Video editing that won't break the bank

I've started to edit a little bit and i enjoy it and i want to get better. I'm stuck with WMM which works alright but there is no variety in efffects and the color variations are muy homo. I used the search bar and people were asking the same question. Avi and premiere cost a little more than I can afford at the moment. I'm asking whether anyone knows of any video editing softwares that are somewhere between WMM and the crazy expensive programs. Any help would be cool.
 
If he is using WINDOWS movie maker, meaning he has a PC. So FCE wouldn't work for him. Plus why pay 200 bones for something that is easily gotten for torrents.
Now the best editing software for a PC is adobe premiere. But if you only used WMM I would suggest something a little less complicated... unfortunately i cant recommend anything for a PC since I use a Mac. Although I believe vegas is a decent mid level software.
 
I use Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 and Adobe After Effects (I believe) and they work perfectly fine. Both torrent dl ofcourse. And they both work perfectly

I have fce and I absolutely love it. best 200 ive put toward editing
 
for you because you have a pc and what not, i would suggest Sony Vegas 9 Platinum, its great for the intermediate editor and has great features that are easy to use and figure out.
