obviously unable to read anything about this event, other than what is posted in this thread I am going to lay a few things out for you.

1. this guy is legit

2. he missed his line, but realized what was going on so he just sent it, and had the ability adjust his landing so he didnt die.

3. He was going way faster than Piere at take off, thus legitimately skiing, unlike Piere who jumped at low speed, with a short run in

4. Piere laneded on his head .. by accident .. this guy salvaged himself by having the skill to land on his side, and distribute his impact.

5. He did it without the help of Jesus.

so just stop posting, you havent "earned" the right to continue to dumb down this thread.

Back to the stoke .... 350ft .... AWSOME!

 
yeah i agree. it goes both ways also. if you were trying to 9, and landed a 7, you dont get anymore credic than somone who did 7. same wiht cliffs. claiming it or not, if you do a 9, or drop a 20, thats what you did! thats is waht happended. end of story. Fred droped a 107meter cliff. end of story, he deserves all the props

dude no thats false if you read (there was an article about it, i dont remember which mag) he says he realized before he took the cliff where he was so he decided to jump it rather than fall down it, which takes wayy more balls and probably saved his life. most people, definately myself included, would have tried as hard as possible to stop before the cliff, where instead he hucked it. so in a way, he did mean to do it.
 
God you come across like such an idiot, and a post like this proves you've never skied off anything remotely big in your life. The fact that he was able to quickly assess the situation and remain calm in the air (look how clean he looks as he realizes he is about to drop 350 feet without planning on it). Imagine the balls and concentration a decision like that takes (he talks about it in the interview a few months ago). No flailing around like Pierre. If you'd ever skied off anything that you were not totally confident/comfortable with you'd know how impressive this is.
 
D.Ujjainwalla are you skiing in Whistler this year? I see your profile says Tremblant/Whistler. Is it your first season out west? I want to know when I can see you launch air jordan from the top this season since you are so rad at skiing.
