Video logo overlay help +k

so im trying to find a way, or program to add an logo to the start of my video so that you can see stuff moving behind it but it isnt a box. i have seen it a lot, i dont want font or just to lay a watermark i want it to be like an icon, which ive already tried.example level one logo with video behind it

As far as i know it has to be a .psd file with layers selected when exporting from photoshop, not very sure though...
 
maybe make the fonts opacity to 0 and add a really big and feathered outline most editing programs will do that
 
make the logo as png like others are saying with a transparent background or if its a white or black background behind the logo you can (*in FCP 7 anyway) right click on the track that the logo is in and change the blending mode to lighten or darken and it will get rid of the black or white background
